Office Hours: Monday Thursday: 9.00am-4.00pm; Friday: 9.00am 12.00pm Local Business Community Supports WNC Christmas Appeal Volunteers were busy pre Christmas packing hampers with food & toys which were kindly donated by local business Keep It Simple Super, Wyong TAFE library, Inner Wheel Wyong & Leanne (pictured) & staff of Dept of Human Services (Central Coast Smart Centre) at Tuggerah. Over 40 hampers went out to clients doing it a bit tough at this time of year. Our last hamper was given to a very emotional client who was ever so grateful. There wasn't a dry eye in the office! Christmas is a time for giving & our wonderful caring community certainly did just that! Art On The Hill Newcastle Permanent Art Cart Our new Mobile Art Cart has arrived & looking very smart! The art cart will allow the very popular Art on the Hill program to support even more disadvantaged families and young children in the Wyong region. This program run by the WNC provides a diverse range of arts and cultural activities to isolated, disadvantaged and remote communities throughout the Central Coast. EMPOWERING AND CONNECTING PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY Electricity and Gas Bill Assistance The Federal Government provides WNC with EAPA vouchers to assist people who are in a crisis and cannot make full or part payments on their electricity or gas account. Appointments for this service are compulsory and proof of identification and the original electricity bill must be viewed. Coast Care Counselling Personal and relationship counselling is available with a professional counsellor at an affordable rate. A counsellor is available at the centre on a Wednesday for a consultation. Costs for this service will depend on your financial circumstances. Bookings essential please call the centre on Financial Counselling Wyong Neighbourhood Centre Inc. offers free financial counselling for people in our community we can also assist you with your tax returns. See Tax Help Justice Of The Peace A Justice of the Peace service is available to witness and certify documents at WNC. Call to make an appointment. Tuesday Discussion Group This friendly group meets every Tuesday in the school term, 10am 12 noon. $4.00 a session (includes refreshments). Wyong Men s Shed An interim space for the Men s Shed at The House with No Steps Tuggerah Business Park has commenced and the gentlemen are busy working on projects. If you would like to be involved please contact Kim Hopkins on Community Garden Our garden is open every day for our community. If you would like to volunteer or be involved please call Jane on for more information. Op Shop Open Monday to Thursday 9.30am pm located in Room 3 and run by friendly volunteers. All adult clothing is from $2.00. Children s from $1 Room Hire We have many rooms for hire here at WNC available for community use. Telephone for an inspection or booking. Early Intervention Centre The Iris Foundation is focused on the prevention of suicide. 3 Art on The Hill Please contact Jane if you would like to get involved in projects for the local arts community. Telephone: Problem Gambling Counselling We have a problem gambling counsellor at our centre two days per week. Please telephone to make an appointment. This is a free service. Legal Aid Family Law Every second Wednesday a Legal Aid solicitor is in the centre offering basic advice regarding family law. If you require assistance with a family law matter (divorce, separation, property settlement, child custody), please contact reception for an appointment on Youth Support Service Every Friday from 9.00am 12.00pm Phoenix Youth Support Service is available here at WNC offering free support, information, advice, referral and mentoring for year olds. Please telephone Chris or Val on for an appointment, or drop in for a chat. Food Bank and Second Bite Program Food assistance is available at our centre every weekday by way of bread, fruit, vegetables and non-perishable foods. 4 From The Desk Of ThE President.. Happy New Year! We hope that 2015 will be a very memorable and exciting year for all of our friends, sponsors and supporters. Over the past 3 years I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this diverse and very busy organisation. We have a dedicated group of staff members as well as a large contingent of very helpful volunteers - all working together to keep Wyong Neighbourhood Centre operating as a vital hub for the Wyong Shire community. In the last 12 months Wyong Neighbourhood Centre expanded into the Djarwon building enabling Jodi Morgan and her staff could have some much needed space for the numerous projects and services offered at our Centre. We have also expanded our Community Development and Garden projects which include the Aquaponic garden, new outdoor kitchen, the new orchard and the edible garden that has been planted. Throughout the coming year we look forward to holding workshops in the outdoor kitchen using our newly built pizza oven and BBQ. - We have 3 hard working Financial Counsellors who are instrumental in helping Wyong Shire families budget and manage their finances. Our 3 Justices of the Peace are available Monday to Thursday as well as a Legal Aid solicitor two Wednesdays a month. We also offer Computer courses for Seniors. Wow we ve certainly grown in the last 12 months!! All of these expansions have meant an increase in volunteers needed for 3 reception areas, gardening, the Op shop, and at the Watanobbi Centre. This is in addition to the volunteers we already have in the main building who operate the Emergency Food and Emergency Power Bill programs etc. Without the loyalty and hard work of our dedicated team of volunteers a number of the projects and activities we facilitate would not be able to take place. Their contribution to our Centre is invaluable and much appreciated. We are always looking for more volunteers, especially to assist maintain our gardens and grounds. 5 Watanobbi Community Centre COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BY WNC IN WATANOBBI REFERRAL, INFORMATION AND ADVICE Drop in between 9.30am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday. We offer information, referral and other resources to the local community with quick, easy access to printed information, or access to information online. We assist you to connect with appropriate services, community supports and informal social networks. We actively help with referrals to other organisations by supporting people to make phone calls, send fax messages and discuss difficulties. KIDS CLUB Junior group (6-8 year olds) Monday 3.00pm-5.00pm Senior group (9-11 year olds) Wednesday 3.00pm-5.00pm Kids Club is a great afternoon with craft, afternoon tea and energetic games. Your children are entertained with new skills and healthy exercise. Cost: $3.00 (child) or $4.00 (family) ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE A Justice of the Peace is available at Watanobbi by appointment. Call WATANOBBI WALKERS Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9am 10am. Our Heart Foundation walking program is a free community event. Newcomers always welcome. YOUTH SUPPORT SERVICE Every Tuesday from 2.00pm 4.00pm Phoenix Youth Support Service outreach is at Watanobbi. If you are aged and would like to develop skills that will help access education, employment and identify and reach personal goals, please telephone Chris or Val on for an appointment, or drop in for a chat. 6 COFFEE AND CHAT GROUP Mondays pm This group focuses on a positive lifestyle for women. We emphasise relaxation, socialisation, support and fun in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, striving to gain enjoyment, promoting wellness, self esteem and a positive future. Weekly Activities Include Craft, guest speakers, motivational workshops and book club. Cost is $3.00 per week (includes morning tea). Watanobbi Community Centre Watanobbi Rugrats On here every Monday during school term for children 0-5 years. $3 per family.
