Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a herbaceous plant, belonging to the Gingiberaceae family, whose root or rhizome is perennial, annualy sprouting stems from it reaching heights up to one meter. The plant is cultivated in tropical areas of Asia. The leaves are lanceolate-shaped giving off a pleasant aroma; the flowers are small, yellowish color, fragant, and grouped in spikes; the fruit is a capsule. Ginger extract, is obtained from root by treating it with a mixture of water and glycerin. The main components of the extract are: Essential oil, whose main component is zingiberene, in addition to camphene, phellandrene, cineol, geraniol, citral and borneol. Resin, consisting on gingerol, shogaol and gingerone, giving a spicy and sour taste. Starch. Pectines and mucilages. Fatty oil. Amino acids and proteins. Mineral salts. 3 Florentine iris extract. Common lily or blue iris (Iris florentina L.) belongs to the Iridaceae family. From its thick rhizome sprouts a stem with long sharp leaves. Its flowers may take various colors, but the most common color is blue - violet. Iris extract is obtained from the dried and finely grounded rhizome. From the poder obtained, an extraction is made with a mixture of water and glycerin. The most characteristic components of the extract are: Starchy polysaccharides. Flavonoids (flavones and isoflavones). Glycosides (iridin, irifloside). Caroteroids (beta-carotene, lutein). Sugars (mono and disaccharides). Phytosterols (beta-sitosterol). Essential oil (methyl and ethyl esters of myristic acid, iridonic ketones, saturated hydrocarbons, terpene and sesquiterpene alcohols, aldehydes and phenols). Nutmeg extract. Nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) belongs to the Miristaceae family and it is native to the islands of the Indian Ocean. Its fruit is a hanging globe drupe-shaped, yellow colour and containing the seed, both, fruit and seed, with intense and characteristic aroma. Nutmeg extract by BIOGRÜNDL, S.L. is obtained by treating the seed with a mixture of water and glycerin, so, the following active ingredients are crawl: Essential oil, containing camphene, pinene, limonene, sabinene, terpineol, linalool, borneol and geraniol as main components. Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is an aromatic shrub belonging to the Labiate family. It is very common in the whole Mediterranean Basin. The most interesting active substances of rosemary are essential oil, whose main components are pinene, camphor, eucalyptol, borneol, bornyl acetate, camphene and limonene; flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin); triterpenes (ursolic and oleanolic acids); phenols (rosmarinic, chlorogenic, caffeic and labiatic acids); tannins; saponins. 4 Rosemary extract is indicated in hair capillary preparations (anti-hair loss, antidandruff, anti-grease); preparations for bath; facial tonics; deodorants; face masks; antiseptic, antioxidant and anti-radical products. Lavender extract. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is a herbaceous plant belonging to the Labiatae family. It is grown in various Mediterranean countries to obtain its essential oil, highly appreciated in perfumery. Lavender extract is obtained from the flowering tops, through careful extraction with a mixture of water and glycerin. The obtained extract contains the following active substances: essential oil mainly consisting of linalyl acetate (50%) and linalol (30%), in addition to other lesser components such as caryophyllene, cineol, geraniol and terpineol. Its content in tannins; rosmarinic, ursolic and oleanoic acid; triterpenic saponins; flavonoids (luteolin) and coumarins is also important. It is remarkable its sedative and calming effect. Aloe vera extract. Obtained from the leaves of Aloe barbadensis. Aloe vera extract contains mainly mucilages, saponins, amino acids, watersoluble vitamins and trace elements (Fe, P, Mg, Si). Aloe vera extract, is suitable to include in sunscreen preparations and to protect skin and hair from harmful effects of sun; at the same time, keeps them hydrated, avoiding loss of water due to increase of cutaneous evaporation, with consequent reduction of elasticity and smoothness. Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is a small evergreen shrub belonging to the labiatae family, with gray-green colour leaves and large blue-violet colour flowers. xx As active ingredients it should be noted the following: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Essential oil, whose main components are pinene, camphor, cineol, Borneol and bornyl acetate. Strogenic material. Phytosterols. SAGE EXTRACT by BIOGRÜNDL, S.L. is obtained from the leaves and the flowering tops by treatment with water and glycerin at temperatures between 50 and 60 C. 5 Vitamin B complex. It is an hydroglyceric yeast extract, containing the following standardized B vitamins: B1 vitamin (Thiamine or aneurin). B2 vitamin (Riboflavin). B3 or PP vitamin (Nicotinamide). B5 provitamin (Panthenol). B6 vitamin (Pyridoxine). B7 or H vitamin (Biotin). B8 vitamin (Inositol). B12 vitamin (Cyanocobalamin). With the exception of panthenol, the other B group vitamins, are obtained from yeast, using an original procedure. Panthenol has been added, so that the product contains the most important and active vitamins from B group, and whose main properties are listed below: B1 vitamin (thiamine or aneurin), very soluble in water and stable at processing temperatures but decomposes in the presence of oxidants, reductants and alkalis; it precipitates in the presence of tannins. Plays an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates and in the synthesis of certain proteins and lipids. B2 vitamin (riboflavin), is yellow colour, slightly soluble in water and stable at process temperatures in acid medium (ph up to 6.5), but decomposse by the action of UV radiation. It is a member of oxidereductases, that is the reason why it has great importance in the overall processes of the body, and particularly, in growth process. Deficiency states are manifested in skin process as seborrhea, dermatitis and dandruff. B3 or PP vitamin (nicotinamide), water soluble and stable under normal process conditions. It has an important role as a proton acceptor and giver. It is involved in the formation of hair. B5 provitamin (panthenol), it is a viscous water soluble liquid, stable at normal process conditions. 6 B6 vitamin (pyridoxine), water soluble and stable under normal process conditions. It has a great importance in oxidation-reduction body reactions and it is involved in the metabolism of the skin, being recognized its protective of UV radiation, antisensibilizing and antiseborrheic properties. B7 vitamin (biotin), also known as H vitamin, it is poorly water soluble,thermosetting and sensitive to UV radiation. It is crucial in carboxylation and transcarboxilation reactions. Its deficiency conditions are manifested by an acceleration of hair loss, hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and follicular dilatation. B8 vitamin (inositol), main factor to form enzymes that regulate the proper metabolism of the skin. Along with B5 vitamin, it is essential to prevent seborrheic and inflammatory changes in skin and scalp. B12 vitamin, also known as cyanocobalamin, containing cobalt in its molecule, it is quite soluble in water and stable at normal process conditions. Its deficiency conditions causes pernicious anemia, dermatitis, changes in tissues and nervous system degeneration. Because of its high content in B vitamins and other bioelements, it has excellent regenerative properties of skin, hair and nails. Hyaluronic acid. Connective tissue has two components: one component is formed by elastin and collagen protein fibers; the other component consists on amorphous material, so called mucopolysaccharides, which embedding significant amounts of water, giving turgency. The main missions in the body consist of helping normal cellular function allowing the intercelular raws transpor; to contribute to the formation of protein fibers; to contribute to biochemical stabilization of dermis constituents and connective tissue and, in the case of the skin, to the maintenance of skin water balance. 7 Mucopolysaccharides are chemically formed by linear units of disaccharides constituted by hexuronic acid (D-glucuronic acid or L-iduronic acid) and N- acetylhexosamine (N-acetyl - D-glucosamine or N-acetyl - D-galactosamine). In Table 1. the chemical composition of mucopolysaccharides is shown. 8 Collagen hydrolyzed is obtained by enzymatic degradation of bovine connective tissue. COLLAGEN HYDROLYZED AMINOGRAM (grames of aminoacid/100 grames of protein) Collagen is the most important scleroprotein of the connective tissue. By a special procedure of enzymatic hydrolysis, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN by BIOGRÜNDL, S.L. is obtained, which can easily be incorporated into cosmetic and dermatological preparations because of its solubility. Collagen is formed in the fibroblasts, where they receive from the environment the necessary amino acids to its synthesis. In providing these hydrolyzed amino acids allows, somewhat, to promote collagen formation and, thereby, slow the skin aging process, as it is shown that, with age, collagen content decreases in the connective tissue. The incorporation of hydrolyzed collagen in cosmetics is justified because it has high penetration ability and can be metabolized at skin level, joining the structure of skin and/or hair, to which nourishes, regenerates, protects and moisturizes. In additin, accelerates healing of wounds and burns. On hair it has, also, very beneficial effects, most notably, improvement of brightness, volume, touch and comb. It protects hair against harmful external agents and increases fixation of colours in dyes. Thiosilicones and quaternized silicones, forming a thin but, also, protective layer on hair, providing an effective protection to it which turns out to be an evident and noticeable improvement. 9 Carnosic acid (Figure 2.), is a natural product, diterpene abietane benzenediol, found in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and in common sage (Salvia officinalis). Dry rosemary or sage leaves contain carnosic acid between 1.5 and 2.5%. Carnosic acid has medicinal properties, it is a powerful antioxidant and protects hair and skin cells against UVA radiation (photoprotection). Figure 2. CARNOSIC ACID CHEMICAL STRUCTURE USE AND DOSAGE Shampoos and hair treaments. If turbidity is observed, it is advisable to previously dissolve the product in a portion of the water provided to manufacture the final product and filter after hours. DERMATOLOGY INNOCUOUSNESS It was performed by the patch test (Patch test) on 10 volunteers. To this purpose, 15% HAIR MAGIC VOLUME by BIOGRÜNDL, S.L., was added to surfactant solution; 0,5g. of this surfactant solution was poured over the patch and attached on the forearm. It is thus maintained for 24, 48 and 72 hours, after which, the given reaction was evaluated, according to the following table of values: 1. No erythema. 2. Slight erythema. 3. Well defined erythema. 4. Severe erythema. The result was absence of erythema on the 10 volunteers. On the recommended concentrations, the product is skin innocuous.
