(ii) All questions are compulsory. (iii) Question numbers 1 to 3 in Section A carry one mark. These are to be answered in one word or one sentence. (iv) Question numbers 4 to 7 in Section A carry two marks. These are to be answered in about 15 (v) Question numbers 8 to15 in Section A carry three marks. These are to be answered in about 25 (vi) Question numbers 16 to18 in Section A carry five marks. These are to be answered in about 30 (vii) Question numbers 19 to 22 in Section B are multiple choice questions based on practical skill. Each question carries one mark. You are to select the most appropriate response out of the four options provided to you. (viii) Questions in Section C have the following components: 1. Question No.23 :Paragraph based questions (1 x 2 =2 marks) 2. Question No.24 : Value based questions (1 x 2 = 2 marks) 3. Question No.25 :Higher order thinking skills questions (1 x 2 = 2 marks) (ix) An additional 15 minutes time has been allotted to read this question paper only. Read the given passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: (2) A group of students in Oman have started a new business that promotes a local, eco friendly agriculture practices by using date palm leaves as an alternative for soil. They gather the leaves, wash and sterlise them to get rid of any bacteria or insects and shred them finely into very small pieces and use it as soil to grow plants. The soil made from date palm leaves contain essential nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium and sodium, which plants need to grow. Plants that grow in this alternative for soil need not be treated with pesticides as it does not attract insects. It also uses a lot less water. Plants have to be just sprayed with water, thereby reducing wastage of water in an arid country like Oman. a) How is the alternative for soil made? b) Write any two points to show that using this soil is beneficial. 24.
