(Hispanic Health Council) FNP-IT coordinator: Anir González (Hispanic Health Council) 2 nd Quarterly Report FY PANA PROGRAM QUARTERLY REPORT (JANUARY-MARCH 2002) During this quarter, PANA delivered 44 puppet shows, 7 oral presentations and 1 Jeopardy Game. These presentations took place at schools (44), day care centers (3) and community agencies (3). Other places that the program visited to perform puppet show were Catholic Schools (2). PANA EVALUATIONS During this quarterly a total of 151 evaluation forms (146 at puppet shows and 5 at oral presentations) were filled by teachers or group coordinators. Overall, 77.4% rated the presentations as very good or excellent.

3 Teachers Comments: Puppet Shows 1/15/02- Five-Food Groups-I have enjoyed the puppet show since they first started and I keep on enjoying them. 1/22/02 Five Food Groups-This show made the students very enthusiastic to participate actively. 1/23/02 Five Food Group-The show is excellent- keep it as it is! 1/24/02 Five Food Group-It was very funny the children really enjoyed it. 1/25/02 Food Safety-This show was very, well done it kept the students attention 2/1/02-Food Safety- The children enjoyed all the shows and remembered what they learned. 2/6/02-Five Food Group-Great job lots of info presented in a fun way! Keep up the good work 2/7/02- Happy Heart-Review of last week was great; Kids interaction keeps them involved and allows for the squirming factor. Amir said the P-show was great! 2/19/02- The young lady that sits next to the stage was very helpful she really redirect the puppets and the children. She made it not so complicated for the children. Keep up the good job! 2/27/02- We appreciate the quality of this program year after year. The performers are always will prepared and enthusiastic. Thank You Very Much 2/27/02- Five-Food Group- Thank you for contributing to our children s knowledge. (Were about food groups this week!) 2/27/02- Five Food Group-This was a wonderful show. The presenters were great. Thank you. 3/5/02 Five Food Groups-Keep it up great job. 3/5/02 Five Food Group-It was a good way to reinforce their knowledge of the five-food group. 3/05/02 Five Food Group-It was great for the children to relate with the nutrition food excellent A+! 3/7/02- Five Food Group-Did Excellent job, very good 3/11/02- Five Food Group-They were very sympathetic to the age group ex their fear of puppets 3/12/02- Five Food Group-Very well prepared and presented maintained the students attention 3/15/02- Five Food Group-This is very good help for the children to help them understand how important is food for their age. Comments: Oral Presentation 1/29/02- Childhood Nutrition- Recipe is a great idea. 3/15/02- The Food Guide Pyramid/ Five Food Groups-Love the games 2/28/02- The Food Guide Pyramid/ Five Food Groups- The best part was the sugar experiment in the soda. The ladies were very professional and educational! I learned A LOT Note: 100% of oral presentations were rated as excellent or very good, and 100% would recommended to other agencies III. RADIO SHOW During this last quarter our weekly, 10 minute radio segment schedule changed from 9:30 am to 8:30 am on Tuesdays. 5 QUARTERLY REPORT BREASTFEEDING: HERITAGE AND PRIDE PROGRAM (JANUARY-MARCH 2002) * 109 referrals were received. Of these, 67 were prenatal and 42 were post partum. * Of the prenatal referrals that were received, 28 women received prenatal home visits, the others are scheduled to receive them in the near future * Of the post-partum referrals that were received, 41 women received post partum home visits within 24 hours of returning home * In total, 128 women received services during this quarter (including those that were registered in previous quarters). * Of the women served during this quarter, 60 gave birth during this quarter. Of these, 56 initiated breastfeeding and out of the 56 women, 38 are still breastfeeding; 2 never initiated breastfeeding; the breastfeeding status for two is unknown. * Post-partum rounds were conducted at Hartford Hospital on a daily basis, serving a total of 256 women. * Program staff participated in the Lactation Committee of Hartford Hospital.
6 EVALUATION & RESEARCH QUARTERLY REPORT (JANUARY - MARCH, 2002) -We completed 136 household interviews in Hartford that are part of the fourth community survey about Latino Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors. The main objectives of this survey is to provide the post-evaluation of the "Breastfeed with Pride Social Marketing Campaign" and to collect baseline data about diabetes and oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices. -The proposal for the Diabetes Prevention Needs Assessment among Latinos (ptoject DIPAL) was written and prepared for submission for approval to the Human Subject Committee at the Hispanic Health Council and at the University of Connecticut. -A draft questionnaire for Dipal was developed. -Two abstracts were submitted and accepted as oral presentations for the first Puerto Rican Public Health Conference. San Juan, Puerto Rico April, Breastfeeding cost-effectiveness study continued to be implemented with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Twenty additional women were recruited during this quarter. An abstract was submitted and accepted as an oral presentation for the Experimental Biology meetings, New Orleans LA, April 19-24, 2002.
