7 Tele-physiotherapy Tele-physiotherapy is the use of information technology in supporting physiotherapy over the internet beyond the current manual, dedicated and hospital-based physiotherapy sessions (Fook et. al., 2008). Med-e-Tel 2016 Conference 7

This study was designed to Investigate clinical physiotherapy students awareness, knowledge and perception of tele-physiotherapy Compare male and female students awareness, knowledge and perception of tele-physiotherapy Determine association among their awareness, knowledge and perception of tele-physiotherapy. 14 Materials and Methods (1) Population-based cross-sectional survey. Participants were selected through a sampling technique of convenience. Oldest and best-rated training institution in Nigeria (University of Ibadan) They were UG physiotherapy students at the clinical phase (300 level 500 level of study) Participants informed consent was obtained.. 16 Materials and Methods (2) Participants bio data of age, sex, level of training Data on awareness, knowledge and perception of students about telephysiotherapy was obtained an existing structured, self-administered validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptive statistics of frequency, means, percentages, pie charts, bar charts Chi-square test, α= Med-e-Tel 2016 Conference 16

17 Outcome (1) Participants (37females; 24males) were aged ±1.54 years. 26, 20 and 15 students at the 300, 400 and 500 level of study. Participants constituted 90% of the total student population. Thirty-nine (64%) participants (24 females; 15 males) were aware of the term telephysiotherapy their source of information was majorly (56.4%) from web journals. Med-e-Tel 2016 Conference 17

18 Outcome (2) More than half of the participants (23 females; 11 males) reported negative perception of tele-physiotherapy. Twenty four (39.3%) participants (11 females; 13 males) reported good knowledge of tele-physiotherapy Fifteen (24.6%) participants (10 females; 5 males) reported poor knowledge of telephysiotherapy Med-e-Tel 2016 Conference 18

19 Outcome (3) Male and female students were comparable in their awareness (p=0.53), perception (p=0.37) and knowledge (p=0.33) of telephysiotherapy. Level of study was not associated with participants awareness (p=0.78), perception (p=0.29) and knowledge (p=0.43) of telephysiotherapy. There was a significant association between participants perception and awareness (p=0.02) no significant association exists between perception and knowledge (p=0.18) of telephysiotherapy. Clinical physiotherapy students from University of Ibadan, Nigeria are fairly knowledgeable about tele-physiotherapy More than half of them appear to have negative perception of the integration of information and communication technology into the Nigerian physiotherapy clinical practice Med-e-Tel 2016 Conference 20

21 Implications Courses on tele-physiotherapy should be included in the curriculum of undergraduate physiotherapy training programme in Nigeria in order to further improve their knowledge and enhance the integration of telephysiotherapy in the Nigerian clinical practice.
