3 Admissions Requirements and Procedures The Applicant must: 1. Be at least 18 years of age; 2. Have a high school diploma or equivalent; 3. Have a 200-hour yoga teaching certificate from a Yoga Alliance registered school; 4. Have at least one (1) year of teaching experience; 5. Have at least one (1) year of personal practice. To be eligible for enrolment in Level 2 courses, the Applicant must: 1. Complete all Level 1 courses; 2. Demonstrate competencies in the material; 3. And passed all Level 1 course assessments with an 80% or higher. The Application Process The Applicant must: 1. Complete the On-line Application; 2. Submit a Personal Statement; 3. Provide three (3) letters of recommendation-two (2) professional and one (1) personal; 4. Provide a copy of the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate 5. If accepted, there is a $ registration fee to confirm placement in the program. Our 850 hour Yoga Therapist Training Program is divided into 3 levels over a 3 year period. Level 1 Training begins in February Level 2 Training begins the following March Level 3 Training begins the following May 3

4 Program Overview Our 850-hour Professional Yoga Therapist Training Program supports IAYT s educational standards for yoga therapy and intends to apply for IAYT accreditation following implementation of the new process. AlcheMe Yoga Therapy training program provides 850 hours of in-depth training in yoga therapy in the tradition of Sri T. Krishnamacharya and Sri TKV Desikachar. Through its comprehensive curriculum, practical internships and individual mentoring, the training offers an opportunity for thorough grounding in the therapeutic application of yoga. Trainees will gain knowledge of evidence informed practices and to skillfully adapt the tools of yoga therapy to the individual needs of the client or specific patient group. Our 850-hour Yoga Therapist Training Program is divided into 3 levels over a 3 year period. Level 1 February of Year 1 January of Year 2: Foundational Courses for Yoga Therapy Level 2.1 March of Year 2 - September of Year 2: Yoga Therapy for Musculoskeletal Ailments Level 2.2 October of Year 2 April of Year 3: Yoga Therapy for the Energetic Body Level 3.1 May of Year 3 September of Year 3: Yoga Therapy for the Mental / Emotional Body Level 3.2 October of Year 3 June of Year 4: Integrative Medicine and Special Populations March of Year 2 - June of Year 4: Practicum Program Schedule AlcheMe Yoga Therapy program provides a consistent structure for Levels 1, 2, and 3 of the training. Classes meet for 1-2 full weekend per month: Friday 6:00-9:15pm Saturday 12:30-6:30pm Sunday 12:00-5:45ppm Level 1 consists of 18 weekends / 13-months Levels 2/3 consist of 22 weekends / 26-months, as well as twenty (20) mentorship / practicum preparations sessions The practicum starts at the beginning of Level 2 and will be completed in 26 months 4

7 Course Descriptions Level 1 Courses: Yoga Therapy Tools and Therapeutic Skills This course provides the foundational principles for building a therapeutic relationship. Trainees will gain knowledge of the primary assessment models used throughout all levels of this training; which include the Pancha Maya Kosha model, 7 Yajna Model and Prana-Agni-Mala Models. Trainees will learn applications of these models to identify client imbalances and apply appropriate yoga therapy tools. In addition, trainees will be introduced to the basic principles of developing a therapeutic relationship as well as how to apply such principles in practice. This course is delivered in four (4) sections: YT101 Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health: This section provides an introduction to the primary assessment models to based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya, as well as how to assess specific client imbalances, identify contraindications and implement appropriate tools based on client assessments. In this section trainees will learn broad strokes yoga therapy practices for conditions that include: low back ailments, heart disease, respiratory/energetic imbalances, addiction, obesity/digestive ailments and relationship issues. In addition, this section weaves in an invaluable public health perspective to empower yoga therapists with language to advocate for yoga therapy services within health systems. Trainees will gain knowledge of the risk factors that influence health behaviors and how yoga therapy intervention programs can be applied to improve health outcomes for specific conditions. Trainees will also learn how to develop, implement and evaluate group yoga therapy programs for specific populations or health conditions. YT102 Proprioception and Ethical Use of Touch: This section provides a comprehensive perspective on ethical issues and informed consent. It takes a practical approach toward hand placement, quality of touch, and the importance of clear verbal cues as they relate to areas of greatest risk, minimizing risk, and gaining the knowledge required for the circumstances that are within the scope of practice. Understanding the relationship of touch, sensory information, and proprioception will provide the foundation for ethical case analysis and other critical thinking activities. YT103 Basic Principles of a Therapeutic Relationship: This section provides the foundations that the yoga therapist client relationship is the basis, the very core, of all yoga therapy treatment approaches regardless of the specific aim. It introduces the fundamentals of the very first process between yoga therapist and client that the yoga therapist is entering into a relationship with the client that essentially is safe, confidential, reliable, and consistent with appropriate and clear boundaries. The principles of a therapeutic yoga therapist-client relationship have specific goals and functions that will be discussed and analyzed through case studies and group discussion. 7

8 YT 104 Applications of Basic Principles of Therapeutic Relationships: This section provides a comprehensive perspective on methods to achieve the goals of a therapeutic relationship including facilitating, assisting, helping, and promoting self-care and independence. Through direct participation and case studies, the trainee will maximize communication skills, understanding of human behaviors, and personal strengths with a focus of enhancement of the client s growth. In addition, the important indirect actions that demonstrate respect in the therapeutic relationship, such as empathy, attentiveness, genuine, boundary issues will be explored. This section serves as a culmination of Level 1 topics, reinforcing and assessing trainee understanding and ability to apply customized yoga practices within a therapeutic relationship. Trainees will be given a final teaching project and case study that will receive instructor feedback and graded assessment, requiring them to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the moment in developing a practice for an individual s needs. Philosophical Foundations for Yoga Therapy This program is based upon teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and studying the source texts of Yoga is of paramount importance. It provides the philosophical and psychological context necessary to apply yoga therapy tools and build therapeutic relationships. This course is delivered in three (3) sections that provide the core teachings from the Vedic and post-vedic periods as they relate to yoga therapy. This course is delivered in three (3) sections. PH101 Yoga Sutras Tools for Yoga Therapy: This section provides a comprehensive perspective of Patanjali s Yoga Sutras as an influential work on yoga philosophy and guidelines for therapeutic practice. By studying the source text of Yoga through the lens of yoga therapy, trainees will gain an understanding of the causes of suffering, the nature of the mind, and myriad tools available to the yoga therapist. In the Krishnamacharya lineage, the teachings outlined in the Yoga Sutras are presented with a therapeutic lens to assist clients in achieving their health-related goals. Trainees will learn the proper application of tools based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya that can be used in yoga therapy sessions with their clients as well as the parameters to apply such tools. PH102 Ayurveda Framework for Health and Disease: This section provides the Ayurvedic paradigm as it relates to the make-up of the material world through the lens of Samkhya philosophy, as well as body constitutions using tri-dosha theory. The primary focus of this class will consist of the three pillars of health; which include food and digestion, sleep and energy expenditure. With a broad stroke understanding of Ayurveda, the focus will be about the various ways disease manifests using the concepts of agni, ama, mala and samskaras. Class content will cover ways to address specific imbalances with daily dinacharya practices; which are crafted according to client s specific dosha, stage of life, the season, and life goals within the scope of practice of a yoga therapist. 8

9 PH103 Bhagavad Gita for Yoga Therapy: This section provides a comprehensive examination of the Gita s profound insights on such central Yogic themes as meditation, right-knowledge, dharma, detachment, devotion and their practical applications to everyday life to be used as guidelines for therapeutic sessions with the goal of alleviating suffering. The Gita outlines three distinct paths of yoga based on three different personality types. This framework can be helpful to a yoga therapist in determining how to design practices for different personality types. Numerous tools are presented in the Gita with the sole intention of alleviating suffering. Correct knowledge of these tools is important to the work of a yoga therapist. A strong focus will be on understanding how to develop culturally appropriate yoga therapy applications of the practices outlined in the Gita to be used within a therapeutic context. The therapeutic practices derived from the Gita are based upon the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya. Yoga Therapy Foundations for the Physical Body This course provides the foundational principles of the art and science of developing an asana, pranayama, and dhyanam practice that addresses the therapeutic needs of an individual related to the physical body. The objective is integrating movement science with ancient wisdom to create a safe, scientifically grounded, and effective practice for the needs of an individual. This course is delivered in six (6) sections. YTPB101 Principles and skills of Teaching Methodology: This section provides the principles of appropriate therapeutic sequencing based on upon the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya. This is a comprehensive exploration in adaptation of yoga sequences to meet the needs of the individuals using the tools of asana, pranayama and dhyanam. Focused attention is on the assessment of an individual needs using the lens of the panchamaya model. Development of specific goals for the individual client is addressed using the principles of vinyasa krama to move the client forward in a sustainable and appropriate manner. This class consists of experiential group practice teaching to assess the ability to design and execute safe yoga therapy sequences. YTPB102 Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Therapy: This section provides a foundational anatomy overview, key functional movement principles of biomechanics, and major components of the musculoskeletal system. The focus is on the exploring planes of action, understanding appropriate terminology, and developing the tools to assess their client s structural alignment and movement patterns. Development of appropriate practices to increase structural integrity, modifications to meet the needs of the individual, and how to predict and minimize risks of asana practice will be addressed. In addition, attention is given to the development of a language for communicating observations to both clients and medical professionals. 9

10 YTPB103 Biomechanics and Movement for Yoga Therapy: This section provides a comprehensive exploration of the physical structure to understand optimal and faulty muscle recruitment patterns that have been identified to contribute to common musculoskeletal impairments. The skill of observation develops the ability to identify postures and muscle recruitment patterns that may cause faulty postures, repetitive strain, overstretching, low back pain, and energy inefficiency. YTPB104 Foundations of Asana for Yoga Therapy: This section explores the five categories of asana (standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists and inversions) focused on the physiological outcomes of different practices and modifications for specific health conditions. For each of the types of postures presented, attention to common misalignments, possible health conditions, and probable imbalances that require critical thinking skills in developing appropriate modifications or sequences. The objective is to gain the skills and abilities to modify specific asana to meet the needs of the individual as well as how to regress and progress asana in therapeutic settings. YTPB105 Tools and Techniques for Teaching Students with Injuries: This section provides a review of common musculoskeletal injuries and focuses on the tools to enable you to see more of what a client experiencing. One of the most valuable skills a yoga therapist can have is the skill of observation. Observation techniques that encompass the static and kinesthetic components to our understanding of what we observe is going on in an individual s body. The observation skills, together with the knowledge of indications and contraindications of musculoskeletal injuries will inform our verbal cues or hands-on adjustments that we use to guide clients. YTPB106 Common Pathologies of the Human Systems: This section explores the functions of each physiological system in the body and provides a review of general terminology associated with disease and injury. The focus is how disease can be defined as an impairment of health that interferes with the body s ability to function normally; as appropriate to Level 1 coursework. This class lays the foundation for Levels 2/3 Pathophysiology study of how disease and trauma alter the normal functioning of the body. In this section, trainees will learn general assessment principles using the panchamaya model, adaptations for common pathologies and applications of asana, pranayama and dhyanam using a 12 step class formula based off Larry Payne s work in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya, as well as delivery methodology for clients. Yoga Therapy Foundations for the Subtle Bodies This section explores the concept of the subtle body that provides us with a reference system of the connections between the physical, mental, and subtle aspects of ourselves. This section explores the pranamaya, manomaya, vijnanamaya and anandamaya layers, as appropriate to Level 1 coursework. Trainees will gain knowledge of common imbalances that occur at each layer; which includes various mental health conditions, energetic imbalances, trauma and relationship issues. 10

11 Trainees will learn how to assess imbalances in each of these interacting layers, including common psychology models, the pranavayu system, chakra system and 7 Yajna models. Tools to address imbalances include therapeutic applications of pranayama, dhynam, mantras, mudras, positive psychology practices and relationship tools to improve subtle body health. This course is delivered in four (4) sections. YTSB101 Mental Health and Mind Body Science for Yoga Therapy: This section provides an investigation into the Western scientific perspectives on the mind and the brain. Topics include neuroplasticity and how yoga therapy practices can be introduced to elicit positive neuro-cognitive changes. An emphasis will be placed on positive psychology practices; which are backed by evidence-based research and specifically designed to shift ones mindset from negative self-limiting beliefs to a positive mindset. Trainees will study the interactions of the mind and body and learn how to offer customized yoga practices to improve mental/emotional health, as well as relationships. YTSB102 Principles of Pranayama for Yoga Therapy: This section provides a journey thorough the understanding of the energetic body, as well as tools and practices to work with this layer. The focus will be on the proper techniques of various pranayama practices that range from the most basic to the most advanced; as well as the discernment of how to correctly apply such practices. Pranayama is more subtle than asana and observation of the respiratory pattern and energy levels provides us with information about their current health status. This course will provide a variety of tools and models to assess the energetic body, identify areas that may be out of balance and provide customize pranayama practices to balance the pranamaya kosha. YTSB103 Foundations of Meditation for Yoga Therapy: This section explores the nature of the mind and different types of meditation practices to positively impact the manomaya layer. Trainees will learn techniques to observe different types of mental patterns, assess client imbalances through subjective and objective findings and gain knowledge of how to utilize correct tools to develop appropriate meditation practices for individual clients and therapeutic group class settings. Trainees will learn to address client needs by offering customized meditation practices; which may also include asana and pranayama as supportive tools to focus the mind. YTSB104 Mantras, Guided Meditation, and Mudras for Yoga Therapy: This section provides an introduction to additional tools to be used in a therapeutic session to address the subtle body, as well as offer critical thinking skills for basic therapeutic applications. Tools such as: guided meditation practices, mantras, mudras and affirmations will be introduced. For each tool presented, the focus will be on the benefits, risks, and alternatives to using the intervention and appropriate assessment protocols. Each of these tools will be expanded upon in more depth during Levels 2 and 3 of this training. 11

12 YTSB105 Developing a Trauma Informed Lens for Yoga Therapy: This section provides an understanding of how trauma impacts physical/mental/emotional wellbeing and relationships. Trainees will gain knowledge of how to cultivate a trauma-informed lens when conducting a client intake or leading group classes for trauma survivors. In addition, this section will cover safe adaptations of asana, pranayama and meditation practices for this population. YTSB106 Psychology of Healthy Relationships: This section will explore specific relationship imbalances that can negatively impact a client s mental/ emotional/energetic health. This section provides various models to assess relationship health such as the 7 yajna model, chakra system and yamas/niyamas. Based on these mind-body assessments, trainees will learn how to work with their clients to develop deliberate yoga therapy relationship practices to improve inter-personal relationships. Trainees will gain knowledge of practical relationship tools derived from the Yoga Sutras. In this section, trainees will review the basic principles of a therapeutic relationship, taking into consideration the scope of practice for yoga therapists when addressing relationship imbalances. Level 2 Courses: Yoga Therapy Applications for Musculoskeletal Ailments This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the application of therapeutic tools to address conditions associated musculoskeletal system that includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and the skeleton. The focus will be on the study of how conscious biomechanical actions influence unconscious physiological responses. They will be able to assess musculoskeletal ailments, chart progress using SOAP notes, read and interpret doctor s reports, synthesize intake and assessment, and apply customized practices for specific musculoskeletal conditions. Yoga Therapy Applications for the Energetic Body This course focuses on the energetic body; which includes anatomy of the respiratory, digestive, circulatory, endocrine, nervous and energetic systems. It includes common ailments of each system and strategies for therapeutic treatment. In addition, this module includes assessment tools and practices for autoimmune conditions, cancer care, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and chronic pain. Trainees will gain knowledge of the various tools used to improve energetic body imbalances such as asana, pranayama, dhynama, yoga nidra, mantra and lifestyle modifications. Trainees will learn to analyze information received during client intake, utilize the Vyuda model, comprehend imbalances across various human systems and synthesize information to develop a therapeutic plan with appropriate tools. Small Group Mentorship / Practicum Preparation This course provides an opportunity to synthesize previously learned content through case study analysis, role playing activities, and standardized clients. The focus is to facilitate and promote active learning, help clinical problem solving, and encourage the development of critical thinking skills through the provision of real-life scenarios highlighting theoretical concepts within practical situations. 12

13 The presenter will share the background of a case and the trainees will go through the assessment together as a group. They will ask the client questions understand the case history and each individual trainee will chart the session using SOAP notes. In the SOAP notes, trainees will evaluate the client s physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing. Trainees will integrate the assessment information as a group and will identify the primary and secondary koshas involved, as well as short-term and long-term client goals. Trainees will be asked to offer additional intake questions, yoga therapy tools for the specific client case or may be able to practice teach when appropriate. Together as a group or individually, trainees will develop customized yoga therapy practices while considering the holistic nature of the individual. These Mondays offer a time for trainees to bring forth questions and insights from their practicum and share with the group to clarify learning and solidify best practices. When faculty brings in a client, trainees will take turns assisting in yoga therapy delivery. The goal of this course is clarify course material, improve intake and assessment, SOAP notes, application of tools and plan development. Level 3 Courses: Yoga Therapy Applications for the Mental / Emotional / Spiritual Bodies This course focuses on the manomaya, vijnanamaya and anandamaya koshas; which provide a framework to evaluate and understand the multidimensional nature of the human mind and its relationship with other subtle body systems. Course content will explore the complex nature of the human mind in much greater depth than presented in Level 1 with a greater emphasis on pathology and treatment. Trainees will gain knowledge of the underlying, correlating factors and side effects of conditions such as depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, traumatic injuries, chronic pain and mental obstacles from a yoga perspective. Trainees will learn how to assess, analyze such conditions, utilize the Vyuda model and apply deliberate yogic practices for individuals or groups. Trainees will learn to correctly apply the following tools to improve subtle body imbalances including: asana, pranayama, dhynam, guided imagery, and cultivating listening and presence as a yoga therapist. Integrative Medicine and Special Populations In this course the focus is on understanding the multi-dimensional health needs of specific populations; which include: clients experiencing cancer, menopause, fertility related issues, clients with disabilities, family members / care takers, children with special needs and clients at end of life. Trainees will gain knowledge of the specific imbalances affecting these various patient groups, learn how to assess and identify primary and secondary imbalances, as well as synthesize this information to develop a therapeutic plan. Level 3 also includes the Integrative Medicine component of the training, where trainees will gain knowledge of how to develop, implement, market and evaluate yoga therapy programs in treatment centers, universities and clinical settings, as well as how to build inter-professional, collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals. 13

14 Small Group Mentorship / Practicum Preparation In Level 3, trainees will present a case they are working on during their practicum and share the background of their case. This serves to assess trainee s presentation skills and ability to summarize a case in a logical sequence, as well as offer group support during trainee s practicum. Trainees will go through the assessment together as a group. They will ask the client questions understand the case history and each individual trainee will chart the session using SOAP notes. In the SOAP notes, trainees will evaluate the client s physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing. Practicum In this course trainees will gain experience providing yoga therapy. They are required to begin their practicum at the Be The Change Yoga Clinic where they receive higher levels of supervision and oversight from their supervisor. After completing 30 hours at the BTCY Clinic, trainees can begin to see clients at additional sites, while still reporting to their supervisor and submitting SOAP notes and client summary reports. 15 Transfer Policy All applicants seeking to transfer credit hours must have a 200-hour yoga-teaching certificate from a Yoga Alliance registered school. These hours are considered prerequisite hours and will not be considered for transfer credits. Please note that trainees who import transfer hours are required to complete at minimum the following fundamental Level 1 courses: Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health and The Yoga Sutras for Yoga Therapy. To transfer credit hours and apply for enrollment in our yoga therapy training, applicants would complete the steps below: 1. Submit a Transfer Credit Request form to our program advisor; which includes: a. School name b. Dates of training attended c. Numbers of hours completed d. List of individual courses and hours per course e. Course assignments f. Numbers of hours student wants to transfer 2. Submit a copy of the course syllabus, certified transcript and certificate of completion. 3. Once the above forms have been completed; trainee will schedule a meeting with a Program Director to review the Transfer Credit Request form, syllabus and course materials of the 300-hour transfer credit program to determine if the content is in accordance with IAYT core competencies. Transfer Evaluation Process AlcheMe Yoga Therapy will consider transfer hours from two (2) options: 1. If an applicant has completed a 300-hour yoga teaching certificate from a Yoga Alliance registered school, a maximum of 150 hours may be considered for transfer if the content directly relates to the required IAYT Yoga Therapy competencies (see category 1 below). 2. If an applicant has been enrolled in an IAYT accredited Yoga Therapy program, a maximum of 300 hours may be considered for transfer. In this case, 300 hours of content must directly relate to the required IAYT Yoga Therapy competencies (see category 2 below). 3. An AcheMe Program Director will conduct a transcript evaluation to determine if the course content is in accordance with the IAYT core competencies. This may include review of syllabi and course materials. 4. The applicant will be required to complete a comprehensive assessment to determine mastery of the identified competencies. This may be in the form of a written, practical, or oral assessment, depending on the nature of the transfer content. This assessment will be scored following a grading rubric to determine the total allowable transfer hours. 15

If the number of transfer hours does not fulfill the requirements for completion of level 1 courses, the trainee will be required to take Level 1 courses that address the missing competencies or arrange independent study options with faculty with that particular expertise. Trainee will be responsible for tuition of the coursework on a prorated basis. 6. All transfer trainees are required to complete the Bridge Program that includes two (2) fundamental Level 1 courses: Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health and The Yoga Sutras for Yoga Therapy. 7. Trainees that are transferring hours from a Yoga Alliance approved Yoga Teaching Program must also complete The Basic Principles of a Therapeutic Relationship (11.75 hours) and Applications of Basic Principles of a Therapeutic Relationship (11.75 hours). The remaining required hours will be determined on a case-by-case evaluation. The Bridge Program Trainees who import either 150 transfer hours from a Yoga Alliance registered program or up to 300 hours from IAYT yoga therapy accredited program must complete the Bridge Program; which includes fundamental Level 1 courses: Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health and The Yoga Sutras for Yoga Therapy. Transfer credit hours are applied towards Level 1 courses of our training program and have the potential to excuse the trainee from courses except the Bridge Program; which includes Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health and The Yoga Sutras for Yoga Therapy courses. All trainees are required to complete all Levels 2/3 courses and the entire practicum portion of the training. Total cost for Levels 2/3, books and Bridge Program:....$9625 Trainees must have already completed a 200-hour Yoga Alliance registered training program. These hours count as prerequisite hours and cannot be considered transfer hours. We will accept up to 150 transfer hours from Yoga Alliance registered 300-hour training programs if the content directly relates to the required IAYT Yoga Therapy competencies. Our school will not accept electives or partial credit yoga therapy courses. We will accept up to 300 transfer hours from IAYT accredited yoga therapy programs that directly relate to IAYT core competencies. The maximum amount of transfer hours we will accept is 300. If a trainee imports 300 transfer hours after passing the transfer evaluation process, they will still need to take the Bridge Program; which includes the Yoga Therapy Foundations, Practice, and Public Health and The Yoga Sutras for Yoga Therapy courses. The school must refund all money paid if the applicant is not accepted. This includes instances when a starting class is canceled by the school. 2. The school must refund all money paid minus the $600 registration fee if the applicant cancels within five business days after the day the contract is signed or an initial payment is made, as long as the applicant has not begun training. 3. If training is terminated by the trainee after the start of classes, the school may retain the registration fee and all monthly tuition payments received until the date the trainee officially notifies Be The Change Yoga in writing that he / she will be withdrawing from the course. (a) When the school receives notice of the trainee s intention to discontinue the training program. (b) When the trainee is terminated for a violation of a published school policy; which provides for termination. (c) When a trainee, without notice, fails to attend classes for sixty calendar days. 4. All refunds must be paid within thirty calendar days of the trainee s official termination date. 19

20 Discontinued Programs If the school discontinues instruction in any program after trainees enter training, including circumstances in which the school changes its location, trainees must be notified in writing of such events and are entitled to a tuition refund on a pro-rated basis for classes that have yet to be offered, unless comparable training is arranged for by the school and agreed upon, in writing, by the trainee. A written request for such a refund must be made within 90 days from the date the program was discontinued or relocated and the refund must be paid within 30 days after receipt of such a request. Termination by the School A trainee who fails to maintain satisfactory progress, violates safety regulations, interferes with other trainees work, is disruptive, obscene, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or does not make timely tuition payments, is subject to immediate termination. Cancellation of Classes The school reserves the right to cancel a starting class if the number of trainees enrolling is insufficient. Such a cancellation will be considered a rejection by the school and will entitle the trainee to a full refund of all money paid. Financial Aid A monthly auto-pay plan that allows for installment payments for 13 months for Level 1 and 26 months for Levels 2/3. Academic Performance Requirements AlcheMe Yoga Therapy provides the highest level of training available to yoga teachers and requires the following academic standards to maintain candidacy for program enrollment: 1. Trainees are alert and engaged in class discussions and ask questions when appropriate; 2. Trainees participate in the integration activities, reflecting comprehension of the subject matter; 3. Trainees complete and turn in their homework assignments on time; 4. Trainees commit to a personal practice and journal about their personal experience and self-transformation. To advance to the Level 2/3 program, it is required that the trainee: 5. Complete all Level 1 courses; 6. Demonstrate competencies in the material; 7. And passed all Level 1 course assessments with an 80% or higher. 20

21 Rules for Trainee Conduct The following regulations apply to any person who is enrolled as an AlcheMe Yoga Therapy trainee. These rules are not to be interpreted as all inclusive of situations in which discipline will be invoked. These rules are illustrative, and the School reserves the right to take disciplinary action in appropriate circumstances not set out in this student handbook. The School reserves the right to exclude at any time trainees whose conduct is deemed undesirable or prejudicial to the School community s best interest. Behavior resulting in disciplinary action may involve, but is not limited to, one or a combination of those listed below: 1. Dishonesty in any form, including plagiarism, illegal copying of software, and knowingly furnishing false information to the School; 2. Forgery, alteration, or misuse of School documents, records, or identification; 3. Failure to comply with written or verbal directives of duly authorized School officials who are acting in the performance of assigned duties; 4. Interference with the academic or administrative processes of the School or any of its approved activities; 5. Theft or damage to property; 6. No recording of class lectures is permitted; 7. Violation of civil or criminal codes of local, state, or federal governments; 8. Unauthorized use of or entry into School facilities; 9. Violation of any state policies or regulations governing trainee relationship to the School. Trainee Obligations For trainees to remain in good standing at the School, they must: Maintain academic standards, attend classes, and meet all financial obligations; Be courteous and respectful in dealing with faculty, administrators, and fellow trainees; Adhere to the federal, state, and municipal laws of the U.S., as well as to the rules and policies of the school; Arrive to class on time and stay for the entire duration of the class. Prior arrangements must be made if a trainee has a conflict that requires him/her to be late or leave early; Be responsible for scheduling make-up sessions for missed classes (full or partial); Honor the time and sanctity of the group. Any personal issues are to be handled in private sessions with a mentor; Respect the varying opinions and lineages of the presenters and fellow trainees; Practice saucha respecting the practice of cleanliness in mind and body; Practice ahimsa speaking with honest and kind communication, refraining from physical / verbal / sexual abuse of any kind; Present professional behavior; which includes modest attire and active engagement in classroom discussion; Honor confidentiality; Help clean and tidy up at the end of each session; Behave in accordance with AlcheMe Yoga Therapy s Code of Conduct. 21

22 Grading Policy 1. The grading policy is on a Pass/Fail System. 2. For a trainee to pass the Level 1 program and enroll in Level 2/3, he/she must receive an 80% on all assessments. 3. For a trainee to receive Certificate of Completion of the AlcheMe Yoga Therapy Training, he/she must pass all assessments with an 80% or higher. Attendance Policy To receive certification, trainees must complete all of the required hours; which include prerequisite courses, weekend intensives, practicum and small group mentorship. Trainees are allowed to miss one small group mentorship session without making it up. If a trainee is absent for a Yoga Therapy weekend intensive, he / she can make them up the next year or schedule a make-up session with a mentor (at the hourly rate of the mentor). If a trainee misses 2 weekend intensives in a row, the classes will have to be made up by scheduling a make-up session with a mentor prior to continuing the program. To receive certification, trainees can make-up a maximum of 2 weekend intensives per year Leave of Absence Policy If trainee has to take a leave of absence from the training for whatever reason, trainee must meet with a Program Director and provide an official statement regarding leave of absence and together develop a rough timeline for resuming training. To resume the training, trainee must satisfy the following requirements: 1. Behaved in accordance to the rules for trainee conduct during previous enrollment; 2. Maintain contact with a Program Director quarterly to provide updates as to trainee status and readiness to resume training; 3. Resume the training within 18-months from date of official withdrawal; 4. Before re-entering the program, trainee will schedule a meeting with a Program Director to assess readiness and ability to commit to the program; 5. If re-admitted into the program, trainee can begin coursework where he / she left off or choose to re-take classes to review previously learned material with no additional charge. Program Completion Requirements To receive certification, trainees must have attended all contact hours or made up any missed classes with a faculty member. Trainees must have completed all homework assignments and received a passing grade on 80% of assignments. Trainees must have completed all of their practicum hours and received passing grades on their written thesis and oral presentation. 22

31 Program Faculty School Director Katie received her Masters in Public Health from Tulane University, specializing in chronic disease prevention and wrote her thesis on yoga s ability to prevent and treat chronic diseases. Her focus is health education program design, implementation and evaluation. She received her yoga therapy training from LMU s Yoga Therapy Rx Program with Larry Payne and has continued her studies with Robert Birnberg since Katie also spent a month at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India enrolled in a Yoga Sutras and Yoga Therapy certificate course. Katie Allen, MPH, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500 Katie has taught over 12,000 hours of group class yoga and yoga therapy. She has been co-leading 200-hour teacher trainings since 2010 and leading 300-hour teacher trainings since She has trained and certified over 180 Yoga Alliance registered teachers and accumulated over 2500 hours of leading teacher trainings. She managed a wellness center for seven years and developed their yoga therapy department; which included program development, administration and evaluation. She developed the yoga therapy department for Newport Academy s in-patient and out-patient facilities; which is a treatment facility for teens experiencing addiction and co-occurring disorders ( ). She co-founded Orange County s first donation-based yoga studio in 2013 with the intention of becoming Orange County s center for higher education and yoga therapy. She currently oversees all levels of teacher training programs, as well as the yoga therapy department. Most recently she has been working with hospitals and health systems to develop integrative yoga therapy programs for specific populations and health conditions. She has developed partnerships with Hoag Hospital s Center for Healthy Living, as well as the Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange. She has presented at SYTAR on How to Develop and Market Comprehensive Yoga Therapy Programs in Clinical Settings. Administrative Director Heidi Crocker, EdD, DC, C-IAYT Heidi is a practicing chiropractor and yoga therapist with an emphasis on functional rehabilitation and integrative health. She has also earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She currently serves as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Pacific States University and is contributing faculty in the Master of Health Science program at the St. Augustine University for Health Science. 32 Program Director Tess O Hern YTRX, C-IAYT, PT, DPT Tess received her doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2004 and has been a Therapy Manager for California Children s Services for both Orange County and LA County since She has created and developed programs for improved therapy services and co-created a new model of therapy service implemented county-wide for 6000 patients. Tess received her Clinical Yoga Therapist Certification from Loyola Marymount University in 2012 and has provided yoga in-services to therapy staff at California Children s Services, L.A. and Orange Co. She has also mentored pediatric therapist to incorporate yoga into physical and occupational therapy sessions. She currently co-treats pediatric patients with special health care needs using yoga therapy and pranayama. She has presented on yoga therapy as a guest lecturer in California State University, Long Beach, Physical Therapy Program. Program Director Megan McCarver C-IAYT, MA, YTRX-500 Megan co-founded Santa Monica Yoga Studio in 1993; which is still providing yoga classes to this day. She received her Master of Arts Degree M.F.C.C in 1990 and completed (3) 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs, as well as a 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program at Yoga Works in Costa Mesa. Aside from her formal yoga therapy training, her additional yoga therapy qualifications come from studying with and assisting Donna Farhi for over 7 years. Cheri has spent over 150 hours studying with Donna and over 175 hours as her teaching assistant in yoga trainings around the world; which honed her teaching abilities, pedagogic model, teaching method and scope of practice. Her Franklin Method certificate included an additional 378 hours in anatomy, physiology and optimal functioning of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system and nervous system. 32

Andrea Deerheart Ph.D, C.L.E., MA Andrea received her Doctorate from Pacifica Graduate Institute, where her studies focused upon mythology, depth psychology, comparative religions, and death, dying and beyond. She s servied as a Hospice Social Worker, end-of-life guide (death doula), care manager, and grief counselor, providing much-needed support to many people facing the hard challenges of life s major transitions. Dr. Deerheart also has more than twenty-five years of experience in the fields of nutrition, health, wellness, and body mechanics, which she continues to teach at Saddleback College. Amy Harper has over 1000 hours of yoga therapy training in the Krishnamacharya lineage studying at the Healing Yoga Institute with Dr. Amy Wheeler. She has been practicing as a yoga therapist since 2011 and specializes in subtle body tools such as guided imagery for clients who have experienced trauma such as TBI, cancer and transition from life to death.
