COLLEEN CHANCLER What are some of your ideas to generate value for membership as a means to encourage and retain members? Membership (new and retained) is a major focus we have been working on since I became President in January. Continuing to strengthen and support the groups in PPTA like Connect PA! which has been serving as an incubator for new ideas like a coordinated PT Day of Service and participation in more community based activities like Falls Prevention Awareness Day is one way. I have participated with the SIG work group and want to foster the value of clinical expertise that is shared with webinars, mentoring and posting in newsletters. I lead a group working on new formatting of newsletters (electronic and print) to represent a fresh look and timely content. I would like to see a new strategy of using want ads to better describe how we can engage members for meaningful contributions. Specifically posting what we need and time frames for service would allow better matching of talent I believe is waiting in the wings for the right invitation. Value is derived differently for each person so listening is critical. Our board meetings have a large commitment to discussion and big idea generation and our monthly meetings have expanded to include other leaders and partners within PPTA. In your opinion, what is a current high priority issue for the physical therapy profession in Pennsylvania? For the profession, I believe practicing at the highest level of our license as well as using the best evidence for the excellent outcomes our patients/clients deserve is our highest priority. We need to provide education, resources and networks to allow for excellence in clinical care, education and research agendas. It is hard to be the only or one of the few people in a clinic or location who has this perspective so supporting and providing access to information is a role PPTA can provide. Further, our legislative agenda at PPTA needs to support and be unapologetic for demanding excellence. PPTA needs to listen to providers to better understand how we can help when legislative bills come forward and how we can be part of the legislative development in Harrisburg. I believe that unwarranted variations in care can be improved with better use of existing clinical practice guidelines (CPG) that have been developed by the APTA Sections/Academies. We need to share that and highlight practices and clinicians using those CPG s like the SIGs are currently doing but to a larger audience. Sharing clinical knowledge and providing standards of care is where PPTA can continue to grow.

Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? I love what I am doing and working on behalf of PPTA and the membership. Now that I have finished school, I do have better time to commit to projects and ideas and I want to visit more locations to meet and listen to our members. I hope that PPTA can increase a community presence, that we can better recognize the talent in our state in PA and at the National level and that we can energize our base to believe that the gift we offer everyday has a positive and meaningful change for those we work with and for. The leadership within PPTA is an inspirational group and committed to year-round governance. Those conversations energize me and make me want to work harder to accomplish great things. I hope that you have seen some positive changes in the last year and ask for your vote for President Elect.

AMY HUMPHREY Activities of the House of Delegates involves year-round engagement. How would you suggest facilitating the Pennsylvania delegation's ability to be participate in the exchange of information and work of the House? As Chief, my goals will be to assist and promote the efforts of all delegates while also serving as a facilitator between the delegates, the PPTA Board of Directors, and all members across the state that have an interest in the governance of our national association. Moreover, the Chief Delegate must be willing to spend many hours in preparation for the House and must give our delegates the tools and information they need to make informed decisions. Therefore, the first meeting of the Pennsylvania Delegation should occur soon after the close of the June House of Delegates in order to maintain the momentum and enthusiasm of the House experience. Having meetings (mostly virtual with a few in person) after the Town Hall meetings to discuss the current motion concepts would also be beneficial to the delegation. Assigning delegates to attend the town halls and ask them to bring updates to our meetings would be helpful as well throughout the year. This participation will allow for all members, new and experienced, to be involved in many aspects of the delegation which will ensure that all participants are engaged. An engaged group of delegates will be critical in my effort to put forth strong legislation. Given the House of Delegates is the policy and position making body of the APTA, what are some ideas you have to facilitate policy-level thinking within the delegation that may then lead to motion concept development? Being a large chapter, Pennsylvania has the opportunity to not only influence the direction of the House of Delegates but also bring a host of experience to the conversations. Researching and reviewing current policies and considering proposed updates or changes that need to be made would help facilitate policylevel thinking by our delegates. Moreover, engaging in brainstorming sessions would be another excellent way to bring ideas about the advancement of our profession to the forefront. These sessions would use the contributions and the eclectic background of each member of the delegation to further the policy discussions. Finally, sending delegates out to their districts to engage with active members and return to delegate meetings with issues or ideas that may be used to create future motion concepts. Therefore, my goals as Chief Delegate would be to ensure that the voice of each delegate and the constituents they represent are heard, that the Pennsylvania delegation actively participates and leads in determining the future of the profession, and to ensure that the discussions of the House are focused on critical issues for the profession.

Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? Involvement in our professional organization has added great depth and richness to my career as a physical therapist. I have 15 years in clinical practice (primarily outpatient orthopedics) and 4 years as adjunct PT faculty. This background in professional education and clinical practice enables me to relate to many aspects and issues of our profession. As a delegate for the past 3 years, I have gained experience from the rich discussions that occur on the floor during past house meetings and amongst the delegates from each component. While each House of Delegates meeting results in great deliberation and decisions to aid the growth and improvement of the profession, there is more work to do. The need to always improve is why I want to be a part of this great body and take on a greater role as a Chief Delegate. I want to be part of shaping our profession's future and maximizing our contribution to healthcare. I welcome hearing your concerns and discussing the issues with you and other Pennsylvania members. I am honored to be nominated for the position of Chief Delegate and would embrace the opportunity to continue to lead our delegation.

KELLEY MORAN Activities of the House of Delegates involves year-round engagement. How would you suggest facilitating the Pennsylvania delegation's ability to be participate in the exchange of information and work of the House? I believe the Pennsylvania Delegation and our former Chief Delegates have a good system in place for encouraging year-round engagement in the work of the House using the Hub, on-line meetings, conference calls, s, and social groups to facilitate exchange of communication amongst Delegates. Where I think we may be able to improve is to include more frequent communication and inclusion of our special interest groups, districts, and all members and non-members including both PTs and PTAs, throughout the year regarding the issues being discussed on the Hub and at Caucus meetings, as well as issues our constituents are facing in their current practice settings. I believe this can be accomplished by increasing our use of social media and having our elected Delegates actively participate in district meetings on a regular basis and reporting back to the full delegation. We can incorporate use of free on- line surveys to gather opinions from our constituents on issues and share this information in appropriate forums. Given the House of Delegates is the policy and position making body of the APTA, what are some ideas you have to facilitate policy-level thinking within the delegation that may then lead to motion concept development? I believe to facilitate policy-level thinking within the delegation we need to hear the concerns and ideas of our constituents, and have discussions on how these concerns and ideas relate to improving the overall practice of physical therapy not only in our state but at the national level. I believe that we can better utilize social media and communication amongst our constituents and delegates to identify areas where policies are needed or where existing policies need to be updated to reflect where we see the future practice of physical therapy heading. I think this will be very important as both our State and the Board of Directors of the APTA are in the process of reviewing documents and current policies. We are fortunate in Pennsylvania to have many individuals with a wealth of knowledge and experience in policy- making related to our history in the state and national level who will continue to serve as mentors as we move forward. I believe we can work in collaboration with other Delegations as ideas are shared across platforms. Expanding the network for the exchange of information and ideas will be paramount in our ability to move the practice of physical therapy forward.

Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? I am both honored and humbled to have been nominated for the position of Chief Delegate for the State of Pennsylvania. If elected I promise to do my best to continue to contribute to our legacy of having a well- informed and hardworking Delegation that continues to support and advance the practice and profession of physical therapy.

CHRISTOPHER JONES As dues revenue is important to the fiscal stability of the chapter, what are some of your ideas to generate value for membership as a means to encourage and retain members? In my experience as a PT for 21 years and involved in the PPTA at the district level, I have seen that members of our profession are divided into three groups by their opinion of APTA/PPTA membership; those who see a clear benefit of membership and believe their membership is integral to being part of our profession, those who feel that APTA/PPTA does good things, but they don t see the personal benefit enough to join, and those who feel that membership is just not necessary. I feel that the board/executive committee needs to focus on the second group I listed. The avenue to approach that group is through concrete evidence of financial benefit that justifies the dues payment through benefits already offered that potential members are not aware, and pursuing other options that may create a financial benefit for potential and current members. Then, after the financial barrier to membership, the association/chapter can focus on the comprehensive benefits to members. What are some non-dues revenue strategies you might present to the board for consideration? The chapter has been successful in developing non-dues revenue with continuing education and job advertisements. I think that these two areas should be expanded on. Website advertisement has been proposed and I am in support of this. I feel that there are untapped areas of continuing education that should be pursued. Preconference course to offer before the chapter annual conference as direct revenue opportunities as well as increase conference attendance are potential areas of increased revenue. I also would suggest that the board promote the chapter conference to surrounding chapters to create revenue sharing opportunities. For example, when the conference is at 7 springs, approach the Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland chapters to market our conference to their members with a revenue sharing for any member of their respective chapters that attend. The same for New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland when hosted in the southeast region. Another avenue of revenue is through technology. Creating a Utube page with videos with members offering educational videos for sharing can create a revenue stream that could also increase web traffic to our website.

Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? My personal benefit of the chapter s attainment of the practice of direct access has led to my desire to seek the office of treasurer. In 2007 I opened a private practice, and we started treating a steadily growing number of patients under direct access. As I have become more involved in PPTA district and chapter activities over the last 5 years, I learned the process and effort required to achieve direct access for physical therapy services in PA. I realized how much my professional and personal life have been impacted by my professional organization. This filled me with a desire to get further involved and help make an impact on my profession. Through my experience in operating a business over the last ten years I have seen that there needs to be a balance between service and financial stability. The chapter has done many great things for our profession in the past, but in order to continue to fulfill the chapter s mission, the board needs to be a financial steward that balance mission fulfilment with the financial stability of the chapter for the future. I feel that my skillset makes me a good candidate for Treasurer of the PPTA.

JOHN TAWFIK As dues revenue is important to the fiscal stability of the chapter, what are some of your ideas to generate value for membership as a means to encourage and retain members? Over the last three years, PPTA has experienced reduction in membership, although the trend has seen modest reversal since the start of Considering APTA s membership growth over the same period, we certainly have room for improvement. I would advocate for continued participation in the Career Starter Dues program to enhance retention of recent graduates and new professionals. The full impact of this program may take an additional two-to-three years to be fully realized. Additionally, exploring new membership incentive programs targeted to mid-career PTs and PTAs would be warranted. These programs may include introductory access to member-only benefits and discounted conference registrations. The impact of the legislative advocacy by PPTA is often perceived to focus on specific practice setting. I would propose the Board of Directors analyze the impact of advocacy efforts on the diverse settings of our profession and clearly articulate these benefits. Review of how we currently conduct district meetings and activities or even how these districts are allocated ought to be considered from members engagement perspective. New technologies may offer us new opportunities that are meaningful in attracting and retaining members to my PPTA. What are some non-dues revenue strategies you might present to the board for consideration? Three specific strategies. I had the pleasure of serving on the finance committee over the past 3 years. One of the ideas generated from the committee is the Preferred Partner Program (PPP). It is designed to offer a tier-system for businesses and other organizations to market their products and services during conferences and within PPTA print/online publications. The greater the involvement, the greater value-purchasing they receive when compared to ala cart pricing. This program is currently underutilized and would benefit from a specific marketing plan to past and prospective partners in the state. While revenue from annual conference is the 2 nd largest source of income, it only accounts for 15% of total chapter revenue. This is compared to 70% from membership dues. Analysis of annual conference location, timing, length, educational sessions, participating clinicians representing diverse practice settings, and attraction to exhibitors should be conducted. Implement changes to annual conference with goal to increase revenue share to 20%.

PPTA enjoys healthy level of Reserves (nearly 65%). With this favorable financial position, PPTA should invest in increasing public awareness of the Physical Therapy profession. Targeted social media campaigns and enhancement to the consumerfacing segment of PPTA website are two methods to accomplish this goal. Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? First, I want to thank the Nominating Committee for the honor of being slated. I have worked with many great leaders within PPTA and APTA, many of whom I call dear friend, colleagues, and certainly mentors shaping my professional career. I would like the pleasure to serve as PPTA Treasurer with one keen goal in mind: the opportunity to contribute to our profession and the patients we serve for better health and human experience. While I have had the pleasure of meeting many PPTA members, some of you may be learning about my candidacy from this statement. I would like to share few of my personal traits that I believe will contribute to successful services as PPTA Treasurer. I am a listener, consensus-builder, and pragmatic. I enjoy debating issues from all sides, then taking action to fulfill the strategic mission of the organization. I am flexible and welcoming to new ideas. In a member-driven organization with many great minds, every member s opinion and new ideas should be encouraged and considered for the growth of our organization, not only those who are able to serve. I respectfully ask you for your vote. Tawfik for Treasurer!

JAMILA ABERDEEN Please describe how you, as a chapter nominating committee member, could encourage current members at the district level to consider future leadership positions. In my capacity as a committee member, I believe active participation/personal interaction, behavior modeling and mentorship of junior members would directly influence others to increase their level of participation including leadership positions. I also believe that increased focus on junior members particularly physical therapy students, would have the greatest effect on the future of our profession. By planting a seed early in the education process that the preservation of our profession is dependent on effective leadership, schools will produce not only therapists but leaders to move us forward as well. List 2 or 3 professional qualities or experiences you will bring to the Nominating Committee and how will you leverage them to create a slate of qualified candidates for PPTA offices and elected committees? I am affable, have a strong work ethic and am a team player. This will lend well to participation on a larger committee that is focused on a common goal. In my past capacity as a site lead and current capacity as a supervisor, my ability to engage others and utilize their strengths will carry-over to this position as well. I also have experience interviewing which is necessary in determining qualified candidates as well. Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? It would be an honor to serve my fellow colleagues in any capacity. I recognize the importance of ensuring good leadership particularly in this political climate which is suggesting dramatic change to the health system. I am a hard worker, an advocate for the underserved and a firm believer in the value of our profession. I am committed to working alongside like-minded individuals and identifying leadership that will ensure we are in a position to serve the public in the years ahead.

BRENDAN SULLIVAN Opening Statement In working at a hospital that continues to embrace its long history of serving the local community, I have come to appreciate the role we play in cultivating a special relationship with our patients and our community at large. We take this responsibility extremely seriously and it is both a privilege and an honor to support our community every day. Those values and beliefs reinforced daily in caring for our community, in addition to the humility of this responsibility and the dedication to our profession will be applied in the duties incumbent to membership on the Nominating Committee. List 2 or 3 professional qualities or experiences: My first eight professional years were as a Physical Therapist in the United States Army. This experience afforded me the opportunity to develop both my leadership and Physical Therapist skills. Upon transitioning to the civilian setting, I feel that I have been able to hone my leadership skills as a Lead Physical Therapist for a staff of 12 therapists and 4 administrative staff. I have truly come to appreciate the importance of understanding what motivates individuals and, more specifically, how to leverage that understanding to motivate people. It is a fascinating process and I feel that I continuously grow daily from these experiences. My 19 years of continued development as both a clinician and leader - and those lessons learned in both capacities - can be positively applied as a member of the nominating committee. How do you foresee the recruitment, engagement, and mentorship of young professionals: I am a firm believer in leading by example. In all of my responsibilities either at work, home, or in the community, I do not ask anyone to do anything that I am not willing to do myself. By actively applying this simple principle daily, I feel that this can be a positive influence on younger professionals. In addition to being a Lead Physical Therapist, I also serve as our CCCE and one of our Clinical Instructors. In this capacity, I come in contact with numerous students regularly. I hope that serving as a positive example can motivate young professionals to engage on multiple levels in their professional development, in their community, and in giving back to the profession.

JASON WOOLLARD Please describe how you, as a chapter nominating committee member, could encourage current members at the district level to consider future leadership positions. Being a faculty member at Chatham University affords me the opportunity to work with many current physical therapists who assist us as adjunct professors, guest lecturers, and lab instructors. It also allows me to teach and mentor many future physical therapists. Therefore, I interact with many excellent physical therapists and future physical therapists who could become future leaders within the physical therapy profession. As a chapter nominating committee member I would actively work to recruit excellent therapists to help lead the PPTA and APTA. List 2 or 3 professional qualities or experiences you will bring to the Nominating Committee and how will you leverage them to create a slate of qualified candidates for PPTA offices and elected committees? As mentioned previously, my experience as a faculty member at Chatham University allows me to interact with many physical therapists. I can use my relationships with this large pool of physical therapists to encourage excellent leaders to volunteer to serve in PPTA positions. I am an accountable and reliable professional who always strives to produce excellent results. Therefore, if elected to the nominating committee, I will work diligently to fulfill my responsibilities to the PPTA. I will work hard to make sure that the committee s projects are carried out correctly and with results that help to strengthen the PPTA and our profession. Is there anything else about you or your candidacy that you would like the PPTA membership to know? As a physical therapist, I have had wonderful opportunities to work in a variety of clinical settings, to perform research at a top-tier research university, and to work as a professor at a teaching-focused University. These diverse, yet inter-related experiences have allowed me to work with many excellent physical therapists and to develop strong relationships with physical therapists working in these many settings. I believe this diversity of experience makes me a good candidate for a PPTA committee and I would be honored to serve the profession as a committee member of the PPTA.
