COURSE TEACHING GUIDE: COMMUNICATION SKILLS Prerequisites: It has no established prerequisites GENERAL GOALS a) To give the student basic knowledge, theoretical and eminently practical that allow you to conveniently a clinical interview. b) Analyze the overall framework of human communication and the different care models existing in the professional-patient relationship. c) Systematize the types and phases of the interview according to the context in which it is being. d) Minimize interference present in the communication process, with special emphasis on those special or difficult situations. e) Develop social skills that characterize a good interviewer, both in the aspects that comprise the verbal communication as the non-verbal. Knowledge of the essential elements of the dental profession, including its ethical and legal responsibilities. 2. Understanding the importance of such principles for the benefit of patients, society and the profession, with special attention to professional secrecy. 3. Knowing how to identify the concerns and expectations of patients and communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing with patients, family members, the media and with other professionals. 4. Fundamental Scientific Principles of dentistry: Acquisition and critical assessment of information. 11. Understanding the basic biomedical science principles that dentistry is based on to ensure correct bucco-dental care. 12. Understanding and appreciating the structure and normal functioning of the oral cavity at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organ levels at various stages of life. 13. Understanding and recognizing the essential principles of biomaterial science in dentistry and dealing with possible allergies. 14. Knowing the general processes of disease, which include infection, inflammation, immune system disorders, degeneration, neoplasia, metabolic and genetic disorders. Academic year Gaining familiarity with some of the general pathological features of diseases and disorders that affect body systems, and specifically those affecting the mouth. 16. Understanding the fundamental principles of action, indications and the efficacy of drugs and other therapeutic interventions, knowing their contraindications, interactions, systemic effects and interactions on other organs, based on scientific evidence. 17. Understanding and appreciating the principles of ergonomics and safety at work (including cross-infection control, radiation protection, occupational and biological diseases. 18. Knowing, critically evaluating and learning how to use sources of clinical and biomedical information to obtain, organize, interpret and communicate scientific and health related information. 19. Knowing the scientific method and being able to critically assess established knowledge and new information. Being able to formulate hypotheses, collect and critically evaluate information for problem solving using the scientific method. 3. Clinical Skills: Diagnosis, prognosis and the planning of dental treatment. 20. Obtaining and preparing a medical history that contains all relevant information. 21. Knowing how to perform a complete oral examination, including the appropriate radiographical and complimenary tests, in addition to obtaining appropriate clinical references 22 Being able to develop an initial diagnosis and establish a reasoned diagnostic strategy, and being able to recognize situations that require urgent dental care. 23. Establishing the diagnosis, prognosis and appropriate treatment planning in all clinical areas of dentistry; demonstrating competence in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan development for the dental patient who requires special care, including medically compromised patients (such as those with diabetes, hypertension, immunocompromised, anticoagulants, etc.) and patients with disabilities. 24. Knowing and applying the basic treatments for the most common oral and dental diseases in patients of all ages.therapeutic procedures should be based on the concept of minimal invasion and contemplated within a holistic and integrated approach to dental treatment. 26. Knowing how to plan and carry out multidisciplinary, sequential and integrated dental treatments of limited complexity in patients of all ages, conditions and in patients requiring special care. 27. Being able to pose and suggest preventive measures appropriate to each clinical situation. 28 Gaining clinical experience under appropriate supervision. 5. Public health and health systems. 29 Recognizing the determinants of oral health in the population, including those that are genetic, lifestyle dependant, demographic, environmental, social, economic, psychological or cultural. 30. Recognizing the role of the dentist in prevention activities for protecting against oral diseases, as well as in the maintenance and promotion of health, at both the individual and community level. 31 Understanding the National Health System and the basics of health legislation, clinical management and appropriate use of health resources, and understanding the important role of the dentist in the area of Primary Health Care. Academic year SYSTEM FOR ASSESSING THE ACQUISITION OF THE COMPETENCES: GRADING Assesment Tool LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSED Allocated Percentage Attendance and participation The teacher assesses the participation, involvement and progression of acquiring knowledge and skills of the student during classroom and curriculum practices. Jobs The student, individually or in groups, made a subject of review or investigation and submits it in writing for evaluation by the teacher. Oral The student develops through an oral presentation, supported or not media, theme, or work commissioned by the teacher. At the end of exposure the teacher or the audience can ask questions. Simulations,OSCE In the simulations try to play similar situations in real life under standardized conditions, which allow the teacher to analyze the clinical skills of students in specific situations. Computer simulations are used or simulated standardized patients. You can also use the test known as Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE). Curricular practices Monitoring by the tutor of the resolution of practical exercises, case reports or problems concerning knowledge of different subjects. Theoretical examination type test: Essential for the joint evaluation, to obtain a note equivalent to Practical examination: Essential for the joint evaluation, to obtain a note equivalent to 5. Criteria for granting honors: Honor license plates may be granted to the best students, who must have obtained a minimum grade of 9. If circumstances require, may grant a special test to determine those students deserve the honors, given the limitation of 5% of the students enrolled. n second and subsequent calls may only be granted the license plate of honor that could subtract after the first call. Development of the subject in second and subsequent registrations: There will be a specific group for students who are not of first registration if you exceed the occupancy limit of the classroom and a teacher in charge of that group. The teacher in charge of this group held 6 sessions of monitoring and mentoring of 2 hours each. The powers to acquire the skills and abilities of the course will take place across all practices scheduled for the course. Each session will run the course so as to strengthen the job skills that every student needs to pass the course.
