The Stress Solution Achieving your best day, every day while strengthening the brain at the top of your game
The Stress Solution ProAttitude s training offers a solution to stress that takes you far beyond anything stress management can achieve. The solution is neuroplasticity. Not Stress Management Stress management focuses on changing your behavior; neuroplasticity focuses on changing your brain. The problem with behavioral change is that stress-provoking behaviors are often hard wired into your brain. These networks fire at a rate faster than you can catch. It's the brain directing you. You Directing Your Brain Neuroplasticity is you directing your brain to rewire through a specific shift in attitude that literally switches the brain s autopilot from one that habituates stress and anxiety to one that sustains a dynamic state of peace. The Proverbial Calm under Siege Neurologically, peace represents neural networks wiring and working together to sustain the proverbial calm under siege that enables you to see a problem fearlessly, analyze it intelligently, engage it creatively, and make the best decision. don@proattitude.com Page 1
Neuroplasticity Neuroplasticity expands higher brain structure (it s called axonal sprouting) to sustain a high level of cognitive performance, emotional stability, and interpersonal strength. Stress, on the other hand, shrinks higher brain structure (it s called synaptic pruning,) limiting the capacity to excel. Train your mind, change your brain. It's the new competitive edge. "Neuroplasticity is the most important breakthrough in our understanding of the brain in four hundred years." Norman Doige, M.D. Research Faculty Columbia University The Result This Approach Has Achieved Below are the cumulative results we have achieved over the last two years at Cisco Systems and other companies. They show that the process of change we facilitate works. In evaluations, the ProAttitude training earned an overall score of 4.91 out of a possible 5.0 on the Likert scale. 89% of people who took the training expected their productivity to increase and their stress to continue to decline. 85% expected it would lead to greater job satisfaction. Our work is based on two decades of breakthroughs in neuroscience (click for the white paper). Our founder, Don Joseph Goewey, wrote an Amazon bestselling book on the subject. He spent six years in a think tank translating the research into practical applications. Click for the ROI for implementing this process. It s significant, solving costly HR problems that hit the bottom-line. don@proattitude.com Page 2

The Training The Stress Solution course consists of an eight-part training program, coupled with individual coaching and a follow-up component. Part 1 of the training reviews the neuroscience of stress and peak performance. Part 2 builds awareness of your stress level and pattern of stress, and provides a process for transcending it. The process literally activates and strengthens the brain structure that extinguishes stress reactions. Parts 1 & 2 are presented in person by ProAttitude s founder, Don Joseph Goewey in a two and a half hour session. Parts 3 through 8 are presented weekly over six consecutive weeks in a one-hour-and- fifteen minute live webinar format. Parts 3 & 4 focus on a specific set of tools. The tools, when practiced, build the attitude that engages and expands the higher order brain function involved in sustaining peak performance. Parts 1 through 4 facilitate the internal shift that transcends stress. It is offered as a separate program via webinar or in person, either over four consecutive weeks, an hour each week or over two consecutive weeks, two hours each week. Parts 5 through 8 take people further into tapping more of the brain s potential. Part 5 delves into the neuroscience of creativity and provides simple tools that tap creative intelligence to enhance problem solving and innovation. Parts 6 & 7 involve the extension of this new attitude interpersonally, to facilitate positive, constructive relationships. Part 8 brings it all together into a single practice that enables you to sustain the change going forward. You ll also construct a personal To-Be list that conquers your To-Do list. don@proattitude.com Page 4
The Training s Agenda 1. A Brain Wired for Stress and the Attitude that Rewires It: The very serious problem of stress. The way genetics and past traumas wired your brain for stress reactions. The shift in attitude that rewires the brain. The recovery of higher brain function. 2. The Awareness that Extinguishes Stress Reactions: The two things you need to know to end stress. Determining your level of stress and uncovering your stress fingerprint. Shifting negative patterns. Understanding stress as fear and dissolving the fear at the bottom of every stress reaction. 3. First Quality of a Neuroplastic Attitude: Quietly Engaged, Fully Present: The quality of presence that transcends stress. Quieting incessant thinking. Transcending the judgmental mind. Clearing stress reactions at the point of inception. 4. Second Quality of a Neuroplastic Attitude: Calm and Clear Inside, Regardless of What's Happening Outside: Overcoming loss of control. The one thing we control completely. Immunizing against overwhelm by meeting external goals with a clear inner purpose. 5. The Creative Brain: The simple state of mind that delivers the insight that sees answers. The out-of-the-blue nature of innovation. The flow that becomes the joy of excelling. 6. Third Quality of a Neuroplastic Attitude: Connected and Connecting: Our social brain. Mirror neurons and social intelligence. The conditions for interpersonal resonance and leadership. Simple steps for remaining connected. 7. Fourth Quality of a Neuroplastic Attitude: The Whole That Transcends the Fragments: Relating to the big picture. The stress of fault-finding. Discovering your strengths and managing around weaknesses. The attitude that maximizes the strength in you and facilitates it in others. 8. Pulling It All Together: A single practice that sustains the change. A "To- Be" list that conquers the "To-Do" list. don@proattitude.com Page 5
Individual Coaching As We Go Coaching sessions range from minutes and are conducted on the phone. Coaching sessions help you: Clarify something you didn t understand during the training. Better integrate the processes and tools into your daily life. Identify and move through a stubborn pattern that has been hard for you to break. Apply the process to an actual work situation or personal issue. The Forum Afterwards Following the training, two monthly 30-minute, live web forums are offered at lunch time for you to: Ask questions. Review the tools. Share your progress and set-backs. Sustain the change you are making. don@proattitude.com Page 6
The Benefits This Course will enable you to: Heighten your awareness of the fearful thinking, negative emotion, and self-defeating attitudes that activate most stress reactions and strengthen the brain structure that can extinguish these reactions. Achieve the dynamic shift in attitude that optimizes higher order brain function to sustain peak performance. Master a set of internal tools that transcend stress and anxiety at the point of inception and restore cognitive and emotional strength. Master a set of interpersonal tools that de-stress relationships by increasing the sense of connection and interpersonal resonance. Build a consistent practice that maximizes creative intelligence, sustains a fearless self-confidence, and promotes your physical and emotional well-being. don@proattitude.com Page 7
Comments from Independent Evaluations It was one of the best trainings I've ever attended. For me the most important learning is the tools we learned how to use: the Thought Awareness, Three Ways to Stop and Stand Still, the Clear Button, and Pre-Attitude. We work in a high-pace, stressful environment at Cisco. To be able to remind myself daily that I am in control, regardless of the tasks in front of me, will make me a better employee. This training has changed my life! That sounds dramatic, but in the past few days, my whole perspective and approach has been dramatically different. I am making a conscious effort to shift my attitude and approach to all that I do. So far, it has given me such peace and hope. It is really a healing and inspiring course. I have heard many different people's approaches to stress management and actualization of total wellness, but none of them reached me the way this has. The whole thing was outstanding! Don's ability to get to the core of what, I think, all of us were struggling with, was amazing. I felt like he really understood what I was going through and was speaking to me directly. And, what he said made sense and each week I had a way to deal with life differently. Most importantly, IT MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY DAILY LIFE! The one-on-one interaction between Don and participants worked really well. It felt more connecting than other webinars and other people s stories were helpful. I was freaking out at the beginning of this webinar and had a sense of grace in my life at the end and that was because of this Webinar and the tools I learned! During the past week, my stress level has been high due to health issues. If it were not for the class, it would probably be off the chart. Utilizing the exercises actually provided a huge improvement in my stress level during this time. This course has the ability to engage us all in the formation of our best selves and to that end I hope this course flourishes in all venues. don@proattitude.com Page 8
Don Joseph Goewey Don Joseph Goewey is co-founder and managing partner of ProAttitude LLC. He has had a long career in human potential and collaborated with the two great pioneers in the field, Carl Rogers, Ph.D., the father of humanistic psychology, and Gerald Jampolsky, M.D., who founded a school of psychology based on attitude. Don has worked in some of the most stressful places on the planet, from AIDS and cancer wards to grief groups with parents who ve lost children, from Bosnian refugee camps to high pressure work environments. In an interview on NPR, Don stated, My work has taught me much about stress and more importantly about the extraordinary capacity of ordinary people to move from feeling overwhelmed by circumstances to a way of being that makes us larger than circumstances. Prior to founding ProAttitude, Don spent six years in a think tank environment connecting the breakthroughs in neuroscience with the proven approaches in other fields that could facilitate a process of neuroplastic change in the workplace. Books Don is the author of the Amazon bestseller, Mystic Cool: A proven approach to transcend stress, achieve optimal brain function, and maximize creative intelligence, and the forthcoming book, The Stress Solution." Work Previously, Don has served as executive director of Icah, which is internationally recognized for its pioneering approach to catastrophic life events. He also served as an executive at Stanford University Medical School, an administrator at San Mateo County Department of Health, and executive director of Gardner Community Health Center (aka Gardner Health Services.) don@proattitude.com Page 9
