4 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This Tech Nte prvides the steps t migrate frm and later DPA versin 5.x releases having SQL as external database t t 6.0 SP1 and later. The DPA Migratr analyzes DPA 5.x data, alerts yu t any ptential migratin issues, and prvides an estimate as t hw lng the migratin will take. The DPA Migratr enables yu t select the DPA 5.x data that yu want t migrate (yu can chse nt t migrate ld data that is n lnger f value). In additin, the DPA Migratr can be used t change the platfrm f yur DPA system. Fr example, yu can use the DPA Migratr t migrate the data frm a Windws DPA 5.x system t a Linux DPA 6.0 SP1 system. 5 STEPS TO MIGRATE FROM AND LATER DPA VERSION 5.X RELEASES HAVING SQL AS EXTERNAL DATABASE TO TO 6.0 SP1 AND LATER. Sftware Installatin Cmplete DPA 6.1 Datastre Server sftware installatin Cmplete DPA 6.1 Applicatin Server sftware installatin Install DPA Migratr Tl 1.2 n the existing DPA versin 5.x releases having SQL as external database Exprting DPA 5.x cnfiguratin settings Migrate t DPA 6.0 SP1 server and later in the same rder as explained in the fllwing sectins: On yur DPA 5.x Server, g t File > Exprt. Select All. Save the exprted.wds file n a different server as a lng-term file cpy f yur current cnfiguratin. Edit the dpa-migratin.prperties file t increase prcessing pwer, If yu have the Migratr installed n a high-spec machine with a larger number f cres than fur, the Migratr can be updated t use the prcessing pwer f all the cres and increase the migratin speed. Open the dpa-migratin.prperties file. Edit the number after wrkers = t the same number f cres in the machine n which the DPA Migratr is installed. The number yu enter shuld nt exceed the number f cres f the hst n which the DPA Migratr is installed. Migrating cnnectin settings Launch the DPA Migratr. Select Cnnectin Settings. The Cnnectin Settings must be specified s that the DPA Migratr can cnnect t the DPA 5.x and DPA 6.0 SP1 servers and later. Type the cnnectin details fr the target server fr the DPA 5.x server. Yu can leave DPA Cntrller Prt field with the default value unless yu have cnfigured a custm prt in the versin 5.x envirnment. Type the cnnectin details fr the target server fr the DPA 6.0 SP1 server and later. When migrating t a Split Installatin, specify the reslvable hstname, FQDN, r IP Address f the APPLICATION Server as the target address. Click Finish. Migrating cnfiguratin data Select Cnfiguratin Data, and then click Start Migratin. Select the cnfiguratin bjects t migrate. By default, all cnfiguratin infrmatin is migrated. There are sme interdependencies between the bjects s selecting ne bject might autmatically select anther. 5

6 The DPA Migratr analyzes the data in the cnfiguratin database and displays any items that have t be migrated manually. The utput f this analysis is saved t the dpa6migratin.lg file, which is in the same directry as the DPA Migratr. Click Next and then Start. Click Start t migrate the cnfiguratin data. The cnfiguratin data can take a while t migrate. If yu need t stp the migratin, click Stp. The migratin prcess can be restarted at any time. Only thse bjects r cmpnents that have nt been exprted are ffered fr migratin. After migratin f custm reprts, which use a database query datasurce, ensure that the queries wrk as expected. There may be cnnectin issues frm yur new DPA 6.0 SP1 server. Migrating the datamine data Nte that if yu are migrating frm a DPA 5.x server using MSSQL and Windws Authenticatin is cnfigured, yu must ensure that the migratr is running as a Windws user with SQL authenticatin. This can be the same user that is used t run the DPA 5.x services. Select Datamine Data > Start Migratin. Select the datamine data t migrate. The default settings migrate the least amunt f data. Click Test Cnnectin t verify cnnectivity. If DPA Datamine is using default Prt 1433 and n SQL Server Cnfiguratin Manager TCP Prt is nt 1433, Test Cnnectin will fail with belw errr, DPA Datamine migratin frm DPA is failing t DPA 6.1 with belw errr, Testing database cnnectin. Database Cnnectin Inf Type: MSSQLServer Server: DPA Hst Name Database: datamine Prt: 1433 Flags: 1 Unable t verify database cnnectin. The TCP/IP cnnectin t the hst <>, prt 1433 has failed. Errr: "Cnnectin refused: cnnect. Verify the cnnectin prperties, check that an instance f SQL Server is running n the hst and accepting TCP/IP cnnectins at the prt, and that n firewall is blcking TCP cnnectins t the prt.". T fix this issue, we have t perfrm belw steps, G t SQL Server Start > All Prgrams > SQL Server Cnfiguratin Manager Select DPA Datamine Instance Select TCP/IP in the right side pane Right click n it and select Prperties Scrll Dwn t IPAll, 6

7 Select TCP Prt and make a nte f prt number. G t existing DPA Server Launch DPA GUI fr existing DPA Server File > System Settings > Database Select Cnfig Database Prt and Datamine Database Prt and update it with the prt number nted at SQL Server Cnfiguratin Manager Click Apply Click OK Stp DPA services n existing DPA Server Change the flder t DPA installatin flder. Open cntrller.xml file with ntepad and validate that the prt is updated with the prt number nted at SQL Server Cnfiguratin Manager Start DPA services n existing DPA Server Launch DPA GUI fr existing DPA Server File > System Settings > Database Validate that the prt is updated fr DPA Database. Click Test Cnnectin t verify cnnectivity. When the cnnectin is verified, click Next. Click Start t begin the migratin analysis. The DPA Migratr analyzes the data in the datamine and displays the results. This analysis, which culd take up t an hur, examines the datamine data and generates the migratin jbs that the DPA Migratr will use internally t migrate the datamine data. At the end f the analysis, an estimate f hw lng the migratin will take is prvided. This is a rugh estimate nly and can fluctuate as the migratin takes place. Click Next and Start. The datamine data migratin prcess is started. Migrating the datamine data takes time. Very large DPA 5.x datamines culd take days t migrate. Yu can stp and restart the migratin prcess at any time. Click Next and Finish. Migrating Replicatin Analysis data Select Migrate Replicatin Analysis Data. Select the Replicatin Analysis data t migrate. Click Start. Click Finish. Verifying data Lg in t the DPA web cnsle and inspect the migrated data. Verify that all bjects are crrectly migrated, including that scheduled reprts are being ed and alerts being generated, 7

8 Rerunning the migratr t check fr new data Rerun the DPA Migratr t check fr new data gathered by the DPA 5.x system while the initial migratin and verificatin was taking place. If new data is detected, fllw the wizard t update DPA 6.0 SP1. Redirecting existing 5.x cllectrs t the new server n 6.0 SP1and later Althugh DPA and later Cllectrs are cmpatible with DPA 6.0 SP1 and later, lder Cllectrs may nt supprt mre recent versins and functinality f mnitred sftware and devices. The DPA Sftware Cmpatibility Guide prvides infrmatin abut supprted functinality and patches required fr mnitring f functinality. 8
