Ideas for the operational and financial sustainability of the network after 2019 At the beginning of the Regional Meeting BT gave short info on the participation of the associate partners: All the associate partners were invited to participate the meeting. Dr.Mahjoub from of Sousse could not participate due to past-away of his father. Prof.Dachour from Morocco, Prof. Ayed from Al Balqa and Dr. Rasha El Gohary from Egypt cancelled their participation due to personal unavailability. Prof.Abuhashim from Zagazig was the only associate partner who participated the regional meeting. For the potential supervisor in TUBS, Prof.Haarstrick will be contacted Teacher Exchange In framework of the teacher exchange activity, Prof. Hassan from Ain Shams and Prof.Abdel Khaleik President of the Mansoura will be hosted by NE, Konya and TUBS respectively, each for two weeks. A trip to Al-Zatari refugee camp was also conducted. During this trip the water-waste water as well as waste management was the main issues of interest.

3 1.2 Summer school in Istanbul The summer school on Water Management for Coastal Communities will be organized during and in Istanbul by TUBITAK MAM (Dr.Selma Ayaz, Dr.Burcu Uyuşur and Dr.Ahmet Baban). Target Audience: The participants expected are preferably advanced master students, PhD students, postdocs interested in acquiring knowledge and competence in wastewater management. Number of participants: The number of participants is limited to 19. Candidates from the SWINDON/exceed partner universities are to be given first priority. The participants expected are preferably advanced master students, PhD students, postdocs interested in acquiring knowledge and competence in water- and waste water management in coastal communities. Tentative Program: Sunday ARRIVAL Monday Lectures Oral presentation of participants Tuesday Lectures Oral presentation of participants Wednesday Oral presentation of participants Thursday Working Groups Friday Field trip Saturday Sightseeing in Istanbul Sunday DEPARTURES The flyer will be prepared by the colleagues in TUBITAK-MAM and announced soon. 1.3 Expert groups BT informed the participants on the Expert Database which is currently under construction. The representative colleagues from the partner institutions will collect the CV s of the experts. The full names of the experts should be listed according to the subtopics and send to RC ASAP. 1.4 Joint research proposal The participants are informed on the Octopus Joint Research Proposal 1.5 Publications BT informed the participants to send the details of the publications conducted till now. 1.6 Visibility of the project Visibility of the project is important. It is asked to establish a link to Exceed-Swindon website from the web sites of the partner institutions. In addition it is asked all kind of reflections in the press and send to RC and TUBS.

4 2. Planning of the activities 2017 For the year 2017, one Expert Workshop, 1-2 Regional Meetings, 5-7 student exchanges, 2 teacher exchanges and 2 coordination trips are foreseen. The organization will take place in Cairo during March. The World Water Day on 23 th March will be also celebrated. The main topic will be Solutions to Challenges. The flyer will be prepared and send to RC & TUBS before announcement.

5 It is proposed to organize an additional Regional Meeting. Ms.Cara Transfeld informed that according to the budget it is possible to finance 8 participants for 4 days. This will be decided during the first regional meeting. 2.3 Joint research proposals For the year 2017 a new joint research proposal is needed. The issue is discussed and following tentative topics were selected: Climate change & conjunctive use of GW and surface water under the influence of land use change Ahmet Doğan, M. Abuhashim, Climate change & salt tolerant agricultural practices & reforestation of arid areas for CO2 sequestration Anwar Jiries, M. Abuhashim, Zainab Abu El Naga, Bourhane Mahjoub The responsible colleagues are asked to prepare the project outlines till 30 June The deadline for submission to TUBS-HQ is the 15 th of September Discussion on Impact model Cara Transfeld informed the participants about the impact model relevant for the project and asked for their contributions. 4. Ideas for the operational and financial sustainability of the network after 2019 BT informed the participants on the Mevlana Program of Turkish Higher Education Council: The Mevlana Exchange Program aims to facilitate the exchange of students and academic staff members between Turkish higher education institutions and the higher education institutions of other countries. Any student may benefit from Mevlana Exchange Program if they are registered on a formal education program at a higher education institution in Turkey, on condition that the higher education institution concerned has signed a bilateral Mevlana Exchange Protocol. The Program is also open to all academic staff members who are employed by a national or foreign higher education institution, on condition that the higher education institution concerned has signed a bilateral Mevlana Exchange Protocol. The Mevlana Exchange Protocols for cooperation between Akdeniz and Ain Shams, Mansoura, of Jordan, Mutah, of Sousse, and King Hassan Universities are pre-signed by the Rector of Akdeniz and distributed in two copies to the respective partners. After signing and returning one copy back to AU the protocols will be valid for 5 years from the beginning of 2016/2017 Winter. The same procedure can be applied between Necmettin Erbakan and Yildiz Universities and the partner institutions in the MENA region. In case of acceptance of the protocols by the partners it can be an additional resource for exchange activities and can contribute to the sustainability of the network within the region beyond Details of the exchange program are given in the Figures below:
