4 MISSION & GOALS a) Conduct religious services for the Muslim community, b) Strengthen unity among Muslims in BCS and surrounding areas, c) Serve Muslims of all ages and help to develop their Islamic identity d) Present Islam to our neighbors, and promote good relations and understanding with them
5 TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS & STAFF DRIVE PROGRAMS Accomplishing our mission and goals critically depend upon our volunteers and staff. Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to the people
6 BEGINNING THE YEAR WITH STRATEGY To bring more focus and a strategic lens to the work of the Board, we invited strategy consultant and Aggie Alum Dr. Iqbal Latheef to facilitate and guide the board in developing strategic priorities for ICBCS.
7 STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR ICBCS Grow Regular Streams of Income Institute Formal Planning Improve Programming in Youth & Outreach Attract & Retain Talent Improve Facilities These are strategies for the next 2-3 years as we continue to build key elements of the organization specifically money, strategy, staff

13 YOUTH CHALLENGES FAITH & SPIRITUALITY MENTAL HEALTH IDENTITY GENDER RELATIONS ONLINE Do I want to be Muslim? Lack of religious literacy Depression/Anxiety Stigma in family / community Muslim in a non- Muslim society Culture: Immigrant vs. American LGBTQ Sexual Activity Social Pressure (dances, boy/girlfriend) Pornography Sexting SUBSTANCE ABUSE FAMILY SCHOOL TROUBLE COMM INVOLVEMENT Illegal/Legal drugs Alcohol Tobacco Abuse (Physical, Verbal, Sexual) Conflict with parents Conflict between parents Anti-Muslim Rhetoric Bullying Not active and involved Only small percentage participate We emphasized the importance of distinguishing between visible and hidden challenges struggles youth endure that may or may not be apparent to us.
14 PRIORITIZING YOUTH CHALLENGES The top 3 ranked challenges: Faith & Spirituality Family Community Involvement Much discussion revolved around which challenges are roots and which are branches/symptoms. It was broadly agreed that these 3 challenges form primary issues and addressing these would help resolve others (drugs, online activity, etc.). Faith Family Community Accordingly, we followed a framework of Faith, Family, and Community to further explore solutions to the other challenges.
15 SUMMARY OF OUTCOMES Initiate New Programs Parent-Youth Anonymous Forum (Held on Dec 8) Parenting Idea Exchange Group (Monthly) Parenting Workshop with Expert Guests (Held Mar 23-24) Anonymous Q/A with Imam and Youth Social events for families and youth/kids to come together (day trips, camps, etc.) Revamp Existing Programs Revisit Youth Halqa consider changing format to include social, service, and youth-led components Bi-weekly diverse dynamic programming
