2 Distinguished Guest and Colleagues It is my pleasure to welcome you at the Tenth Annual Scientific Meeting on Hepatogastroenterology of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute in collaboration with Beaujon Hospital, France. We highly appreciate and cherish this excellent scientific cooperation with Beaujon Hospital and its role in helping scientific progress. Through the agreement between our institutions, we managed several scientific projects and training for young doctors in the prestigious departments of Beaujon Hospital. We are sure that the program of our meeting will enrich the knowledge of hepatogastroenterologists regarding the care and management of patients. We are very lucky to have been able to bring together an eminent panel of international experts from France and Egypt who are dedicated to promoting all aspects of hepatogastroenterology. It is my pleasure to welcome and thank our eminent guests from France and Egypt. Special thanks to Professor Philippe Ruszniewski, the French coordinator of the agreement, who has helped to maintain this fruitful cooperation from its beginning to the present time, also I want to thank Professor Ahmed El Ray the Egyptian coordinator of the agreement for his continuous effort to maintain the agreement and precious scientific meetings. Our meeting has been granted 6 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), denoting the quality of the program and the expertise of the speakers. The one-day meeting will comprise two sessions, and for the first time a video transmission of the workshop on EUS that has taken place at TBRI. I invite you all to contribute to this meeting by sharing your professional experience, as only with your participation this meeting can reach its goal. 6 Invited Guests & Faculty Members Professor Philippe RUSZNIEWSKI works currently in the Department of Gastroenterology- Pancreatology in Beaujon s Hospital, Clichy, France. He was also responsible for the Pole of Liver, Digestive and Pancreatic Diseases located in Beaujon, Bichat and Louis-Mourier Hospitals. He is Professor of Gastroenterology at University Paris 7, Denis-Diderot, and is Dean of Paris Diderot Medicine Faculty since July His main areas of interest are digestive neuroendocrine tumours and pancreatic diseases (mainly pancreatic cancer, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, acute and chronic pancreatitis). He has published 380 papers in international Journals and serves as a reviewer for leading journals in gastroenterology. He is past President of the French Society of Gastroenterology, and a member of numerous societies in the field of Gastroenterology, Pancreatology and Digestive Oncology. While he served as President of the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) between 2010 and 2012, then Vice-Chairman, he is currenly a member of ENETS Advisory Board. Professor Patrick MARCELLIN Professor of Hepatology, University of Paris. Patrick Marcellin is Professor of Hepatology at the University of Paris and Head of the Viral Hepatitis Research Unit in Hôpital Beaujon, Clichy. He earned his medical degree from the University of Paris and undertook postgraduate training in both internal medicine and gastroenterology-hepatology at the Assistance Publique- Hôpitaux de Paris. Professor Marcellin completed research fellowships in immunology (College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, New York City, USA) and virology (Institut Pasteur, Paris). He also holds a PhD in virology. Since 1984, he has been actively involved in laboratory and clinical research on viral hepatitis and liver diseases. His major focus has been on viral hepatitis therapy, and as such he has been the principal investigator on initial trials of first interferons and antivirals and on several pivotal studies investigating therapies for chronic hepatitis B and C. Professor Marcellin was a member of the Scientific Committee of EASL and organised the EASL Consensus Conference on Hepatitis C in 1999 and the EASL Consensus Conference on Hepatitis B in He was the Chairman of the panel on the 2009 EASL hepatitis B guidelines. He has been the Founder and President of the French National Hepatitis Network. He is the President of APHC (Association for the Promotion of Hepatologic Care) that has organised the Annual Paris Hepatitis Conference for the last 10 years. 7 Dr. Laurent PALAZZO Gastroentérologist and endoscopist specialized in EUS and in pancreatology, working at Trocadero Clinic in Paris. His main areas of interest is pancreatic tumors (solid and cyst), autoimmune pancreatitis, obstructive jaundice, submucosal tumors of the digestive tract and digestive endometriosis. He has published 180 papers in international journals including NEJM, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, GIE and Endoscopy and serves as reviewer for leading journals in gastroenterology. He is past president of the French Society of Gastroenterology and past president of the French Society of Endoscopy. He was editor of 4 books including Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in practice and 40 book chapters. He gave 350 invited lectures in all over the world during the last 30 years. Professor Valerie PARADIS Professor in Pathology, is the chairman of Pathology depatrment (Beaujon hopsital) and leader of the INSERM team From inflammation to cancer in digestive diseases (INSERM 1149 Paris). Fields of interest and research include pathological and molecular aspects of liver fibrosis and tumors (benign and malignant) with a specific interest of hepatocellular carcinomas developed in patients with metabolic syndrome. Her team has developed original in situ proteomic approach (MALDI imaging) for identification of tissue biomarkers, and ex vivo culture model of human tumor slices for evaluation of therapeutic molecules. V. Paradis is involved in educational activities, chairing the specialty Epithelium: interface structure (Master 2 Cellular biology-physiology-pathology ). She is cocoordinator of the DHU UNITY Unmet Needs for Innovation in HepaTology and GastroenterlogY (Coordinator Pr DC Valla) and task leader (WP2: cross sectional clinical study)) of the RHU QUID-NASH (coordinator Pr DC Valla) aiming to identify novative noninvasive diagnostic markers of NASH in diabetic patients. Professor Imam WAKED Professor of Medicine and Hepatology, (MD, FRCP, FAASLD) Dean Emeritus of the National Liver Institute (NLI) in Egypt. Dr. Waked graduated Cairo University School of Medicine, obtained a Doctorate degree from Ain Shams University, and trained in the liver unit of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was recently elected as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London. Dr. Waked has more than 90 peer-reviewed publications in international and local journals, and is a member of the international advisory board of The Lancet GH. He supervised more than 80 Masters and Doctorate theses in hepatology and medicine. Currently he heads the clinical trials unit of the NLI, and is a principle investigator in several clinical trials for HCV treatment and HCC management. He is a member of the Egyptian National Committee for Viral Hepatitis that oversees the Egyptian National program for management of hepatitis C. His fields of interest are acute and chronic hepatitis C and related liver cancer, and portal hypertension and its complications.

Consultant in Endoscopy and Abdominal sonography with special interest in Endoscopic Ultrasonography and Interventional sonography. Professor Ahmed SADEK Professor of Hepatogastroenterology and Tropical Medicine, Theodor Bilharz research institute. Head of the Heapatogastroenterology Dpt ( ) and Head of the clinical department 2011 to His main interest are in Ultrasound, ERCP and EUS. Professor Sameh FAKHRY is a Professor of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy in Theodore Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI), Cairo, Egypt. He is also part time professor in the department of Internal Medicine and director of Endoscopy Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST). He finished his medical education, Master and Doctorate degree in the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. He received fellowshiptraining in the field of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy in USA in the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; Duke University, North Carolina; Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. During his medical carrier he was involved in patient care, performing diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures including ERCP, Clinical teaching to both undergraduates and postgraduates, training GI endoscopic procedures; Principal investigator and member in many research projects. He supervised many master and Ph. D thesis and have more than 50 scientific publications in different fields. He is international member in the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (FASGE) beside other National, Arabic and African Societies in the field. He finished recently, May 2017 a Master Degree in Management (International Masters In Health Care Leadership) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

He served in a EUS fellowship in Bezmialem Vakif University, Istanbul, Turkey. Training program director at the Endoscopy Unit of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute.
