Exercise has many benefits but if you have not be physically active for a period of time, talk to your health care provider about any health concerns you may have before you get started. ometimes, just talking to your doctor about your plans will be just the motivation you need to get moving! Benefits of Physical Activity here are many benefits to being active on a regular basis. hese include: Helps your body keep a healthy weight Lowers the risk of heart disease Lowers the risk of some cancers, specifically breast cancer and colon cancer Lowers stress levels and improves mental health Lowers the risk of diabetes Finding the Fun in Fitness ometimes it is as easy as thinking of something that you already like to do and work to add some extra activity to it. Do you like to watch V? You could march in place during the commercials or use canned goods as weights. If you like to spend time with your family, you can pick activities that you can do together. he whole family may be able to play games like freeze tag and obstacle courses. Or, if the weather is nice, the whole family can go for a hike or walk together. After discovering the field of dietetics during her undergraduate work in ewanee, ennessee she transferred to the University of Kentucky for her Bachelors in Dietetics. he is now hoping to become a Registered Dietitian working with children and families. Her past experiences include a research internship at Hospital Vall de Hebron in Barcelona, pain, assisting in foodservice and systems management at he Cathedral Domain Camp and Conference Center and working with families through the YMCA of Central Kentucky. Emily is very excited to be in Boyd County and assist the Cooperative Extension in impacting the overall health and well-being of the community. 2 HOMEMAKER MAER KEHA cholarships KEHA provides two educational scholarship programs KEHA tate Board Elections KEHA will be seeking candidates for five state board positions in Please encourage your leaders to consider the positions listed below. 1 st Vice President reasurer Environment, Housing and Energy Chairman Food, Nutrition and Health Chairman Leadership Development Chairman Duties for all positions are detailed in the KEHA Bylaws, and job descriptions are posted on the KEHA website. Credential forms are found in the KEHA Manual Appendix pages 6 & 7 for state educational chairmen and pages 8 & 9 for state officers. January 2017 February 2017 M W F M W F January 26 6 PM Needle Art Group, Extension Office (see page 4) February 6 4:30 PM District Board meeting, Extension Office January 31 10:30 AM tand Up to Falling, Boyd County r Center 5 WEEK PROGRAM (February 7, 14, 28, March 7) tand Up to Falling introduces the seriousness and consequences of falling, especially for adults age 65 and older. he program highlights four preventable risk factors: lack of exercise, unsafe home environments, vision problems, and medication usage. When these risk factors are properly addressed, the likelihood of falling can be lowered and even prevented. his program also provides a brief introduction into an Extension supported fall prevention program, A Matter of Balance, which prepares the mind and body for exercises designed to prevent falls and the fear of falling. Lastly, tand Up to Falling calls attention to the appropriate actions that should take place if a fall occurs.
