1 Newsletter Family and Consumer Sciences Hart County, Kentucky September 28, 2017 Edition 7 Volume 1 Janey s Notes Alzheimer s affects many families but few are able to recognize the symptoms in the early stages. Join me for two sessions the first being Brain Basics on October 4 th from 11:00 am 12:00 pm and the second Know the 10 Signs on November 9 th time to be determined. A question and answer session with a range of dementia care experts will also be held on October 26 th at 5:30 pm. All sessions will be held at the Hart County Extension office. The topic for the Garden Club meeting in October will be on growing herbs indoors. To go along with this topic, I will be teaching a class on How to Cook with Herbs. The cooking portion of the meeting will start at 4:30 pm and the growing herbs session taught by Chris Clark will begin at 6:00 pm on October 24 th. Amber and I will once again be having the Truth or Consequences session for the high school students. We are in real need of volunteers to walk students around. If you can help with this program please let us know. We are in the third week of a Healthier You series on Mondays at 11:30 am. Monday, October 2 nd will be the last day to join the series. If you are interested in improving your overall health please come out and join us. I also want to invite you to join Felicia Davenport s Healthy Living exercise class on Mondays at 1:00. Felicia does a wonderful job of getting you fit while improving your social wellbeing. To be in compliance with the Constitution of the Hart County Homemakers, Barbara Kessler, Vice President for Programs, has graciously agreed to step up to assume the President s role during the illness of Darlene Kersey s husband. 2 Homemaker Happenings Dates to Remember The President's Corner Hello, we have several events coming up over the next few months that I would encourage everyone to attend. On Thursday October 5 th we will have our New Member s Tea. This will be held at the Extension office at 4:00 pm. To give our new members a sample of the beneficial programming they will be a part of Tracy Cowles, Butler County s FCS agent will be presenting on the history of teas. Please turn in the names of new members to the Extension office by Wednesday, October 4 th and make plans to attend to support our new members. A Leader Training will be held on October 31 st from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at the Country Girl at Heart Bed and Breakfast. This event is for all club and county officers and chairman. The main purpose of this event is to identify needs within our community, learn how our office or chairmanship is to play into this role, and how we need to report our efforts. Among our guest will be Judge Executive Terry Martin, Mammoth Cave Area President, Loretta Lyons, and a UK representative. Please make an extra effort to attend so Hart County Homemakers are well represented. The cost for lunch will be $ Please RSVP by October 13 th. At the last council meeting the decision was made to do activities with the residents of Signature Health Care in Horse Cave on the first Friday of every month at 2:00 pm.
