1 February 13, 2019 Dear Member, Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) would like to thank you for your dedicated and diligent work providing care in your community. We trust you find value in your organization s membership with HPCO and that our programs and member services benefit your work. Your organizational membership with HPCO expires on March 31 st. We invite you today to renew your membership. Providing value to our members is HPCO s priority. In 2018, 70% of hospices responded to our member satisfaction survey. We found that 88% of respondents placed high or extremely high overall value on their HPCO membership. The respondents valued HPCO s core programs as very or extremely helpful as follows: The Annual Conference 81% Communities of Practice/Interest Groups 71% Public policy and advocacy work 91% Media advisories and issue alerts 84% Hospice Metrics Platform 75% Hospice Standards & Accreditation Process 85% Volunteer Training 82% Highlights of 2018 include: Successfully advocating for a funding increase for Visiting Hospice Services. A very successful Queen s Park Day, engaging over 50 MPPs. With hospice representatives from across Ontario, the unified voice and messaging had a positive impact. In December, the government confirmed funding for 193 new Residential Hospice beds and continuation of the Residential Hospice capital program. The Hospice Metrics platform provided excellent data on client satisfaction for all hospice services and on admission details for Residential Hospices. The data is used to demonstrate to government, the value and impact of community based hospice care. Currently, 1/3 of Visiting Hospices are using the platform and onboarding hospices continues. Residential Hospices are using the Metrics Platform to report year end statistics. The 2018 Annual Conference was well received and 97% of surveyed delegates said the conference met or exceeded their expectations. 26 hospice sites are accredited by HPCO under the new accreditation program and 20 more are enrolled. New role specific interest groups were added for Residential Hospice Clinical Leads; Grief and Bereavement; Coordinator of Volunteers; and a group for organizations building new Residential Hospices. A new Community of Practice for Fund Development launched in January with 42 members. Over 240 hospice staff are engaged in interest groups and the new Fund Development Community of Practice. HPCO s Online Hospice Volunteer Training platform continues to be well utilized by members. In 2018, over 1,841 hospice volunteers were registered by local hospices. HPCO paid $55,230 in user license fees for these volunteers through fundraising and our partnership with Saint Elizabeth. 2 There is significant change underway in the health care sector as a result of the election and a new government. The hallmark of Ontario s community hospice palliative care sector is quality, desirability and affordability. This is thanks to members like you who have upheld HPCO s stringent standards of care, and worked together through HPCO to compile valuable data to inform needs and policy, all the while staying strongly rooted in and responsive to your communities. HPCO continues to advocate on your behalf and work with sector partners to improve access to quality hospice palliative care. In , we will continue to focus on providing high value services and support to hospices across Ontario. Here are just a few highlights for the coming year: Continued public policy advocacy on behalf of our members, emphasizing the important role hospices have in ending hallway medicine through high quality, efficient care. Continued advocacy for hospice funding to support more equitable access and sustainability. Continued development of the hospice metrics platform for Residential Hospices and outreach/shared care teams. Regional one day conferences planned for Collingwood and Peterborough. Webinars on a range of topics. Continued enhancements to the Standards and Accreditation program. A new accreditation tool and online template to help you plan ahead and streamline your HPCO accreditation process and documentation. New caregiver training and education resources launching at the end of February For , there is a modest fee increase. Member services and public policy work has increased significantly, based on demand from member organizations, but fee have not increase since The modest increase will help maintain the services hospices organizations tell us are important. Your membership fees will help support HPCO s ability to advocate on your behalf; work to expand hospice services, improve access, and ensure sustainability; and to support your hospice in the delivery of high quality hospice palliative care to individuals, their families, and caregivers. In the attached membership package, you will find more details on our member benefits, including discounts offered by HPCO s preferred vendors, and a fillable organizational membership form. Please note, that for annual expenditure, please use the amount on Line 5100 Total Expenditure on your T3010 filing to the Canada Revenue Agency. Hospice Palliative Care Ontario looks forward to working with you and on your behalf in striving for a future where every person in Ontario has access to quality, compassionate palliative care.
