From 2010 I have participated in regional and national managerial roles including: (1) ABN neuroinflammatory committee; (2) Nervous systems disorders CLRN lead for Surrey and Sussex and (3) Neurological Lead for Long Term Conditions for the South East Coast Strategic Clinical Network (see Managerial roles above). 3 excellence award merit points in Teaching Co-written an international e-learning module on neurological complications of rheumatological disorders as part of the Joint Neurosciences Council e-brain project. Lectures to third and fourth year Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) students on neuroinflammatory disorders several times per year and bedside clinical neurology teaching to fourth year BSMS students. These include the Kent, Surrey and Sussex neuroscience teaching days, regional neurology courses for general practitioners and talks to patient groups and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Further over the past two years I have regularly presented to PCT/commissioning groups and on behalf of the regional strategic clinical network regarding service redesign and development for multiple sclerosis in the region. In addition from 2010 I have organised with industry support regular MS study evenings per year within Sussex open to all health professionals involved in the care of multiple sclerosis and to those people involved in commissioning services. The last meeting was in December Approximately 30 people have attended each meeting and it has received extremely positive feedback in the past. As part of this I have been involved in NICE scoping meetings and technical appraisals, formulated quality standards for MS care, advised on ABN policy to issues relating to MS and currently as part of the committee developing new treatment guidelines for the use of disease modifying therapies in MS. Medical advisor to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Regularly assist the society in developing guidelines and policy decsions and response to NICE technical appraisals. Member of the James Lind Alliance priority setting partnership steering group Identified top ten prioritisation of research needs for people with MS in Clinical Supervisor to a clinical research registrar (Dr Jamie Campbell) undertaking a MD at the University of Sussex MD project investigating cognitive deficits secondary to multiple sclerosis and how cognitive rehabilitation may influence cognitive outcome and pathophysiology. Principle investigator several multiple sclerosis clinical trials Since 2010 working with a number of pharmaceutical companies providing the opportunity for people with MS regionally to potentially access new therapies for their condition. Career development: I was appointed to a substantive consultant post on the 24th November 2008 at the regional neuroscience centre for Sussex. I see myself as hard-working and progressive in my outlook. I believe that by fostering good relationships with fellow professionals you can reap rewards. I recognise the importance of planning for the future and looking at different ways to promote service enhancement and responsiveness. From this I have in what I believe to be a short space of time developed a comprehensive regional specialist service in multiple sclerosis that has proved popular with people with the condition and also has been cost effective. I feel one of my strengths is with working with fellow professionals and achieving shared goals.
