This is an ambitious task, but we believe that by guiding doctors, individually, through a progressive and interactive learning experience, real clinical changes can result. 05. Financials 01. 3 01. Introduction Transformational in medical education flows from interprofessionalism, digitallive combined instructional formats and a focus on achieving specific learning outcomes. But above all, medical education is an open dialogue guided by experts and perpetuated among peers. EXCEMED crystallized these concepts in with its Blended Journey, available within the Foundation s website. Now each doctor can complete a personalized and progressive live and digital learning experience spread out over six to eight months. High-impact medical education depends on a global network of high-impact experts. Having strong relationships with international experts is a key ingredient for developing an informed view of local, regional and international knowledge gaps. EXCEMED worked proactively to highlight the visions of international and 4 local experts in different fields of medicine over the past year, reaching doctors in targeted regional niches. Independent medical education drives healthcare forward, delivering results to people who need it most: patients. EXCEMED is proud of its activities of the past year which were conducted in the spirit of physician empowerment for the betterment of patients. Impressive goals require precise ways of evaluating outcomes. Our Effectiveness Programme took a major step forward in, in effect becoming a system to monitor how EXCEMED initiatives impact patients. This is what we are referring to when we talk about outcomes-based medical education: inspiring changes in clinical practice as well as monitoring how patients have improved as a result. For example, our post-event and three-month follow-up surveys now inquire about adherence to treatment, health-related quality of life, treatment safety, side effects reduction, communicating with patients and families, prevention, and more. EXCEMED encourages doctors to think broadly about how learning objectives fit into daily practice and then observe the results after implementing educated changes. From filling knowledge gaps to improving clinical practice among doctors worldwide: EXCEMED displayed its unwavering commitment in to delivering the Transformational experiences that are required for changing practice and making a difference in the lives of patients and their families. EXCEMED scored a 90% confirmed Change in Practice among learners across medical disciplines in. 5

4 02. Featured accomplish ments 6 The White Paper: mapping a transformational future for medical education Part organizational roadmap, part blueprint for success, the EXCE- MED White Paper elaborates the philosophy of Transformational Education focussing on the Learner and the Outcomes they can affect. The paper, authored in, highlights an approach that combines medical expertise with practice-based learning as well as interpersonal and communication skills. The paper discusses how the principles and methodologies of Transformational Education which are already being applied in the United States must be expanded and adapted to the needs of learners outside the US. With over four decades of experience as a global medical education provider, EXCEMED has consistently strived to anticipate changes and trends in medical education so as to be at the forefront of its evolution; the White Paper emphasizes the unique ways the Foundation strives to accomplish this goal. 7

5 Taking blended medical education to the next level Clear and measurable benefits for patients Interprofessionalism: a big piece of the treatment puzzle EXCEMED uses creative and adaptive learning formats to maximize engagement before, during and after live interventions. This approach evolved into the Blended Journey model which came to fruition in, offering doctors an interactive portal to digital resources complimenting what is offered during an on-site experience. The Journey allows doctors to progressively engage with learning experiences at their own pace prior to and after a live scientific programme. Each doctor moves within their own private pathway containing online tutorials, access to a professional network of peers and a quick assessment of knowledge. In this way, doctors arrive at a live intervention already equipped with a sturdy foundation of knowledge - built on interactive digital learning - and are taught by expert faculty who have already identified their knowledge gaps. A Blended Journey can extend over a period of six months to a year, all the time reinforcing content from different angles, using different modes of delivery. The foundation of our outcomes-based approach is in assessing changes in performance and patient outcomes rather than only measuring knowledge after a learning experience. We are clear about what we want doctors to achieve: improved care for patients.the EXCE- MED Effectiveness Programme, or E-LEP, tracks the experience of doctors before, during and after their Journey. Each EXCEMED Journey declares specific objectives for participants that focus on increasing competence, knowledge and - most importantly - provoking changes in practice. In, the E-LEP surveys and reports system became fully operational, giving powerful insight into the real-world impact of EXCEMED programmes. Here s a sample of change in practice data: 95% of surveyed doctors declaredred they would make change to clinical practice immediately after attending From poor response to low prognosis concept: The new POSEIDON criteria (October, Athens, Greece). Three months later, 83% had implemented changes. 100% of surveyed doctors agreed to make specific changes in practice after attending Hot topics in cardiometabolism: an interactive update (July, Bogotà, Colombia). Three months later, 100% implemented changes. 92% of surveyed doctors committed to changes in practice after attending the 1st interactive practice course in MS advanced management (December, Toronto, Canada). Three months later, 78% had implemented changes. The growing demand for individualized patient care translates to the need to improve interprofessional collaboration in the clinical setting. Optimal healthcare comes from effective interprofessional dynamics. Interdisciplinarity is therefore a key component of every EXCEMED educational programme and a Guiding Principle of the Transformational model. Independent medical education opens the conversation among diverse specialties and professions, creating opportunities for changes in clinical practice. Depending on the medical condition and its management, activities are designed with mixed target audiences in mind, including: scientists, academics, general practitioners, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and others. EXCEMED developed its own Train-The-Trainer (TTT) course in to enrich high-level oncologists on the multidisciplinary cancer care model. The programme covered how to overcome challenges and critical issues in communication among specialists, medico-legal implications of an interprofessional approach to cancer care, the cost effectiveness of cancer care, patient perspectives, cultural considerations and much more. The TTT model is intended for a small group of high-level professionals who want to strengthen their own abilities, exchange knowledge with peers from other parts of the world, and transfer new skills to colleagues in their local clinical context. 8 9

8 Satisfaction The EXCEMED mix of traditional adult learning methodologies are married with emerging trends, making each scientific programme more sustainable.sustainable learning is impactful, gives measurable results and is passed on by doctors to their peers at hospitals and universities around the world. 94% Percentage change in knowledge, competence and practice across medical specialties in * in knowledge in competence Change in practice Overall event satisfaction across medical specialties ENDOCRINOLOGY & GENERAL MEDICINE NEUROLOGY 22% 21% 59% 110% 96% 86% satisfaction across ONCOLOGY 11% 42% 100% medical specialties REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE 21% 123% 87% 92% 90% 93% 98% 97% Overall event satisfaction objectives met Unbiased rate Benefit to patients Recommend programme 14 Effectiveness The EXCEMED Effectiveness Programme (E-LEP) collects data from doctors before, immediately after a learning experience and then three months later. Across these intervals, doctors make a commitment to changing particular aspects of their practice and follow-up to declare whether they have in fact affected changes, and if so, how their patients have benefited. Proposed changes in practice are always in line with the Objectives of our scientific programmes. EXCEMED scored a 90% confirmed Change in Practice among learners across medical disciplines in. We are building on our ability to help doctors make real changes that improve the lives of their patients. 15
