PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME Preceptorship on MRI in multiple sclerosis October
Dear delegate, A warm welcome to all attending the course on: Preceptorship on MRI in multiple sclerosis. I would like to inform you that as of 28 April 2014 the name of our Foundation changed to EXCEMED Excellence in Medical Education. The name change will not impact your registration status in this or any other Foundation event. This transition marks an exciting point in the evolution of the Foundation. We are proud to have provided world-class education to thousands of healthcare professionals over the past four decades - as a result, the Foundation has become synonymous with delivery excellence and highimpact CME. As we further develop our scientific and geographical presence it is important to us that our name accurately reflects the independent nature of the education we provide; EXCEMED symbolises our enduring mission to support the best possible outcomes for patients through the medical education we offer. We take pride in our complete dedication to the provision of CME - it is our sole focus and our passion. I wish you an inspiring and successful learning experience here in Milan. Yours sincerely, Rachel Clark CEO, EXCEMED 1
Aim MRI techniques are essential to making a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) especially at the very early stages of the disease. Moreover, in the everyday clinical setting MR markers are more and more crucial for treatment choice and monitoring. Innovative imaging techniques are now available enabling new insights into the pathogenesis of MS and its functional consequences. In this context, specific training is mandatory to analyze and interpret MRI findings. The live educational preceptorship will provide learners with lectures given by world renowned experts in MR in MS and hands-on training, held at the Neuroimaging and Neuroimmunology Research Unit. Learning objectives By attending this live educational course the learners will be able to: Apply MR diagnostic criteria for diagnosing MS Distinguish and rule out clinical conditions that can mimic MS at the MR scan Summarize the novel functional and structural markers of disease severity obtained by advanced MRI techniques Interpret MRI scans and estimate other relevant imaging outcomes Target audience Young clinicians and scientists currently involved in MS management and radiologists interested in MS. Accreditation An application has been made to the EACCME for CME accreditation of the EXCEMED course Preceptorship on MRI in multiple sclerosis to be held on October 2014 in. EXCEMED adheres to the principles of the Good CME Practice Group (gcmep). Register to EXCEMED website: follow us on EXCEMED_Neuro 2

EXCEMED MS Preceptorship courses, aim to update physicians about the very latest developments from leading international scientists and clinicians. EXCEMED is seeking to capture their energy and enthusiasm by creating an MS Alumni Programme a lasting community, which will continue to share ideas and best practice well into the future. Three main European MS centres will be involved in the programme: - Multiple Sclerosis Centre of Catalonia, Cemcat Barcelona, Spain - Institute of Experimental Neurology, - Valens Clinic Rehabilitation Center, Valens, Switzerland What is the MS Alumni Programme? It s a community of MS specialists committed to updating their knowledge and sharing expertise, fueled by the energy and enthusiasm of physicians who have attended EXCEMED s preceptorship courses. How to join To be part of the MS Alumni Programme you must attend one of EXCEMED's Preceptorships on MS. You are then registered as an Alumnus and receive regular updates and information from the Programme. Inspire yourself Be part of the MS Alumni Programme
Take a look at the neurology section of EXCEMED website Multiple sclerosis (MS), as a chronic neurodegenerative disease, is an area of huge medical and scientific challenge. MS has several forms and can progress in different ways. It always represents a severe burden for people affected and for their relatives. Even in the milder relapsing remitting form, the central nervous system damage progresses, both during relapses and in the asymptomatic phases, and physical and cognitive disabilities increase accordingly. For many years, there was little understanding of how best to manage this disease. Thanks to the efforts of neurologists involved in clinical practice, of geneticists, immunologists and many other scientists working in this field, new diagnostic and therapeutic tools have been developed. Since the 1990s, EXCEMED has provided MS specialists with educational activities to help improve their knowledge and share expertise. EXCEMED aims to encourage the good interaction between physicians, other health care professionals and patients, which is vital in diagnosis and treatment of MS. Success in developing educational tools for treating MS has encouraged EXCEMED to extend its work to other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson s and Alzheimer. In these fields, EXCEMED offers the same balanced and unbiased quality content. Conferences in South America and Canada have been organized, consolidating in this way, the role of EXCEMED as a worldwide medical education provider. Visit the neurology section: and register to access free e-learning activities and receive updates on new events and resources.
