3 WELCOME MESSAGE On behalf of Horizon Health Network s Centre of Excellence for Clinical Smoking Cessation (CoE), we would like to welcome everyone to the 2017 Clinical Smoking Cessation Education Forum. This year, the Forum brings together leaders from both tobacco control and tobacco cessation to share knowledge, expertise and build partnerships to support patients toward tobacco-free living. The most recent data from the Canadian Tobacco Alcohol and Drug Survey (CTADS) indicates smoking prevalence in New Brunswick has decreased from 19.6% (2012) to 14.2% (2015). Although the tobacco use prevalence for our province continues to be greater than the national average of 13% (CTADS, 2015), the decrease in our provincial prevalence is encouraging. However, tobacco addiction continues to be the leading cause of preventable disease, disability and death in North America (WHO, 2011). Jean Daigle Vice President Community Horizon Health Network Through Horizon Health Network s ongoing commitment to make smoking cessation a standard of care across the care continuum, there has been tremendous growth and success within our organization, with over 70 diverse health care settings implementing the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC). A special thank you to both the planning committee for their efforts in organizing this event and to our outstanding speakers; your willingness to share your knowledge, experience and perspectives is greatly appreciated. Finally, to all participants, thank you for your continued leadership and clinical expertise in making this a priority for our organization and patients; our collective efforts are having a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of the individuals, families and communities we serve.
