AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZED CRIME DIVISION
Presented by: Det. Duane Williams & Det. Judson Brooks APD Organized Crime Division
A large portion of the marijuana is coming in from California and Colorado. There is still a portion that is locally grown and some that is coming up from Mexico. Generally the marijuana coming in from CA and CO is a higher quality product with higher THC content. Marijuana is smoked through pipes and bongs

Generally hash is made from compressing the buds of the marijuana plant. This is done by a process of compressing and heating the product up, making it into blocks. It can also be made by extracting the actual THC oil from the marijuana plant. This will produce a thick, sticky, brown substance (dangerous). Made locally and from California THC is smoked, inhaled or mixed into various food products.

A large portion of the meth in central Texas is being brought up from Mexico. It is smuggled in it s crystal form (ice) and also in liquid form and then being salted out. Some meth is also still being made locally Meth is generally smoked or injected. Very high addiction rate

Methamphetamine is the fastest growing drug of choice around the country and the world 34.3 million abuse meth and amphetamine 14.1 million abuse cocaine 14.9 million abuse opiates United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
If you take a group of 100 people and give them methamphetamine either by smoking or injection and they use the methamphetamine two times, 90 of the 100 will become addicted to methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine addiction will last a minimum of 1 year. If you take a meth addict that wants to quit and after 11 months of not using meth, place them in a room with a hit of meth in front of them, the desire to use the meth will cause 100% of recovering addicts to relapse and to use the methamphetamine.
Most of the cocaine being brought into Central Texas is coming up from Mexico (mostly still originates from Columbia). Is used in the manufacturing of Crack Cocaine. Is usually inhaled/snorted

Crack cocaine is made from local cooks using cocaine from Mexico Sold by the rock or weight Smoked through glass or metal pipes

Black tar heroin is brought up from Mexico. It is sold as is or stepped on and turned into brown powder. Smoked or injected

Mostly coming in from Mexico (Cartels making their own brands). Some is being made locally and left in powder form (molly) Taken orally

Come from local sources and a lot from Houston. Some are from pharmacy break-ins, others from Rx fraud. Most common in this area are Oxycontin/oxycodone and Xanex. Taken orally, oxy is sometimes crushed or smoked

Products come in from all over the world, mostly China. Products come in as potpourri and the chemicals are added/sprayed on. This is done locally and in Houston in large warehouse type labs. It is then packaged and sent out for sale. smoked

Chemicals are shipped in from China. Local chemists put them together to make the final product. Bath salts are smoked, snorted and taken orally

Grown locally and in large quantities in NM. Growers get the mushroom spores from internet companies and set the grows up from those. Smoked, made into drinks

Comes from Mexico and Europe We are still seeing it on blotter paper but mostly in liquid form. Taken orally or dropped onto candy

Most of this is coming from Houston It is in liquid form and is usually added to marijuana cigarettes by dipping the joint.

Comes from local pharmacy thefts and Houston. Is in liquid form and is usually added to drinks (soda).

Krokodil-designer drug made in Russia. Is a synthetic form of heroin (mimics the high of heroin) Is cut with industrial strength cleaners or paint thinners Causes flesh to turn greenish and scaly and eventually the flesh dies off
Reports of this drug in Mexico, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Arizona and Utah Is smoked or injected

Highly addictive stimulant, alphapyrrolidinopentiophenone (alpha-pvp) Similar to cathinones (bath salts) Being combined with methamphatemine, klonopin, and similar drugs Being cut with rat poison and ammonium nitrate
Being shipped in from outside the US and cut once it gets to local dealers. Can be smoked or injected Like Krokodil, the injection of this drug can cause the flesh to die off. Mostly being seen in Tennesse
