5 Our story Donna (daughter) and Kay (mum) are the founders of Nanna Kay s The company was created after one of Donna s twins became ill at an early age. Wanting to use nutrition to improve her daughters health, Donna s journey into nutrition began It quickly became clear that there were no truly healthy and nutritious children s ready meals available for time strapped mums, as well as improving meal offerings in schools and nursery s. We started developing healthy recipes at home using the right proportions of each of the food groups, all the time getting them tasted by our expert panel of children! Our ambition for making truly nutritious meals for children, and an increasing demand from friends and family, made us decide to launch Nanna Kay s 3

7 What we make We understand how busy school life can be and that schools will always want to provide the best for their children. We know that they would prefer to make their own meals, but time, facilities and personnel doesn t always allow for this We believe that every child deserves truly nutritious food. No compromises Therefore, we have developed Nanna Kay s a range of nutritionally balanced ready meals for children, flash frozen to lock in goodness Recipes developed for the nutritional needs of all children of school age Every meal provides the perfect balance of carbohydrates, protein and good fats Our meals never contain any artificial colours, additives or preserves We only use the best quality, freshest ingredients we can find We have also developed vegetarian, Halal, Dairy and gluten free ranges, catering for everyone 5

9 How we re different We wanted to make a change to children s nutrition for the better We spoke to some important people at the government to understand what they thought great nutrition for children looked like We then developed all of our recipes to exceed these targets (and we re 2017 regulation ready) with a little help from our friends at The Caroline Walker Trust and Kate Nelson our very clever paediatric dietician And, we re so confident about the quality of our food, we d happily go up against any of the competition! 7

So, we re not just raising the bar, we re sending it into orbit Totally honest In order to make good honest food, we have to act in good honest ways. That includes everything from how we carefully select our ingredients, the way we prepare our meals, to the open and honest relationships we enjoy with our customers. Now you know we won t ever pull the wool over anyone s eyes, we ll just put lovely lamb in their bellies Ridiculously simple We know that mums and dads have hectic lives. That doesn t always make it easy for them to provide their children with nutritious food as often as they d like. With Nanna Kay s there s no need to compromise. Our recipes are made from the best ingredients, delicious and balanced, and can be whizzed from pack to plate in fewer than 5 minutes. Good for your little ones, simple for you Passionately focused We make food for children. No one else. That s why all our recipes are tasted and assessed by the most demanding panel of experts we can call upon: children. And if they don t like something, we change it. Then we explain to them that life isn t always as easy as that. It s just like that at Nanna Kay s Brilliantly fun We know that our healthy, nutritionally balanced meals are great for children s well-being. And that s our focus. But we were children once too. And, we like to think there s still a big kid in all of us. So, we believe that food should be fun too and keep this spirit throughout everything that we do 13

17 Frozen ready meals have experienced significant growth in the last 12 months* - ideal for schools and nursery s. We know the true benefits of freezing our meals, so we re pleased to see that others are re-discovering frozen and seeing it more than simply the nature of how you store it The likes of Jamie Oliver and the cook effect have helped us in reeducating that frozen food is a fresh and nutritious option Cutting down on waste, prep time, training staff and facilities required. The frozen option allows the nutrition that we have worked so hard to get into each dish to stay there, as it s locked in! 19 How we fit into Food For Life All stand alone products such as meatballs, Beef Burgers, Chicken Fillets, Fish fillets and sausages can all be bought in under the 75% made from scratch requirement. Proteins and sauces can be bought in under the 25% not made from scratch requirement. For regen kitchens we can offer a one stop solution, of ready meals complete that meet all dietary requirements and Government targets for sat fats, sugar and salt, so although they may not be able to obtain Food For Life accreditation they will know they are serving the best food possible. For those kitchens with a small amount of facilities, we can offer proteins and sauces and they can simply add pasta / rice etc. Cutting down on prep times, facilities required etc. Special dietary requirements catered for in individual packs if required. All dishes come in Halal versions, whether in multi portion or in single portions. Red tractor & MSC Factory rating BRC Grade A Halal accreditation to HFA. 16

20 Why Nanna Kay s? Our founder Kay Shearing sits on 2 All party Parliamentary Groups A fit and Healthy Childhood & Healthy eating in Schools. She has contributed to 2 major papers covering the need of healthy eating in schools and children generally. Kay is at the front line of what changes are coming into the sector and therefore can anticipate them in our dishes, already, all of our dishes mean that the kitchens that use them will already be 2017 compliant no changes necessary. As we employ our own Paediatric Dietician ( not nutritionist ) each recipe is carefully balanced and developed to ensure our food is totally transparent and will stand up to even the closest scrutiny no clever wording needed for our dishes! A range of 19 dishes to allow choice throughout a 3 week menu cycle and the ability to respond to requests for new meals within a quick timescale. 17

22 Our vision for the future We exist to give mums and dads the piece of mind that they re feeding their children the most nutritious meal possible and one we know their children will love! We ve made a good start, but there is a long way to go we re passionate about changing the way children eat for the better and believe that achieving partnerships with various Local Authorities will give us the scale to deliver We will continue to challenge convention and lead the category, always striving for a better standard To make it as easy as possible for schools to conform to the new government guidelines. A grab and go option for older children and for busy schools with many children to feed in a short space of time, opening up another food station easily and cheaply, whereby you lease the station from us and we provide the dishes to go in the server; Ideally this option can serve; Curry s with a rice option Pasta s with various sauces such as; Bolognese Vegetarian Bolognese Meatballs and tomato sauce Beef Chilli and Vegetable chilli with rice 20
