4 WELCOME Kristine Erlandson, MD Meeting Co-chair David Moore, PhD Meeting Co-chair Joseph Margolick, MD, PhD Meeting Co -chair DEAR COLLEAGUE, The integration of antiretroviral therapy (ART) into HIV care has dramatically extended the life expectancy of those living with HIV. The longer life expectancy of people with HIV infection is changing the demographics of the HIV epidemic and currently, more than one-half of the people living with HIV are age 45 or older. Recent estimates in Europe suggest that more than 70% of those with HIV will be over the age of 50 by 2030, with a greater burden of comorbidities and the associated treatments. In comparison to similar HIV-uninfected populations, HIV-infected persons, even when on effective ART, experience an excess of morbidity and mortality. Persons on ART rarely die from complications of AIDS, but instead have early onset of aging complications including neurocognitive decline, osteoporosis and fractures, impaired physical function, frailty, and falls. The high priority on understanding the interaction between age and HIV infection is illustrated by recent summary reports from the HIV and Aging Consensus Project in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and ongoing NIH Program Announcements in Multidisciplinary Studies of HIV/AIDS and Aging, in addition to strong voices in the community. The multidisciplinary nature of HIV and aging requires joining expertise in many areas including geriatrics, internal medicine, HIV, pharmacology, psychology, and numerous subspecialties. Indeed, the International Workshop on HIV & Aging was initiated in 2009 as a unique and muchneeded platform for scientific exchange on the increasingly recognized difficulties encountered in the clinical care and design of research studies to improve the care of persons aging with HIV. The interactive and focused setting allows for presentation and discussion of the latest developments and strategies for the future of persons aging with HIV. The intimate size and focused nature of the meeting stimulates interaction, and the relationships formed at this meeting have led to many productive and collaborations lasting well beyond the meeting itself. As in previous years, the 2018 meeting will gather a cross-disciplinary team of experts, trainees, and community members who are involved in HIV and aging research and the provision of care to older persons living with HIV. The ultimate goals of this conference are to stimulate and guide research that will enable better treatment methods and strategies for older adults with HIV, to encourage young investigators, and to stimulate new partnerships between investigators in HIV and aging. 4 International Workshop on HIV & Aging- Meeting Prospectus

5 MEETING DESCRIPTION NEEDS STATEMENT The International Workshop on HIV & Aging remains the only platform in the world for international, cross-disciplinary exchange and dialogue for experts involved in HIV and aging research. The meeting gathers an international community of researchers, healthcare professionals, and community advocates. The compact size of the meeting stimulates interaction, which is considered one of the most effective elements of this program. With an aging HIV population, there is a pressing need for substantive scientific dialog on this topic, particularly since HIV itself may accelerate the aging process. The annual international Workshop on HIV & Aging was founded in 2009 as a unique and much needed platform for international scientific exchange between virologists, aging scientists, immunologists, neuroscientists, and clinicians, among others. As in previous years, the 2018 edition will again gather a cross-disciplinary team of experts and trainees involved in HIV and aging research, in order to present and discuss the latest developments and strategies for the future, in an interactive setting. The latest developments will be reviewed and evaluated in order to identify important topics for future research, develop better approaches to treatment, and create a strategic agenda for future management problems associated with HIV and aging. This workshop is intended as a small, focused meeting to encourage scientific dialogue. Improved management of older adults with HIV will require a much deeper understanding of the interface between aging, HIV, associated comorbid conditions, and concurrent treatment. In addition, research is needed to address the unique psychosocial challenges faced by this growing population. TARGET AUDIENCE Clinicians and scientists working on cardiovascular, renal, endocrine, neurologic, and metabolic complications of HIV; Infectious Disease specialists (virologists, immunologists, pharmacologists); geriatricians; epidemiologists; geneticists; policy makers; and community advocates. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The meeting will have a two-day program consisting of invited lectures, abstract-driven scientific presentations, and poster sessions MEETING OBJECTIVES Facilitate an open exchange for scientific, knowledge regarding HIV and Aging Promote successful translation and dissemination of new knowledge Foster new and lasting cross-disciplinary partnerships and collaborations between researchers in aging and HIV, in order to improve knowledge-sharing with the goal to improve the health span within the population of elderly individuals with HIV. Attract, showcase, and mentor new, early career, and underrepresented investigators to this multidisciplinary area of research. Facilitate a robust dialogue among participants through interactive networking and meal breaks, a career mentoring workshop, a networking reception, and distribution of the participant list to all #HIVaging18 International Workshop on HIV & Aging- Meeting Prospectus 5

Host an interactive poster session; award young and early career investigators; and invite oral Key Topic s presentations as selected from submitted abstracts based on scientific merit. Publish and promote conference proceedings. Summarize the current state of the science with regard to aging with HIV and assess the value in identifying at-risk patients and monitoring therapeutic strategies ACCREDITATION This workshop will not be a CME accredited activity. LEARNING OUTCOMES & IMPACT After participating in this activity, participants will be able to: Identify age-related clinical complications found in aging HIV-infected adults Integrate the latest scientific research into clinical care to improve the quality of life of patients Identify the future challenges faced by the expanding population of elderly HIV-infected patients ASSESSMENT METHOD To assess the meeting, Virology Education provides each delegate with a detailed feedback form where they can assess the speakers, whether or not the meeting objectives were met, their intent to change, the rationale behind their motivation to attend, the general logistics of the meeting, and much more. All the questions are then fully analyzed and a comprehensive report is created and shared with the committee members. These reports help us better understand our delegates and how to make the next meeting better. For a maximum response rate, we invite the chairs of each session to encourage the participants to take a few minutes and complete the feedback forms. 7 CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION GRANTS The conference participation grants provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to attend a conference they would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial restrictions. All applications include a CV, a motivation letter, and potentially an abstract (requirements vary depending on the workshop). These are submitted via an independent CPG portal and are evaluated against the assessment criteria using robust, impartial and independent peer review processes by the Grant Review Committee. This process will ensure that only the highest quality, most relevant and most competitive research is accepted but that it is. The grants are supported by the financial contributions allocated by the sponsor, who, has no control, influence, or involvement in the selection process of the attendees whatsoever. Priority is given to applicants who have actively participated in original research or scientific work that is being presented at the meeting and/or those who will profit most from participating in order to improve their daily clinical management. These grants help defray costs for registration, travel and accommodation for delegates and foster their ability to form valuable professional networks and develop vital collaborations. Conference participation grant applications will be solicited, selected and awarded by an expert Grant Review Committee. Please note that the TITANIUM, PLATINUM and GOLD support levels will reduce the costs for conference participation grants. Supporters can indicate a desired number of CPGs to be granted in the response form further below. ENDURING MATERIALS INFECTIOUS DISEASES ONLINE Enduring information presented at the conference will be freely retrievable and widely disseminated to reach thousands of virtual participants beyond the walls of the conference center.
