WELCOME The goal of the HIV Healthy Living Project is to help HIV infected individuals realize their health potential to the very fullest, through improved HIV care.

This conference will provide HIV health care professionals the tools needed to fulfill this new task.

4 WELCOME The goal of the HIV Healthy Living Project is to help HIV infected individuals realize their health potential to the very fullest, through improved HIV care. Comprehensive HIV management can no longer limit itself to suppressing HIV RNA levels, but must help guarantee patients an active, satisfying and long life. This conference will provide HIV health care professionals the tools needed to fulfill this new task. Charles Boucher, Meeting Chair Jonathan Schapiro MD Meeting Chair The goal will be to develop a community of future clinical leaders who embrace this updated and relevant paradigm for the care of HIV infected individuals. They will have knowledge and expertise not only in suppressing viral replication, but also in making choices that will promote optimal health throughout their patient s lifetime. Last year s meeting, the 1st International Workshop on Living with HIV, was very well received. Among all participants, 88% reported that they will incorporate what they learned into their patient care. This year s program will utilize multiple educational modalities allowing clinicians to develop these skills in a comprehensive and interactive environment. The first day of the meeting includes interesting plenary talks and case discussions by leaders in the field, as well as abstract-driven presentations by young clinicians and investigators. To maximize participant engagement, the second day of the program will be entirely devoted to discussion. Participants will be working in small groups on specific questions regarding one of the meeting s topics, and will present their ideas and recommendations to the other participants, followed by discussion. In order to achieve greater learning outcomes and create more fruitful discussions, participants will be provided with pre-meeting learning materials to prepare themselves for discussions. Throughout the meeting, there will be plenty of opportunity for informal exchange between faculty and participants. 5 MEETING DESCRIPTION NEEDS STATEMENT Over the last two decades, HIV has been transformed from a fatal disease into a chronic condition where the great majority of HIV infected individuals can look forward to a full and active life. This has been due to an increased understanding of the disease and its management over the years of research but, above all, also to the unprecedented improvements of antiretroviral drugs. Not surprisingly, current management of HIV infected patients continues to be overwhelmingly influenced by the fear of AIDS, suffering and, ultimately, death and with treatment success measured by long term avoidance of these conditions. But in the context of the armamentarium now available to clinicians and HIV infected individuals, much more encouraging and hopeful goals are appropriate. The conference agenda has been developed in close collaboration by an international faculty of experts from various multidisciplinary fields and supported by societies such as the International Association of AIDS Care, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Infektiologie and the HIV Vereniging Nederland. Unlike most HIV conferences, participants will not be hearing redundant talks on topics already covered at general HIV conferences focusing on viral suppression, but will be able to enjoy a program that is 100% dedicated to promoting long-term health in their patients. A full range of plenary talks, case presentations and discussions will provide a very unique learning experience. The conference will be the third edition of an enduring, long-term educational program aimed at assisting the HIV clinician in gaining true expertise and experience in promoting their patient s healthy living. As opposed to a one-shot meeting, this conference is part of a unique ongoing educational program devoted entirely to the topic. TARGET AUDIENCE The target audience of this meeting mainly consists of infectious disease physicians, researchers and nurses who are involved in the treatment and care of HIV infected patients. This meeting brings together a balanced mix of experienced professionals and young clinicians and investigators, and participants from many different European countries. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The format of the Healthy Living workshop consists of plenary lectures, abstract presentations and clinical case discussions followed by Q&A. Much time will be allocated to discussion and debate. To achieve a highly interactive meeting, we are organizing interactive break-out sessions: The second day of the workshop will be entirely devoted to discussion. Small groups of participants will discuss specific pressing questions with the faculty and present their recommendations to the entire group. 7 UNIQUE MEETING FEATURES 1. Although HIV conferences often include a section or session on healthy living, this conference will be dedicated ENTIRLY to this topic. Participants will not be hearing redundant talks on topics already covered at general HIV conferences focusing on viral suppression, but will have the opportunity to attend a meeting that is 100% dedicated to promoting long-term health in their patients. 2. This will be the most comprehensive and extensive conference on healthy living with HIV to date. Experts in the field will discuss the most relevant topics for healthy living with HIV, such as how to further improve HIV drugs, how to best monitor HIV patients in the future, and how to use social media to improve HIV patient care. Interesting plenary talks, case presentations and discussions, as well as interactive break-out sessions will provide a very unique learning experience. The conference will be the first component of an enduring, long-term educational program aimed at assisting the HIV clinician in gaining true expertise and experience in promoting their patient s healthy living. As opposed to a one-shot meeting, this conference will be the first step in a unique ongoing educational program devoted entirely to the topic of healthy living with HIV. LEARNING OUTCOMES & IMPACT After attending this program participants will be able: Enhanced communication and collaboration between both junior- and senior-level, international researchers (from academia, government, and industry) and clinicians to promote the exchange of ideas, results, and technologies leading to successful translation into improving long term health for HIV infected individuals. Dissemination of knowledge and data exchanged by conference participants beyond the audience of the live event, thus maximizing the impact for the growing biology of the HIV research community. ASSESSMENT METHOD To assess the meeting, Virology Education rovides each delegate with a detailed feedback form where they can assess the speakers, whether or not the meeting objectives were met, their intent to change, the rationale behind their motivation to attend, the general logistics of the meeting, and much more. All the questions are then fully analyzed and a comprehensive report is created and shared with the committee members. These reports help us better understand our delegates and how to make the next meeting better. For a maximum response rate, we invite the chairs of each session to encourage the participants to take a few minutes and complete the feedback forms. 8 CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION GRANTS The conference participation grants provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to attend a conference they would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial restrictions. All applications include a CV, a motivation letter, and potentially an abstract (requirements vary depending on the workshop). These are submitted via an independent CPG portal and are evaluated against the assessment criteria using robust, impartial and independent peer review processes by the Grant Review Committee. This process will ensure that only the highest quality, most relevant and most competitive research is accepted but that it is. The grants are supported by the financial contributions allocated by the sponsor, who, has no control, influence, or involvement in the selection process of the attendees whatsoever. Priority is given to applicants who have actively participated in original research or scientific work that is being presented at the meeting and/or those who will profit most from participating in order to improve their daily clinical management. These grants help defray costs for registration, travel and accommodation for delegates and foster their ability to form valuable professional networks and develop vital collaborations. Conference participation grant applications will be solicited, selected and awarded by an expert Grant Review Committee. Please note that the TITANIUM, PLATINUM and GOLD support levels will reduce the costs for conference participation grants. Supporters can indicate a desired number of CPGs to be granted in the response form further below. ENDURING MATERIALS INFECTIOUS DISEASES ONLINE Enduring information presented at the conference will be freely retrievable and widely disseminated to reach thousands of virtual participants beyond the walls of the conference center.
