3 Saturday, May 9, am 5 pm THE CRUCIBLE OF YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE Fine Tuning the Clinical Application of Mindfulness Continuing Education for Health Professionals & Meditators Pauley Ballroom, UC Berkeley Bancro Way at Telegraph Ave. Berkeley, CA (510) this workshop is approved for 6 ce credits. Health professionals in medicine, psychology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy are increasingly using mindfulness in their work. As de ned by Jon Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness is remembering to pay a ention on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally. In this way, we can catalyze learning, growing, healing, and transformation across our lifespan with a willingness to turn toward rather than away. e workshop is designed to help counter habitual denial, experiential avoidance, and maladaptive coping behaviors by offering ways to effectively turn towards the actuality of what is happening in the present moment, even when it is frightening, unpleasant and unwanted. Created to support health professionals currently utilizing mindfulness, the workshop also provides a powerful introduction for those professionals considering mindfulness as an addition to their repertoire. By utilizing everything that arises in life the good, the bad, and the ugly all blended into the crucible of rst-person experience, participants will understand how everything becomes the teacher. is allows us to put lessons learned to good use in authentic and imaginative ways. Participants will explore the creative interface between personal experience and mindfulness, including formal practice, to develop appropriate ways to guide patients/clients in cultivating their own mindfulness. topics to be covered Mindfulness-based interventions require a personal mindfulness practice on the part of the therapist/instructor e power of breath and si ing meditation Tuning into your own experience in the present moment mindful a unement/deep listening Leading/teaching from within Turning toward difficult emotions, thoughts, sensations, and life events Research-based evidence of the clinical efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions
