1 July-September pages Volume 7, Number 3 Bring ID Cards to Pools But Leave Alcohol Drinks at Home Here s a reminder to residents from the CDD Board as summer returns and we expand the amenities at the park: Bring your individual CDD-issues photo ID card to access the community s gated pools, the clubhouse or the basketball and tennis courts but leave the alcoholic beverages at home. Those are among the key rules posted at both the park and Straiton pools. The only difference in rules is that the park pool capacity is 148 people, while the smaller Straiton pool capacity is 30. Pool monitors hired by the CDD Board will ask anyone in violation of the rules to comply with them. If a rules violator refuses, pool monitors can direct that individual to leave district property. If a violator refuses to leave, the violator faces action by law enforcement. That action can include being escorted off CDD property and being issued a trespass citation barring the violator s return. If trespassed individuals come back onto any district property, they can be arrested. The CDD Board hires off-duty state troopers to assist in community law enforcement and compliance with CDD rules. residents and to maximize their enjoyment of facilities their CDD assessments financer. For example: Residents and guests will be full of apologies if they drop a glass beverage or other breakable container, spraying glass on the pool deck beneath the bare feet of others. If they do so in the pool, it has to be closed for several days to be drained, cleaned of all glass and refilled, with all costs paid by landowners. So please keep breakable containers away from the pools! Many children under the age of 13 like to swim. But they could be endangered or misbehave if they were allowed access unaccompanied by a supervising adult. Other adults and pool monitors are not their (free) babysitters. Teenagers, understandably, like to socialize with their friends, many of whom they met in school and live outside of Ballantrae. The white, blank family access cards once issued to residents no longer open community gates. They were replaced in 2011 with individual photo ID cards with the names and addresses also printed on them. They are color-coded for age: red boxes around the photos of minors between years of age and green boxes around the photos of adults age 18 and older. Only adults are allowed to bring guests (maximum of four). Children under the age of 13 are only allowed access when accompanied by a supervising adult with an adult ID card. Full ID card rules and the process to obtain them are included in this newsletter. They are also available from maintenance staff at the clubhouse and are posted on the CDD s website at ballantraecdd.org. Read down the tabs at the left on the home page and click on Clubhouse & Amenities. On that page, scroll down to the third paragraph and click on the like Rules for obtaining a card are listed here. Alcohol Generally Prohibited Alcoholic drinks have been banned from all CDD property since it opened in 2006, with one exception: individuals renting the clubhouse can pay an additional rental fee that allows alcohol to be served and consumed, but only inside the clubhouse. Any violation of that restriction will result in all alcohol being removed immediately from district property. The purpose of the rule is simple: there are insurance, liability and behavior concerns for all district landowners if anyone consumes alcohol in non-designated areas. By contrast, those who rent the clubhouse release the district s landowners, in writing, from any liability resulting from the conduct of their guests. Otherwise, any resident who wishes to enjoy an alcoholic beverage on a hot summer day is welcome to do so just not on district property. Rules Promote Safety, Enjoyment All the rules have common goals. They are designed to safeguard our

We simply cannot accommodate our many minors bringing in non-residents. Youngsters have every right to safely enjoy their bikes, roller blades and skateboards but they are obvious safety hazards if they were allowed on our often-crowded pool decks. Civility is a cornerstone of the rules: be polite, refrain from loud, foul or abusive language. And please, walk- don t run. If we all follow the rules, everyone can enjoy out community amenities. Get Access Cards Residents are reminded that individual photo ID swipe cards, used to access gates CDD facilities in Ballantrae, have been required for more than two years. Briefly, cards are needed to access the clubhouse and park pool, the basketball and tennis courts, plus the Straiton pool. Then cards serve two main goals: They restrict access to CDD members, to reduce crowding by non-members.
