Wrks with state campaigns with a special emphasis n access t care fr cancer patients Currently, ACS CAN is wrking n: Identifying the inside limits f insurance plans befre they becme implemented in January An example f an inside limit includes the type and number f brand medicatins that a cancer patient may btain in a given year. Kentucky has pted t establish a state-run health benefit exchange. Page 1 f 5

2 Expansin f Medicaid is critical- as 17 millin new members are enrlled in Medicaid, hspitals will be paid less DSH ( Medicaid Disprprtinate Share Hspital ) funds as hspitals will have a smaller prprtin f unfunded patients that they treat. DSH funds will begin t be reduced in These payments g directly t hspitals and the prviders wh see patients at the hspitals. New Ways f Wrking Tgether: Jennifer Redmnd As discussed in previus meetings, in rder t maximize time and partner participatin, there will be team meetings (r break-ut meetings ) during the Kentucky Cancer Cnsrtium quarterly meetings. These teams include: Plicy, Systems, and Envirnmental Change Team Prvides plicy recmmendatins t the Kentucky Cancer Cnsrtium Fcuses n three main plicy initiatives: Smke-Free: Educate Kentuckians n the dangers f secndhand smke Increase utilizatin f shared use agreements Address barriers t cln cancer screenings Resurce Plan Team Fcuses n the Resurce Plan which indicates the tw areas where, if funding became available, the mst impact culd be made in reducing cancer rates/burden in Kentucky. The tw pririty, high-impact areas identified included tbacc preventin/reductin and increasing cln cancer screening. The resurce plan will be expanded t include breast and cervical cancer preventin/early detectin. These areas were identified based upn data identified by the Kentucky Cancer Registry. Tw exciting develpments that have ccurred in the spring 2012 include the creatin f the Kentucky Cancer Fundatin and funding prvided t the Kentucky Cln Cancer Screening Prgram, bth f which will help address cln cancer screenings barriers. Survivrship Team Fcuses n survivrship needs f cancer patients as well as thse wh treat cancer survivrs. See attached the Plicy, Systems, & Envirnmental Change Definitins sheet and the Kentucky Cancer Actin Plan- Revisins Update t see the tentative schedule fr updating the Cancer Actin Plan by cancer area. Ht Tpic: Cancer in Kentucky: Tm Tucker Prvided a pwerpint presentatin n the burden f cancer in Kentucky and what are the high pririty areas. This pwerpint will be made available later this year nce the data is updated with the mst current years/dates. Sme imprtant ntes frm Dr. Tucker s presentatin: Rank Sum data: allws fr cmparisns acrss Kentucky s 15 Area Develpment Districts (ADDs). 1 indicates the wrst parameter r scre ut f the 15 ADDs and 15 indicates the best parameter. It was nted that as a state, we have made tremendus imprvements in increasing cln cancer screening rates. Hwever, we will need t becme mre innvative & creative in capturing the last 30-40% f peple wh still have nt gtten screened. 3 Breakut Teams Lung Cln Breast Cervical It was stressed thrughut the presentatin that educatin is a key determinant in nt getting screened fr cancer. Therefre, effrts shuld be encuraged and leveraged t increase literacy rates in Kentucky. In additin, effrts shuld be extended t reach minrity ppulatins especially with African-American males t imprve cancer screening rates. Survivrship Team Patient Navigatin Frum will be held n Nv. 8 th, 2012 in Lexingtn at the Bne Center n the University f Kentucky s campus Target ppulatin: peple wh cnsider themselves navigatrs r thse interested in starting patient navigatin activities Objective: Identifying resurces and supprt that is needed t expand patient navigatin services in Kentucky. This includes navigatin services related t screening, access t treatment/care, and survivrship. Plicy/Systems/Envirnmental Change Team Shared Use Discussed hw t educate cmmunities n the new regulatin changes. The team suggested putting tgether a tlkit f resurces and a 1-pager fr distributin and ptentially having Andrea Plummer f KY Yuth Advcates (KYA) d a webinar n Shared-use prmting the reprt and tlkit. Pssible entities with which t share this infrmatin was discussed which included the media, KYA Lbby Day, alng with numerus ther schl/business/ther rganizatins. Ptential future plicy areas Discussed needs arund the cln cancer screening prgram, FIT educatin, and the new pain medicine law & hw KCC shuld investigate the effects n cancer patients. Resurce Plan Team Is refining and ptentially expanding the Resurce Plan. They are wrking n setting up a date fr a cnference/webinar at the end f August t discuss further. In reviewing the Resurce Plan, the Team will fcus n: strengths f the Resurce Plan; gaps/expansin areas t ptentially include breast and cervical cancer; resurces beynd funding; creative ways t present the Resurce Plan t partners/decisin makers; and cnsider pririty areas f cmmunicatin. Cervical Cancer Free Kentucky- Cnnie White Organizatins awarded mini-grants will be annunced sn. The fcus activity f these minigrants is t increase HPV vaccinatin rates in Kentucky. Kentucky Cancer Prgram (KCP)- Carl Hurst New fcus fr the KCP includes cmmunity-clinical linkages and identifying and mbilizing new partners at the lcal levels t becme invlved in their lcal District Cancer Cuncil (DCC) meetings.
