1 Friday 16th March 2018 Dear Children and Parents, Animal Farm Trip 'The Reception children had a lovely day out on their very first outing together at the Fattoria degli Animali. They behaved splendidly and were interested in all the facts that the guide told them. We were very fortunate as they had the opportunity to gently stroke a baby duckling, see a one day old llama and a lamb that wasn't even a day old. The children were excited when they entered the enclosure and were able to feed the animals. Contact with nature is amazing! Year 3 Egyptian Day After a picnic lunch, the children had time to play and also relax after a busy morning. A big thank you to the mums who accompanied and assisted us and all the staff who helped to make our day run so smoothly! Last Friday Year 3 travelled back over 5000 years and transformed into amazing Egyptians. They had a jam packed day making jewellery, dancing and strutting their stuff on the catwalk. A huge thank you to all the parents for their continued support and effort with costumes. This contribution helped make the day so successful. Miss McMahon and Miss Watson (Year 3 class teachers) Year 2 Bioparco Trip Year 2 had a wild day on Tuesday as they visited the Bioparco in Rome. Here is what they had to say.
2 I liked listening to the guide because he spoke in English and taught me a lot about all of the animals. Riccardo (Y2P) It was excellent to go to the zoo and into the reptile house and see all of the interesting animals that I had never seen before. Carla (Y2P) I liked the white tiger. It had beautiful stripes and we are in the Tiger class! David (Y2T) My favourite animals were the lions and the fennec fox. The lion roared at us and the fennec fox was very cute! Siman (Y2T) As you can see... The Tigers did see a tiger! Year 10 & 11 Geography Trip On Thursday 8th March the Year 10 and 11 IGCSE Geography students went on fieldwork in the centre of Rome. The aim of the trip was to investigate land use and environmental quality. The students recorded information using quantitative and qualitative methods such as recording ground floor land use on specific streets chosen using random sampling. The students collected data which they will collate, analyse and then graph. The trip was blessed with fine weather, and the city centre was not particularly crowded, and the lunch was amazing! Year Five's Art and History Trip Last Friday Year Five took a trip into the centre of Rome. We observed and sketched the ancient Colosseum as well as experiencing a terrific Monet exhibition where we were able to see many of the great artist s original works. We had a fantastic time, learned a lot and behaved in a way that was a credit to the school. We are already looking forward to our next trip! Mr Butler and Ms Vaughan Year 5 Class Teachers Paddington Ahoy, me Hearties! The Paddington brothers have had a jolly good time with our friends, Riccardo and Carlo (Year 1W).
3 Yo Ho Ho! Primary Maths Corner Senior Maths Corner ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS PUZZLE: Nurses Corner Dear Parents, Children don't always listen when parents tell them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing.
4 Hand washing is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine it involves five simple and effective steps (Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, Dry) you can take to reduce the spread of diarrheal and respiratory illness so you can stay healthy. Regular hand washing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It's quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Hand washing is a win for everyone, except the germs. First Line of Defense Against Germs Germs can spread in many ways including: * touching dirty hands * changing dirty diapers * through droplets in the air released during a cough or sneeze * on contaminated surfaces * through contaminated water and food * through contact with a sick person's body fluids When kids come into contact with germs, they can unknowingly become infected simply by touching their eyes, nose or mouth. And once they're infected, the whole family can become sick with the same illness. Good hand washing is the first line of defence against the spreading of many illnesses- from the common cold to more serious infections, such as the flu, conjunctivitis, hepatitis A, bronchiolitis, meningitis, and most types of infectious diarrhea. Again a reminder for all. Please keep your child at home when they are not feeling well or ill. Sending them to school when ill will only spread germs to the whole class, and make your child's recovery take a longer time. Messages from the Administration Re-Registration for the Academic Year Kindly note the deadline to register your child is 23rd March You are encouraged to book an appointment ( using Event Code: MBLY2) where a Payment Plan will be prepared outlining the fee structure and applicable discounts. Southlands in Euroma 2 Southlands is participating in an educational event in Euroma 2 from 14 th 17 th March. Come and visit us! Academic Calendar We are pleased to attach the calendar for your ease and convenience. Do have an enjoyable weekend.
