investing our GLOBAL RESOURCES in the FUTURE of POULTRY We ll be thereṭm
2 As the world has become interconnected, the need for a global perspective to animal health has never been more important. An outbreak of disease in one country can quickly spread across borders and even oceans. This is why CEVA is committed to building a worldwide network that can meet both global challenges and local needs.
responding to the world s animal health CHALLENGES with a global commitment CEVA is a global company dedicated exclusively to animal health. It is our mission to always be there with products, people and solutions that improve the health and welfare of companion animals, and the safety, health and quality of life of production animals. To make this happen, we do not strive to be all things to all people in animal health. Instead, we carefully focus our company resources in a few key areas so we can respond with innovative pharmaceuticals and biologicals that make a positive difference for veterinarians and producers around the world. Based in Libourne, France 2,200 employees at 46 sites 9 th largest animal health company in the world 15 production sites around the world Ranked #3 worldwide in poultry vaccines Ranked among the top 3 fastest-growing veterinary companies for the past 5 years Global R&D structure includes 5 facilities on 4 continents dedicated exclusively to biologicals We believe that animal health and human welfare are inseparable. In vaccinating poultry flocks, CEVA helps guard against the risk of zoonotic infection between animal species and human populations. This is clearly evident in our vaccination programs against salmonella and Avian Influenza where CEVA vaccines are playing a key role in protecting poultry and people. Dr. Marc Prikazsky, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, CEVA Group Poultry vaccine technology is one of our company s core specialties. Poultry protein is an important food source for cultures across the globe. Protecting the global supply of high quality poultry is critical to the food security for billions. This is why CEVA has made a major commitment to poultry vaccination technology. Through our poultry vaccines, equipment and services, CEVA can help protect both animal health and human health, as well as support food safety and security.
a long HISTORY of shaping the FUTURE From day one in 1912, phylaxia s mission was to provide livestock producers with pragmatic solutions to protect livestock against disease. József Marek was the Hungarian researcher whose reputation reached far beyond European borders, giving his name to Marek s Disease. CEVA PHYLAXIA has played a key role in our significant expansion in biologicals. Over the past 10 years, CEVA has grown more than 500%, making it one of the fastest-growing animal health companies in the world. CEVA has been on the leading edge of vaccine technology for over 100 years. Our company genealogy includes some of the most renowned names in veterinary research and development. József Marek, Aladár Aujeszky and Domokos Derzsy in Europe who made some of the most important discoveries in animal virology. Steve Hitchner, who gave his name to the Newcastle virus strain Hitchner B1B1, as well as Rollie Winterfield and Al Cosgrove who identified Gumboro s Disease (IBD) in the United States. Our research team in Japan who developed the first vector vaccines utilizing cutting-edge DNA technology. From those early days through today, our goal in product development has always been to stay ahead of the needs of the industry. Anticipating emerging viruses. Uncovering application challenges. Discovering new ways to prevent disease. This requires a long-term commitment to working with the best minds in veterinary poultry medicine, avian virology and microbiology. CEVA scientists and researchers are among the most wellrespected in the world, working tirelessly to discover and develop solutions that protect both animal health and human health. Just as our first vaccines helped protect small poultry farmers, our most recent vaccine developments help large poultry integrators overcome some of their biggest disease challenges. CEVA continues to make a name for itself by bringing new alternatives and innovative technologies to poultry producers that enhance performance and improve food safety. 6 High performance being considered the standard, it is true that working at CEVA is demanding. Nevertheless, every employee shares our company s ambitious objectives, all of them working towards the same goals. It is not only a matter of importance, but also a shared unbidden devotion to providing the best products and service to our customers. Dr. Arnaud Bourgeois, Vice President, Global Biological Director, CEVA Group CEVA has put the people, products and facilities in place to help the global poultry industry produce a safe, secure supply of healthy protein for billions around the world. We will continue our growth strategy to match global demands. 6

Research Biological Center Yokohama, Japan Helping meet the growing demands of poultry production. Our commitment to the poultry industry includes a strategic network that can support poultry producers on every continent. This worldwide geographic strategy allows us to provide different markets with products and services adapted to specific local demands and regulatory environments. Worldwide demand means greater demands on producers. Total poultry consumption and production increased from 66 million tons in 1999 to 83 million tons in Poultry production, consumption and trade is expected to grow roughly 30% in the next 8 to 10 years. 1 By 2018, world trade in broiler meat is expected to increase by almost 22%. 2 The U.S. is expected to maintain its position as the world s largest producer. 2 Brazil is the fastest-growing poultry market in the world, and the world s number one exporter. Today, 75% of emerging human diseases are of animal origin. 3 By 2020, a 50% increase in animal protein demand is forecasted. 3 1 Association of Poultry Processors and Poultry Trade, Annual Report Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) Forecast. 3 Bernard Vallat, Director General of the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE), Interview for 2008 Annual Report, CEVA Sante Animale.
INVESTING major resources to drive INNOVATION We strategically invest our resources to meet two primary objectives. First, we must have the capacity to ensure a reliable supply of vaccines to our customers in all of the important geographic centers of poultry. Secondly, CEVA is committed to utilizing the most advanced production techniques in existence. This requires a commitment to innovation that is ongoing. We continually move forward so we can keep our customers one step ahead. Dr. Hervé Laberthe Vice President, Industrial Operations, CEVA BIOMUNE Helping meet increasing worldwide demand takes more than just words on paper. It takes a global financial investment. CEVA is investing more than any other animal health company in facilities and human resources that are 100% dedicated to providing products and solutions to improve the safety, quality and productivity of poultry. A far-reaching commitment to poultry. CEVA has built research and development and production facilities in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Europe and Japan focused exclusively on biologicals. This enables us to deliver a continuous pipeline of new vaccine solutions, and a consistent supply of products to our customers wherever they are located. This is only the beginning of our investment in innovation. New facilities to advance production techniques and support customers. CEVA continually channels significant financial resources into new facilities that feature some of the most advanced production techniques in existence today. In 2008, CEVA invested in a new plant in Mexico fully dedicated to producing Avian Influenza vaccines. In 2009, another new state-of-the-art CEVA production plant went on line in Hungary which is dedicated to producing aerobic and anaerobic bacterial vaccines. In 2009, CEVA began construction of yet another new poultry vaccine facility in Lenexa, Kansas, in the heart of the Animal Health Corridor in the U.S. The new facility, which is dedicated to producing Marek s disease and vector vaccines, is scheduled to be operational in Through 2012, CEVA will invest more than $100 million in strategic initiatives for the poultry industry, which will allow us to serve customers on every corner of the globe. 8
Poultry producers invest their time, energy and financial resources into producing the highest quality meat and eggs possible. We believe they should expect nothing less from CEVA. 9
Our research and development efforts here at CEVA are focused on solving real problems for our customers. Every time we develop a better vaccine, a new technology, or improved delivery system, we re supporting bird performance. It s not just innovation for the sake of it. It s solution-driven science. It s how we became the world leader in vector vaccines. And we aren t stopping here. Kristi Moore, PhD Vice President, Research and Development, CEVA Biomune Innovation is meaningless unless it helps improve the health and productivity of poultry. In the laboratory or in the field, our researchers focus their efforts on improving performance and safety in poultry production. 10
continually exploring the relationship between VACCINE technology and PERFORMANCE Poultry production never stands still. The challenges keep coming. Outbreaks of new avian diseases. Regulatory and legislative requirements in food safety, animal welfare and processing continually change. Global trade agreements shift. To help producers stay ahead of change, CEVA is there with a constant commitment to use technology breakthroughs and product innovation to help improve the safety, efficiency and productivity of the birds. It s not just innovation for the sake of it. We have a singleminded focus on creating unique vaccines that provide a wide range of disease protection with reduced handling and bird stress. We have an impressive track record of developing vaccines to help prevent diseases not adequately addressed by other companies. Whether conventional, immune complex or vector vaccine technology, CEVA is all about adapting to the needs of poultry producers with novel solutions that work against disease, and in each unique operation. We believe this focus on value-added innovation is the reason CEVA is the fastest growing company in the world with more next-generation solutions than any other company. By making a difference for customers, CEVA has made it to the top in vaccine solutions. The largest producer of vector vaccines in the world with the broadest range of combinations. #1 in the world in IBD vaccines. More than 1,000 licensed poultry biologicals worldwide. #1 in salmonella vaccines in the U.S. #1 in chicken anemia virus (CAV) vaccine sales. #1 in U.S. in turkey vaccine sales. #1 in the world in immune complex technology. One of the major global providers in Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease vaccines. 11
CEVAC Transmune IBD. Immune complex technology against IBD. FIRST Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) has been a long standing challenge in the field. Producers needed a vaccine that worked in the presence of a relatively high level of maternal antibodies. In response, CEVA developed CEVAC Transmune IBD, a unique vaccine utilizing upgraded immune complex technology that eliminated the difficulties of vaccinating for IBD by overcoming the challenge of when to vaccinate and the problem of non-uniform administration in the chicken house. It also made it possible to provide lifetime protection against all forms of IBD with a single dose administered via in ovo (in the egg) or subcutaneous injection. CEVA spent several years upgrading immune complex technology, and developing an entirely new vaccine that is highly effective in different disease pressure environments. This enables timely, secure and reliable individual vaccination of a large number of chicks. CEVAC VITABRON L. Provides a unique solution for day-old vaccination. The day-old vaccination of chicks is critical to achieve a good priming and build a strong basis for the field life and possible revaccination against Newcastle Disease and Infectious Bronchitis. However, it can induce detrimental post vaccination reaction in the young bird. To overcome this problem, CEVA developed a unique vaccine combination of PHY.LMV.42 apathogenic enterotropic strain of Newcastle Disease virus and the Massachusetts H120 strain of Infectious Bronchitis virus that allows a safe and efficacious spray application at day-old in the hatchery. FIRST LAYERMUNE SE. Still setting the standard in salmonella protection. FIRST CEVA offers a complete range of products to protect flocks even under high infective pressure. CEVA received the first USDA license for a poultry vaccine against S. enteritidis. Introduced in 1992 at the International Poultry Exhibition, LAYERMUNE SE has been instrumental in earning CEVA the #1 ranking in salmonella vaccines in the U.S. With the concern of S. enteritidis to human health, the proven efficacy of LAYERMUNE SE quickly expanded CEVA s worldwide reach. VECTORMUNE. The broadest range of disease protection in a vector vaccine line. FIRST LAYERMUNE SE contains multiple selected strains of S. enteritidis to help prevent infection of the internal organs and colonization in the intestinal tract. CEVA VECTORMUNE vaccines are the next generation of poultry vaccines. These vector vaccines provide producers with all of the benefits of modified live vaccines without any of the disadvantages. VECTORMUNE vaccines are genetically engineered to express key protective antigens against virulent poultry diseases including Newcastle Disease, Marek s Disease, Fowl Pox, IBD, Avian Influenza, Avian Encephalomyelitis and Mycoplasma. 12
FIRST IN DEVELOPING SOLUTIONS to meet real world challenges Vaccination plays a key role in poultry health and food safety, but no single product or technology can meet the diverse range of disease challenges and operational demands. CEVA never stops looking for technology breakthroughs and innovative vaccine products that address the needs of producers. 13
14 CEVA continues to invent new vaccines to address emerging challenges in poultry health.
the WORLD LEADER in VECTOR vaccine technology CEVA is the world leader in vector vaccine technology for poultry. Today, CEVA offers the broadest range of disease protection with vector vaccines in the world. Why are we so committed to this new standard of technology? Because vector vaccines provide advanced protection against disease without the loss of production that often comes with conventional modified live vaccines (MLV). One application. Singular protection. Every single day of production is critical to productivity. Even one day of compromised health on the front end can mean diminished results on the back end. This is where VECTORMUNE vaccine technology adds value. By taking a safe commonly used vaccine such as HVT and inserting protective antigens from another agent such as NDV, it is possible to protect the bird against both Marek s Disease and Newcastle Disease without the risk of developing clinical disease. No loss of production: Virtually no chance of the host becoming ill from the agent. Less vaccination: Vectormune vaccines induce a long-lasting response so there is generally no need for revaccination in the field which reduces labor cost. No viral shedding: The novel technology utilized in Vectormune vaccines eliminates the risk of seeding the environment with viral agents that could lead to uncontrolled infection in the house. Improved safety: By providing protection without rolling reactions or shedding, Vectormune vaccines help promote poultry health by reducing the number of agents the flock sees throughout the production process. Superior protection: Vectormune vaccines have been proven highly effective in billions of birds around the world providing protection against the broadest combination of avian diseases. CEVA VECTORMUNE vaccines have the potential to replace existing MLV products because of superior protection, better performance and financial return. Our rapid growth is a testament to the widespread acceptance of CEVA vaccines around the world. Dr. Sylvain Comte, Poultry Corporate Marketing Director, CEVA Group
