1 Peter Walters - Bibliography Peter Walters has been recognised as one of the Deaf Heroes, as a Deaf Squash Legend, for being a remarkable Australian Deaf Athlete and has demonstrated both longevity and invincibility in Squash. Peter began playing squash in 1968 at the age of 12. He practiced everyday and that spurred him onto higher squash levels. He made the State Junior U/19 (hearing) where he stayed for 3 years and at that time these were his achievements: No. 3 - SA Junior Under 19 squash player at age of 16 (hearing) in No. 1 - SA Junior Under 19 squash player at age of 17 and 18 (hearing) in 1973 and No. 9 - Australia Junior Under 19 Squash player at the age of 18 in No 7. - South Australia Men s Squash player in When squash was introduced to the Australian Deaf Games (ADG) in Adelaide in 1976/77, Peter won the first ever Men s Championship. Then, in all of nine (9) consecutive ADG appearances, spanning a 31 years period to 2007, Peter won a record of 9 wins in a row for the Australian Men s Squash Individual Deaf Championships and incredibly has never been defeated. Peter surpassed the winning-streak records of the Victorian Deaf Netball and Men s Deaf Table Tennis teams. He has been a Deaf Athlete involved in a variety of Deaf Sport clubs such as Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Men s Basketball, Football, Golf and Eight Ball. Peter has also served on board committees in a variety of Deaf sport clubs such as Squash, Sport Representative (Squash), Tennis and SADRA. He has taken part in voluntary work and supported with SADRA, Royal SA Deaf Society, involved in activities such as busy bees, coaching, fundraising and many other sport and community events in SA, interstate and overseas. Peter was a Board Committee member for the ADSA (Australian Deaf Squash Association) over many years involved in organising and participating in the Peter Walters Bibliography 2007 Page 1
2 World Deaf Squash Championships in 2001 (UK), 2003 (Holland), 2005 (Australia), and 2007 (South Africa).
