2 BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER! This April, ACOEP s 2019 Spring Seminar is headed back to Bonita Springs, FL, just south of Fort Myers on the beautiful Florida Gulf. Spring Seminar boasts a myriad of educational experiences to accommodate a variety of learning styles, including hands-on workshops, didactic lectures and 2019 COLA and LLSA review courses, among many more.

4 This year we ve revamped the conference and created a brand-new structure featuring a custombuilt experience tailored to your medical interests, with more interactive, hands-on opportunities at no additional cost! Take a look at the conference s new structure on the next few pages.

5 TO ENSURE A SMOOTH REGISTRATION EXPERIENCE, PLEASE READ THE BELOW CAREFULLY. APRIL 8TH AND 9TH Ease into the week with two days of general lectures. APRIL 10TH AND 11TH* The third and fourth days of the conference will be for you to choose your own ED-Venture. These days will include two hours of lectures followed by two hours of hands-on, interactive sessions on any TWO topics (one per day) of your choosing (see topics to the right). Please note: You may not choose the same topic for both days. APRIL 12TH The final day of conference will be a day of general lectures. CARDIOLOGY This course teaches techniques on how to detect subtle nuances of EKGs, providing better insight in identifying early ischemic changes and mimickers of myocardial infarction. These key techniques will be taught through the review of case studies and EKG Presentations. OSTEOPATHIC MANIPULATIVE MEDICINE (OMM) This track is ideal for the physician seeking to incorporate or increase the use of OMM as a quick and effective treatment option for a wide variety of ED complaints. Learners will also determine which patients will derive the greatest benefit from OMM, which specific techniques should be applied, and evaluate the potential billing implications of incorporating OMM into practice. PEDIATRICS Pediatric emergency care is challenging for the ER Provider. This track provides pediatric bedside ultrasound techniques which will cover abdominal discomfort, as well as the discussion of clinical pitfalls which are typically seen while caring for the young patient. Head-to-toe case-by-case examples of application will be shown to help decrease the recurrence of these pitfalls. *Upon registering for Spring Seminar, you must select one topic per day for the 10th and 11th. Please note that each topic has limited space.

6 WORKSHOPS AND LABS (ADDITIONAL FEE) ADVANCED AIRWAY WORKSHOP MONDAY, APRIL 8TH Direct laryngoscopy is no longer the single means of intubating a patient. This hands-on workshop will explore varying technological intubation modalities for the treatment of patients with difficult airways in the ED. CRITICAL CARE WORKSHOP TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH This hands-on workshop will explore the evidence-based best practices and clinical recommendations for the care of the critically ill patient. Topics include bleeding disorders, shock management, volume replacement and the utilization of bedside ultrasound to improve management, assessment and treatment of patients in the ED. ABEM LIFELONG LEARNING AND SELF-ASSESSMENT TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH This review will highlight topics and questions that will prepare you to ace the 2019 LLSA. Earn five additional hours of CME credit, dinner is included COLA REVIEW WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10TH Earn five additional hours of CME credit and gain all of the knowledge and information you need to pass the 2019 COLA exam. 10 RESIDENT STUDENT ORGANIZATION EVENTS ACOEP s Spring Seminar is the perfect opportunity for residents and students to learn from some of the top names in emergency medicine. Residents are invited to join lectures, labs and network at the College s events. Students can take advantage of the Spring Seminar Symposium a one-day event that will be filled with hands-on learning and competitions as well as lectures from EM medical professionals. There will also be RSO social events that will run throughout the week, giving residents and students the chance to unwind after each day s educational events. ULTRASOUND WORKSHOP Students will learn the basics of emergency department ultrasound as well as some advanced skills. The session will begin with a lecture and end with a hands-on workshop. RAPID FIRE LECTURES These 30-minute lectures cover a variety of today s most pertinent emergency medicine topics. PRESENTATION WORKSHOP AND COMPETITION Learn how to craft an award-winning presentation through an interactive workshop, followed by the chance to compete against fellow students creating a presentation on a case. FOEM CASE STUDY POSTER COMPETITION TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Join fellow residents and students and compete in FOEM s Case Study Poster Competition! 12 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS RICHARD CANTOR, MD Dr. Richard Cantor is Section Head of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Golisano Children s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, Medical Director for the Central New York Poison Control Center and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Upstate Medical University. He is also the Director of the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. TARLAN HEDAYATI, MD Dr. Tarlan Hedayati is an Assistant Professor and the Interim Program Director for the 68 residents in the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She is an Associate Editor for R.E.B.E.L EM and has lectured nationally and internationally on emergency cardiology, resuscitation, emergency airway management and medical education. AMAL MATTU, MD Dr. Amal Mattu is currently a tenured Professor, Vice Chair and Director of the Faculty Development Fellowship and Co-Director of the Emergency Cardiology Fellowship for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on topics pertaining to emergency cardiology, emergency care of the elderly, faculty development and risk management.
