Professor ranemark was the first to discover the oesseointegration aspect of titanium during his research of bone healing in animals. Currently ranemark implants, sold by Nobel iocare are avail able in three scparate platforms : ranemark 3.3mm diameter - Narrow Platform (NP) 3.5 ranemark 3.75 & 4.0mm diameter - Regular Platform (RP) 4.1 ranemark 5.0 & 5.5mm diameter - Wide Platform (WP) 5.1 Many other implant companies make implants that are restoratively compatible with the ranemark Regular Platform external hex implant. These companies include. Renew iocare, O-IC, 3i, Implamed, Paragon Interpore, Innova and Steri-Oss. The Steri-Oss implant system currently encompasses four different types of implants: Steri-Oss Hex-Loc 3.25, 3.8 & 4.5 external hex Steri-Oss Replace 3.25, 4.3, 5.0 & 6.0 external hex The 3.8 & 4.5 Steri-Oss Hex-Lock is compatible with the Regular Platform, (RP) Renew RE-Mark and ranemark implant, refer to the Renew RE-Mark section for components. The small diameter Hex-Lock 3.25 uses separate components listed in this section and is not compatible with Renew RE-Mark or ranemark implants. 4 Terminology of Components Restorative Components: The restorative components are the elements used to fabricate a restoration that will be connected to the implant(s). The restoration may also be attached to an intermediate component called a tissue extension or abutment which in turn is connected to the implant(s). Implant ody: The implant body is placed into the bone for approximately 4-6 months to allow for osseointegration. The implants should not be loaded prior to osseointegration. Steri-Oss Original Tissue Extension: The TE (Tissue Extension) such as the UM or PME, also referred to as an abutment, is the intermediate connector between the implant and the restoration, it may extend above the tissue. In some instances, a TE extension is subgingival, to provide a more esthetic restoration. PME UM Implant Standardization: The UM tissue extension was developed to standardize the many different implant companies' components and instruments for a more economically controlled inventory and for simplicity of restorative procedures. Its tapered/hexagon fitting surface is identical, regardless of the size or type of implant employed, while its screw-in base is implant specific. 6 ITI Dental Implant System ITI Standard Implant The ITI Dental Implant System was developed in Switzerland by the Institute Straumann and Dr. ndre Schroeder, President of the University ern. ITI implants are endosseous one-stage and were originally designed for overdentures using the Dolder ar system. ITI is now utilized for all restorative options. The one-stage (non-submerged) approach simplifies the procedures and helps minimize trauma to the patient and reduces chairtime as only one surgical procedure is required. The ITI implant system currently encompasses three different types of implants: ITI Small Diameter () external hex ITI Standard 4.8 internal mortice taper ITI Syn-Octa 4.8 internal octagon mortice taper Components from Renew iocare are available for the ITI Standard 4.8 non-hex and the ITI Syn-Octa. 8 3i System Implant Innovations, Inc. Osseotite Standard 3iwas founded in 1987 by Dr. Lazarra in West Palm each, Florida as an aftermarket supplier of implant components.
