1 EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

2 Education Programs For High School Students Get your students involved in some of our exciting Education Programs; designed to enrich their knowledge and skills, as well as complement the current NSW Board of Studies Stage 6 PDHPE Syllabus (Preliminary and HSC Courses) and PASS & SLR courses. Our engaging Sport & Exercise Science Modules allow Year 11 and 12 students to discover theoretical principals of PDHPE in practice. These popular modules are an ideal introduction, midway-break or refresher. Each module is approximately 2.5 hours in length; allowing two (2) modules to be completed within a day if desired. Our PASS & SLR Modules are practical and fun activities that allow students from years 9 12 to apply and gain knowledge through a variety of activities from stand up paddle boarding, yoga and fitness testing. Lessons are planned in order to cover all of the relevant content in a suitable time frame so you are able to mix and match and do more than one activity in a day! Our convenient range of First Aid Courses are ideal for students, coaches, teachers and all those interested in, or requiring, first aid qualifications. Run in partnership with Cynergex Group, these courses are nationally accredited, Aust Swim and Work Cover approved. Our Sports Medicine Awareness & Elastoplast Strap Smart Courses, run in partnership with Sports Medicine Australia, provide great foundations for understanding principles of injury prevention and management in sport. These courses are perfect for anyone interested in sports coaching and administration or becoming a Sports Trainer. Why Choose Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness? 3 Sport & Exercise Science Modules Module 1: Testing Physical Fitness & Movement Efficiency [Links with Year 11: Core 2 The Body in Motion] Through actively participating in a variety of fitness and skills tests, as well as exploring the immediate effects of exercise on the cardio-respiratory system, students will gain an understanding of physical fitness testing and its relationship with movement efficiency, as well as develop a personalised health and skills-related fitness profile. Examples of tests offered include: 40m sprint with speed gates; sub-max V02; vertical jump with Vertec; and anaerobic power using the wingate bike. Outcomes Addressed: P8 (main focus), P11, P16, P17 Module 2: Biomechanics of Rock Climbing [Links with Year 11: Core 2 The Body in Motion] Module 3: Physiological Responses to Cardiovascular Training [Links with Year 12: Core 2 Factors Affecting Performance] This challenging module allows students to actively experience different types of training and explore the effects on the body, examine the principles of training and explore various types of training methods used in sport. Students will also gain an understanding of energy systems in action by participating in aerobic and anaerobic fitness testing, utilising tests such as sub-max V02; and anaerobic power using the wingate bike. Outcomes Addressed: H7, H8, H17 $18 per student per module Minimum 10 students required This exciting and popular module helps students to learn about biomechanics in a practical and fun environment. Through participating in the dynamic sport of indoor rock climbing, students will feel and experience biomechanical principles in action and actively apply their knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Outcomes Addressed: P7, P9 (strong anatomy focus)

4 Module 4: Resistance Training for Improved Performance [Links with Year 12: Option 4 Improving Performance] This fun and interactive module provides students with the opportunity to participate in plyometric training, as well as a weight/resistance training circuit utilising various tools such as free and machine weights. Students will also utilise technology such as speed chutes and sleds. Through actively experiencing weight/resistance training in action, students will gain an understanding of the considerations required, as well as the role of weight/resistance training in improving performance. Outcomes Addressed: H7, H8, H10, H17 E $18 per student per module Minimum 10 students required Module 5: Fluid Mechanics of Stand Up Paddle Boarding (We can come to you for the theory*) [Links with Year 11: Core 2 The Body in Motion] Get out of the classroom and into the water**, students will enjoy learning about the biomechanics and principles of fluid mechanics in stand up paddle boarding. Students will study a variety of aspects such as balance and stability, floatation, buoyancy, fluid resistance, forces and their application to stand up paddle boarding. Once students have learnt the basics they will enjoy a 1.5 hour paddle so they can experience and apply their knowledge to this up and coming sport. Outcomes Addressed: P9, P17 $40 per student Minimum 10 students required *Dependant on distance from The University of Sydney **Practical off-campus (no travel fee charged)

5 SLR & Pass Program Our new Physical Activity Sports Studies (PASS) & Sport Leisure and Recreation (SLR) modules are applicable to, but not limited to, the course outcomes we have chosen. Mix and match and do more than one module in a day! Below is a guide to each activity s relevance to both courses. MODULES PASS SLR Stand up Paddle Boarding Leisure Paddle* Get out of the classroom and into the water and learn about the benefits of stand up paddle boarding whilst getting a fantastic work out at the same time. Students will paddle around the beautiful and natural surrounds of Cronulla, Watsons Bay, Balmoral and Narrabeen Lakes with our highly experienced and qualified instructors. Stand Up Paddle Board Fitness* Students will gain an excellent workout utilising a variety of cardio and resistance based exercises. This will also test students balance and skills, whilst having loads of fun at the same time. Rock Climbing Enjoy the dynamic sport of indoor rock climbing. This module allows students to challenge their physical fitness, planning and ability to work in teams whilst changing their perceptions of the sport. Boot Camp Students will be pushed to their limits in this fun but challenging workout. Boot camp includes a mix of boxing, stairs, hills, body weight, circuits, abs, running and much more in a fun, safe and interactive training environment. Aqua Aerobics This recreational activity is suitable for people of all ages, from first time beginners to those wanting a total body workout. Students will experience the physical attributes and enjoyment that aqua has to offer. Water confidence is required. Kick boxing Work up a sweat with our skilled instructors who will take you through your paces in our fun and fast paced kick boxing session. Fencing Not for the faint hearted, students will learn the basics of this historic sport with its fast paced, dynamic, physical and psychological nature. Yoga Unite the mind, body and soul. Students will actively participate and experience the physical and psychological benefits that yoga has to offer. Pilates Students will actively participate in a pilates session and experience all the benefits that pilates has to offer such as balance and control of the body, flexibility and strength. A great core work out! RPM Get out of the class room, pump up the music and have some fun with this workshop. Students will get a great work out and work up a sweat whilst participating in one of our motivating RPM sessions. Fitness Testing By participating in tests such as 40m sprint with speed gates; sub max VO2 test; and anaerobic power using the wingate bike, students develop, analyse and interpret their health and skills related fitness profile. Resistance Training Students get to pump it up and learn about the uses of resistance training and methods, whilst also designing their own program and analysing its effectiveness. Training and Programing Students will learn and actively participate in designing and analysing their own training programs whilst learning about the different types of training and how they can improve performance. Sports Medicine Awareness Course Students will examine the prevention, treatment and management of sports injuries and safe sports programs. University Experience Day: Program with a Pathway In this workshop students will hear from and speak to industry professionals and scholarship athletes within Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness to see how they got to where they are today. First Aid Gain a qualification and learn at the same time. In our first aid courses students will gain the knowledge and skills in how to deal with common accidents and injuries as well as medical emergencies. Subject to instructor and facility availability s and duration vary per module Module outcomes may differ depending on module content *Off Campus (no travel fee charged)

6 First Aid Courses Add great value to your skill set by completing a first aid course with Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness. We ll provide you with the knowledge and skills to deal with common accidents and injuries as well as medical emergencies. Gaining a first aid qualification is beneficial for everyone; however, for high school students in particular, our first aid courses will assist in enriching the Year 11 Option: First Aid. Outcomes Addressed: P6, P12, P15, P16 Courses Available Apply First Aid This course combines the completion of an informative workbook and a one-day hands-on practical training session. It is perfect for you if you possess no prior first aid qualifications or if your previous qualifications have expired. Apply First Aid - Refresher This course involves just one day of hands-on practical training. It is perfect if you have a current first aid qualification and need to renew it. CPR This course provides an introduction to the basic CPR technique, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), treatment of unconscious casualties, recovery positions and the application of the emergency action plan. CPR - Refresher This course provides a revision of basic CPR technique, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), treatment of unconscious casualties, recovery positions and application of the emergency plan. This is essential for those wanting to keep their qualifications up to date. On successful completion of a first aid course, you will receive: Certificate (HLTFA311A) or (HLTCPR201B) Accreditation Card We can come to you! Offsite bookings can be made for our first aid courses (travel fee applies) Apply First Aid (Student) - $85 p.p.* CPR (Student) - $60 p.p. Minimum 10 students required *Work books come with first aid course enrolments

7 Sports Medicine Awareness & Elastoplast Strap Smart Courses [Links with Year 12 OPTION 3: Outcomes Addressed: H8, H13, H16, H17] Come and learn the basics of sports medicine and sports taping in this comprehensive two-part workshop that is endorsed and produced by Sports Medicine Australia. Part 1 Sports Medicine Awareness In part 1 of the course, students examine the prevention of injury, first aid treatment for sports injuries, management of injuries and safe sports programs. Time: 2.5 hours Part 2 - Elastoplast Strap Smart Part 2 of the course offers students technical and practical advice for taping/strapping to prevent injuries, manage existing injuries and support. Taping techniques will cover the thumb, fingers and ankle. Time: 2.5 hours Your choice We are flexible to cater to your students requirements. Choose either: Part 1 (Sports Medicine Awareness) AND Part 2 (Elastoplast Strap Smart); or just Part 2 (Elastoplast Strap Smart). Courses include: Certificate of attendance Certificate for Level 1 Sports Taping All equipment including tape, resource book and handouts We can come to you! Offsite bookings can be made for our Sports Medicine Awareness & Elastoplast Strap Smart Courses. (Travel fee applies) Sports Medicine Awareness and Elastoplast Strap Smart - $60 per student. The aim of our camps is to introduce and encourage kids to participate in sport and fitness by focusing on skill development; enhancing self-confidence and social interaction; and developing a knowledge of movement skills required to participate in various activities.
