1 Sports Medicine Visitor s Guide Welcome to Utah Valley University! This guide is designed to assist Sports Medicine Teams during their visit to UVU. 2 Utah Valley University Athletics Dear Visiting Athletic Trainer, Welcome to Utah Valley University! We hope you enjoy your stay here in Orem. All UVU facilities are located near the McKay Events Center, located at 800 West University Parkway. Athletic training staff and facilities are available on practice days from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Facilities are also available two hours prior to the event. If you need training provisions, Utah Valley University s facilities are equipped with modalities, ice, and athletic training supplies. Please notify us if you require our facilities, or if your team is traveling without an athletic trainer, so we can arrange to provide proper coverage for your team. Please locate your sport below for specific team arrangements. Enclosed are maps and directions to the nearest hospitals and Instacare facilities. Our student health services may be used from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For your convenience, contact information and addresses are also included for the nearest restaurants. 3 Section II: Sports Medicine Resource Descriptions The following sports compete in the McKay Events Center/Activities Center. Men s Basketball Women s Basketball You will have access to the athletic training room located in the McKay Events Center. It is a fully functional training room with modalities, heat, and ice. A Certified Athletic Trainer, a team physician, oxygen, and AED will be present during your game. EMS is on call if needed. Water, injury ice, cups, and towels will be provided on your bench. Women s Volleyball Wrestling You will have access to the athletic training room located in the McKay Events Center prior to competition. A small limited capability athletic training room (i.e. heat, table) will be available adjacent to the court/mat during warm up and competition. A Certified Athletic Trainer, a team physician, oxygen, and AED will be present during your competition. EMS is on call if needed. Water, injury ice, cups, and towels will be provided on your bench. Wrestling Teams that come the day before, or very early for warm up, may be located in the Wolverine Service Center (WSC). A fully functional athletic training room is available in the WSC adjacent to the Wrestling Room. The following sports compete at Brent Brown Ballpark. Baseball You will have access to the athletic training room Located in the stadium. This is a fully functioning athletic training room with modalities, heat, and ice. A Certified Athletic Trainer, a team physician, oxygen, and AED will be present during your competition. EMS is on call if needed. Water, injury ice, cups, and towels will be provided on your bench. The following sports compete on the MStar Field. Softball You will have access to the athletic training room located in the McKay Events Center. It is a fully functional training room with all modalities, heat, and ice. A Certified Athletic Trainer, a team physician, oxygen, and AED will be present during your competition. EMS is on call if needed. Water, injury ice, cups and towels will be provided on your bench. 3
4 The following sports compete at a Local Golf Course. Women s Golf Men s Golf You will have access to the athletic training room located in the McKay Events Center. It is a fully functional training room with all modalities, heat and ice. Any additional arrangements, including a Sports Medicine Tent during competition, will be made on an as need basis. The following sports compete at a UVU Track or UVU Cross Country Course on campus. Men s Track and Field/Cross Country Women s Track and Field/Cross Country You will have access to the athletic training room located in the Wolverine Service Center (WSC). It is a fully functional training room with all modalities, heat, and ice. A Certified Athletic Trainer will be present during your competition. Our Team Physician and EMS are on call if needed. Water, Gatorade, injury ice, cups, towels, and emergency equipment (including Oxygen and AED) will be provided at the Sports Med Tent located near the start and finish Line. The following sports compete at Wolverine Field. Women s Soccer You will have access to the athletic training room located in the McKay Events Center. It is a fully functional training room with all modalities, heat, and ice. A Certified Athletic Trainer, a team physician, oxygen, and AED will be present during your competition. EMS is on call if needed. Water, injury ice, cups, and towels will be provided on your bench. 4

From McKay Events Center 2. Drive West to 1200 West and turn Left 3. Turn Right at the Round About 4. Turn Left Immediately onto University Parkway 5. Travel East on University Parkway towards the Mountain 6. Turn Right on State Street 7. Turn Left on Bulldog Blvd 8. Turn Right on 400 West and Follow Signage to ER 5
6 Orem Community Hospital (Intermountain Health Care) Analysis of Facility: Low Level Trauma Good for X Ray, Simple Stitches, Simple Labs, etc. Typically less busy with shorter wait times Works with most insurance Address: 400 North 400 West Orem, Utah Directions to OCH s Emergency Room: 1. From McKay Event Center 2. Drive West to 1200 West and turn Right (North) 3. Follow North to 400 North and Turn Right (East) 4. Follow East to 400 West 5.
