Pacing may vary. Weekly reading may take place in the allotted Social Studies time, the ELA block, or during morning work. DAY 1 Introduce the EQ. The students must be able to answer the EQ, citing specific text evidence from the weekly reading. DAYS 2-4 Chunk weekly reading. Use questions in text as comprehension checks. DAY 5 AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT OPTIONS: Answer the EQ citing specific text evidence. Introduce/reinforce the reading skill of the unit. Students should work on strengthening this skill as they read. Preview vocabulary. PRIMARY sources Incorporate directed turn and talk, questioning with wait time, etc. Follow text marking prompts. Primary Sources Integration Complete the Unit Big Idea activity. Complete the Worktext Resources activities The Primary Source Library offers an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their reading skills in Cluster 3. Each lesson provides multiple primary sources for comparison with questions and a task attached. Teachers are encouraged to utilize this library as a literacy center throughout the week.
