As I began the year sequestered due to the flu, while I guarantee that I am not a good patient, God did provide insights into the many blessings always around me - and I had the time to realize them. Please join me in thanking our WCEA Leadership Team, Elizabeth Harmuth and Margie Chu, as well as Karen Murray, who made sure all was ready of our WCEA Visiting Team's Pre-Visit that happened today! Join me in thanking the many teachers and staff members who subbed for my 8th grade religion classes - Elizabeth Harmuth, Christina Govea, Traci Colon and Betsy Justice! Join me in thanking our Parent Leadership, the School Board, Parent Teacher Service Group, and Finance Committee, who received their copies of the WCEA Self-Study. These parents will be meeting with the Visiting Team when they come in February! It does take a village to raise a child. OLG is a wonderful village and the previous paragraph is only the tip of the iceberg of all who make that difference! Please mark your calendars for Sunday, January 21 for the beginning of our Catholic Schools Week! CSW Mass will be at 10:30 followed by Open House from 12:30-2:30. You parents are our best marketers! Next week we will send home some postcards for Open House. Please take a moment to share the postcard with a friend, a neighbor, at the dentist office or at your local food shopping area or at the newest residences in the area. For the soul Koulas Retelas, mother to Mr. Sam Retelas, Resource Director. May she rest in peace, accompanied by all the angels and saints. For Gabriel Anaya s (3 rd grade) aunt Maria who is battling cancer. May she be graced with strength to heal and overcome the cancer. For Leila Holmes (2 nd grade) mother who is recovering from two surgeries and still dealing with multiple aneurysms. May God give her strength and peace of mind as she heals and undergoes additional medical procedures. The OLG community is growing! Sina Adello (Kinder) has a new baby sister, Wuhbt Adello, born on December 31, Congratulations to Sina s parents, Mr. Yebo and Ms. Dessalegn as they welcome their daughter with joy. 2

3 Practice Schedule for the Spring Musical, Willy Wonka Practice for Kinder, 1 st and 2 nd grades: Wednesdays from 2 to 3pm. Practice for 3 rd and 4 th grades: Tuesdays from 3 to 4pm. Practice for Main Cast, 5 th 8 th grades: varies (based on the song and/or part of script that is the focus of the practice). Practice schedules are given to cast members and will also be posted on our website at: Beautification Day Work Party Saturday January 20, am 12pm Send an to kmurray@csdo.org if you are able to participate. The participating adults will receive service hours for helping out. Don t forget to mark your calendar! Please bring your own work gloves. If you can bring gardening tools, rags, a broom or a leaf blower, that would be great. Assistance Needed Are you able to help with transportation to and from girls CYO volleyball practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings? Leila Holmes, 2 nd grader, lives in Hayward and needs to get to practice in Fremont. Her dad, Dennis, is willing to meet halfway to get Leila to practice but needs to be at home with Leila s mom as much as possible as she is recovering from a recent hospitalization. Please contact the school office if you can help. 3

4 CYO TRACK & FIELD TEAM SIGN-UPS Track and Field is more than just running it s team relays, jumping, throwing, tossing, confidence building, and running. It s also a lot of fun and affordable! Our Lady of Guadalupe CYO Track and Field Team is now accepting registrations for the 2018 season for athletes in Kinder 8 th grade. Please click on the link for registration forms: Bring your registration forms to the Track & Field Parent Meeting on Thursday, January 18 th at OLG School at 6:30pm. ** All families of athletes should attend this meeting to meet the new coaches and coordinator, and to learn about changes for 2018 Track & Field season. For more information or receive an link to the registration forms, please contact Cynthia at cynthia.olavarria@sbcglobal.net A Thank You from Abode Services Jean Morgan, Community Outreach Director had the following to say in a recent letter addressed to Mrs. AnnMarie Silveira and Our Lady of Guadalupe School: Thank you and the students of the 1 st Grade, 6 th Grade and 7 th Grade at Our Lady of Guadalupe School for the wonderful donation of Blessing Bags with personal care items for the residents at Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter. Supporters like you help Abode Services improve the lives or more than 4,000 adults and children each year as we work to end homelessness. You are such a key part of our work. 4

5 Extended Care Statements Please note: Requests for year-end statements for Extended Care can be sent to OLG s Class of 2018 is Hosting a Fundraiser Dinner & Concert Featuring: Hookslide A Cappella WHEN: Friday, February 2, :00-8:30pm WHERE: OLG Parish Center Fremont Blvd COST: $30 per household for pasta dinner and concert. Service Hour Opportunities We need parents with their child/ren to help hand out Open House postcards after the Masses at OLG Church this weekend. If you can help, please contact the school office. Students helping and dressed school uniform may have Free Dress on Tuesday, January 16. We will be holding a work party/beautification day on Saturday, January 20 see page 3 for details If you are coaching or have a support role for a CYO team or you do a service at OLG church, please report those hours to the Service Hour coordinator at ologservicehours@yahoo.com. You can claim up to 20 parish-related service hours to count toward your school service hour requirement. Your room parents will be asking for donations toward classroom raffle baskets for the upcoming Crab Feed. A portion of your required service hours can be earned through donations. Go to for more details. The Crab Feed volunteer sign-ups will be online starting January 19 th. Check next week s bulletin for details. If you are interested in working with this year s Kitchen Committee chairperson at the Crab Feed to learn and take on the role of Kitchen Chair for next year, please contact the school office. 5

6 SAVE THE DATE for the annual OLG School Crab Feed! Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish Center The theme will be a Hawaiian Luau This event includes an all-you-can-eat Crab Feed and Pasta Dinner, Silent and Live Auctions, Raffle Baskets, Balloon Pop game, Bar, DJ, Photo Corner and Dancing! If you are interested in chairing one of our Crab Feed committees please see future bulletins for announcements of available opportunities and upcoming planning meetings. Online signups for volunteer positions will be available starting January 19, 2018 (new date). One committee that requires volunteers as soon as possible is the Solicitations committee. This team works to obtain donations from businesses to use in our auctions and raffle. If you are interested in being a part of this team, please contact the school office for more information. Thank you!! Tickets will go on sale starting Wednesday, January 17. Watch for the ticket order form in next week s bulletin! 6

7 Donations for Auction/Raffle Prizes The solicitation committee has begun to acquire donations for the Basket Raffle, Silent Auction and Live Auction at our annual Crab Feed but we need your help please! v Do you have or know someone who has a week or partial week in a timeshare or vacation home that you could donate? v Do you own a business or know someone that owns a business? Donations from a dentist, a doctor, a realtor, an insurance office, tax office, hair/nail salon, travel agency, spa, car wash, home cleaning service, etc., may be used as a tax-deductible donation. These may be in the form of a monetary donation, products, services or gift certificates. v Do you have extra Credit Card points that can be redeemed for products or gift cards that you would be willing to donate? A donation letter and donation form are available to provide to those wishing to make a donation. Please contact Karen Murray at kmurray@csdo.org to have the forms sent to you.
