1 Serving the Homeless since 1922 Annual Report Miami Rescue Mission, Inc. Miami BOC Hollywood BOC Pompano CARE (2273) Rev. Ronald Brummitt President
2 Our Mission Transform lives of homeless men, women and children through comprehensive residential programs to effect lasting change and empower them to be productive members of society. We provide food, shelter, substance abuse treatment, education, computer literacy, job placement, healthcare, spiritual development and housing with Christian love, compassion and encouragement. Our Vision No one is homeless. Through your generosity, we are able to meet the needs of poor, hungry and homeless people in South Florida. Because of our generous donors we currently care for over 1,100 men, women and children on a daily basis. Currently we have over 680 beds with additional cots for emergency services. We have to open another 78 beds in Miami in late 2012 or early Since our founding in 1922, the Miami Rescue Mission has continued to serve "the least, the last and the lost," and give them hope for a better life. Our doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide food, clothing and shelter, along with recovery programs and education for those who want to change their lives. Brand A pioneering Christian organization providing homeless men, women and children the best in spiritual and practical restoration to effect lasting and successful change. Page 3
3 Our Ministries Miami Dade Campus The Center for Men provides emergency services including nutritious meals, showers and a safe place to stay for the night. Transitional housing is also offered for those who need help in relocating in the community. Our Regeneration Program offers life changing opportunities for men who suffer from life controlling problems such as homelessness, chemical abuse or addiction, medical and mental issues, illiteracy, and lack of adequate job skills. This center has 260 beds serving over. The Community Activity Center is designed to meet the needs of Miami's youth. This new facility hosts a variety of enrichment programs from basketball to study hall. The Center for Women & Children is a haven for homeless women and families, which provides emergency overnight shelter as well as a long term recovery program. There are 50 beds provided at this center. The Jeffrey A. Tew Education Center offers state of the art education and computer technology training for those who want to improve academic skills and prepare for re entry into the job market. The Miami Rescue Health Clinic was opened May 2009 and provides basic healthcare and referral to specialists to our residents and the needy in our community. Since this opening there are two health clinic opening in Broward, plus a fourth clinic opening on the Miami Dade Medical Center campus. These clinics help the disenfranchised and also students who may not have the means for health exams before starting college. Broward Outreach Centers Broward Outreach Center/Hollywood (BOC) opened in 1992, was one of the first emergency shelters offering a comprehensive recovery program for the homeless in South Broward County. Clients are taught life skills, which help them develop goals for going back into the community as productive, tax paying citizens. A Center for Women and Children opened in 2004 in Hollywood, Florida, at 2038 Scott Street, right next door to BOC Hollywood. We now have a total of 160 beds at the Hollywood Center. Since 2002 BOC is also managing the Broward County North Homeless Assistance Center in Pompano Beach or called Broward Outreach Center/Pompano. The 220 bed facility operates a short term (six weeks) program adapted from the BOC Hollywood's successful eight month program. This center also has 10 rooms dedicated for intact families with mother and father and children. Our Pompano Health Clinic opened in November 2010 and in Hollywood Health Clinic in Spring Each clinic operates with one paid staff and by volunteer interns and physicians from various teaching colleges in the community. Presently the nearly 800 men and women Page 4
4 of our main centers (there is a constant flow of new clients) have been the focus of health clinic, but our immediate goals are to provide health services to the youth at The Center of Life Academy and the after school programs which both combined serve nearly 500 at risk kids of the inner city on a daily basis. We are going to include them and their parents as we continue to grow Calendar Year Overall Annual Statistics Bed Nights 315,000 Meals 725,000 Medical Services (Units) 92,500 Clothing & Furniture Distribution (pcs) 102,000 Students in Education Programs 2,850 Hours of Education 208,000 Job Placements 625 Number of Youth and Hours of Service 595/36,000 Volunteers 10,942 Volunteer Hours of Service 73,000 Page 5
