visit our websites: or Message of Thanks from the President Dear Friend, This message is surrounded by happy people. People who have been transformed by your compassion and generosity. So many changed lives in I m so thankful that our Centers in Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach were able to serve thousands and see many lives changed. In 2012 we were able to: Provide nearly 860,000 meals Provide over 344,000 nights of safe shelter Have 12,000 volunteers serve over 80,000 hours Provide over 190,00 hours of education Provide over 100,000 hours in counseling and life skills classes Help over 600 boys and girls in our out of school programs See over 9,600 patients in our medical clinics Help over 8,000 unemployed/underemployed with food, furniture, and clothing Brighten the lives of thousands on special holidays and outreaches See nearly 700 men and women graduate and enter the job market Provide over 73,000 hours of out of school services to youth The Graduation Celebration honors men and women who have worked hard to get their lives back on track and become successful. This would not be possible without your support and involvement. Our Vision is: No One is Homeless and together we can impact even more lives in Right now we are in the middle of our Operation Hope Tote Campaign (page 2) which provides hygiene products to those that we serve throughout the year. On March 29th, we ll be hosting our Great Thanksgiving in March outreach that will impact thousands of lives in Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach. We are also anticipating opening the new Miami Center for Men Annex in late March or early April. This will allow us to serve an additional 78 men. (page 7) Another great project is acquiring a safe and affordable multiplex home for graduates of our Center for Women. A special group called Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends is raising awareness and funding for the project. We plan to open the first in 2013 (page 7). I am so thankful for you and so many others that are concerned about people in our communities. Special blessings to you and your loved ones. All the very best in Rev. Ronald Brummitt 2 Thank You For Your Support, Your Gifts Express Compassion in Action for Those in Need

Everyday, Lives are being Changed With Your Support! Help the Homeless With Operation Hope Tote Filling this little bag can make a BIG difference in the life of a homeless person. A HOPE TOTE is a small, purple bag that can be filled with inexpensive/unused items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tissues, socks and even underwear. These simple, basic products help those living on the streets clean up and feel more like themselves. We know that when someone feels better, they are in a better position to make other changes like getting involved with our full-scale recovery programs. Imagine providing the hope of a better tomorrow to someone who has been sleeping on the sidewalk for months! How many bags can you fill today? Go to our websites: or to order bags online. Or call Maria Chavez at We will send them to you and can schedule a pick up of large hope tote drives. Hope is the beginning of change. This is a great way for you, your business, school, place of worship, or organization to help us serve over 1,200 men, women, and children every day. Items are used throughout the year and are given out to everyone during our community outreaches (see page 7 ). Hope Tote Items Toothbrushes Toothpaste Combs Soap Shampoo Deodorant Socks Razors Look At Me Now - Johanz s Journey Smiling Once Again - Lorraine s Amazing Change I look back on my journey of coming to the Miami Rescue Mission. I hated being here in the beginning. I remember when I wanted to kill myself and even told my family that everyone would be better off if I were dead. I hated myself and was very depressed. I have children who I let down. Parents that I have let down. Friends that I have let down. There was no reason for me to come here. My family wanted me to come into the program but I just didn t want any change. I was in a black hole and did not have any idea of how I would get out. I actually came here to please them, and it s the best thing that could have happened to me. This place has given me the opportunity to know God. I can t believe that I m here today. My life has totally changed. Today my children are here. My family is here. Friends are here. I came in here wanting to end it all, but look at me now. Johanz My drug usage was becoming out of control and I started doing many things that I knew were wrong. I felt trapped and didn t know what to do or where to go. Thanks to some friends and people at Potential Church, I came to the Broward Outreach Center. I didn t know what to expect, but the staff was very good to me and helped guide me in my recovery. I am also thankful to God for making a way for me. I really liked all of the classes that I took. It s hard to just pick one class over another, but I really enjoyed and learned a lot through the eight principles that form the core of the program. BOC has brought out the best in me. Today, I have a new lease on life and can smile. I feel great and plan to continue with my new life. Being here today in a cap and gown and celebrating with so many others is fantastic. Thanks to everyone that has had a part in helping me. Lorraine Remember the Miami Rescue Mission Broward Outreach Centers in your will or estate. 3

MOVING F 140 Formerly Homeless Men an Bishop Dr. Donald Clarke is the Senior Pastor at Harvest Fire Worship Center. Recognized for his expertise in banking principles and dynamic speaking skills, he often lectures on corporate financial lending worldwide. His fervor to change and influence the lives of others is evident among the parishioners of Harvest Fire and the local and international churches he oversees. Dr. Clarke charged the graduates to continue to Move Forward in their lives. Just as a caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly, so must the graduates now live their new lives. Jimmy Cefalo, is an American Journalist, news and sports broadcaster, radio talk show host, voice of the Miami Dolphins, businessman, wine enthusiast and former professional NFL wide receiver. Jimmy is well known for the 6 seasons he played with the Miami Dolphins. His morning show on WIOD 610 AM is climbing as a South Florida favorite show. Jimmy told the graduates to follow their dreams. He came from humble but strong family values, and encouraged the men and women to continue to fight life s daily battles and to not forget their tremendous success. Broward Commissioner and Vice Mayor of Broward, Barbara M. Sharief, spoke to the graduates concerning perseverance and not letting your past life hold you back from accomplishing great things. Commissioner Sharief told of her own struggles growing up poverty, family tragedy, and homelessness. She is a strong advocate for the plight of the homeless and is presently serving on the Broward Homeless Initiative Partnership among other Boards. Ms. Sharief overcame her early struggles and founded South Florida Pediatric Homecare, Inc. 4 Life Changing Centers are located in Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach. You are welcome to come take a tour.

d Women Celebrate Graduation ORWARD 140 formerly homeless men and women graduated from the Miami Rescue Mission/Broward Outreach Centers in a cap and gown ceremony that was witnessed by well over 500 friends, families, and supporters. The graduation marked the first step in what has become a lifetime of redemption for so many. Many of the men and women that were celebrating this graduation day came to one of our Centers broken in spirit and body. There was no hope for their lives. Many had severed ties with family and friends due to their homelessness. This was a great day of celebration! Those in attendance were treated to a heartfelt and inspirational afternoon that included performances by the Regeneration Tabernacle Choir, a group of men comprised entirely of the formerly homeless; the Deep Fried Funk Band founded by David Jody Hill and has performed at the White House; MQV Dancers, a group that pantomimes to music in an unbelievable way; and Shanier Souffrant, an accomplished singer who performs throughout South Florida. Encouraging words were given from current Miami Rescue Mission/Broward Outreach Centers staff, Broward Commissioner and Vice Mayor of Broward, Barbara M. Sharief, well known news and sports broadcaster, Jimmy Cefalo, as well as graduate testimonies that detailed their personal struggles from hopelessness to the bright future they now have today. What an honor it was to have such great performers and speakers. Every graduate was very grateful for this very special day. Bishop Dr. Donald Clarke, Senior Pastor of Harvest Fire Worship Center, gave a special message. Dr. Clarke came from an early life of extreme poverty. When he came to America, he was completely destitute. He shared his early experiences of homelessness and charged the graduates to now become butterflies and soar into their new lives. He has been a partner of the Miami Centers for many years. His church has helped many of our graduates to continue to grow in their new lives. This is a celebration of their hard work, conviction and perseverance. To be part of their hope-filled lives and share their accomplishments is an incredible honor as we see thousands of lives changed on our three campuses. It was very moving to see the graduates in their cap and gowns and that energizes us to continue to believe in people. To know that men and women are now able to be restored and have real hope for their future, said President Rev. Ronald Brummitt. All of these inspirational stories would not have come true without your amazing support and dedication in helping those who need it the most. We are proud to say that with your help and that of the community, we are striving toward Our Vision: No One is Homeless! Let us continue to see lives restored and transformed in Our Vision: No One is Homeless Donate Online At: miamirescuemission.com or browardoutreachcenter.com 5

Life Changing Centers are located in Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Beach. You are welcome to come take a tour. Volunteers and S upporters H elp Change L ives Over 12,000 volunteers provided acts of service at our Miami, Hollywood, and Pompano Centers in Businesses and organizations helped raise additional funds for our programs. It is especially heart warming when we see so many young people get involved and want to help those that are in great need. We are also seeing more college students get involved. The bottom line is that we could not do all the things we do for the homeless and needy without our volunteers and supporters. Special Thanks to Everyone that Helps the Homeless Top Left: Girl Scouts South East Florida Troop collected food, hope tote bags, blankets and clothing items for the Hollywood Center. Top Right: Chris Clark, Director of Human Resources, and Jorge Gonzalez, General Manager, presented a special donation by Mandarin Oriental Hotel of Miami. Middle Left: The Miami Heat sponsored their annual Thanksgiving outreach, providing nearly 600 full dinners to those in need. Middle Right: City of Tamarac received a Certificate of Appreciation for their support at the Pompano Campus. Bottom Left: Abundant Life Christian Center adopted 3 families at Christmas for Pompano. Bottom Right: Potential Church held its annual Flip Us A Bird Thanksgiving Drive at all of its locations. Over 1,500 turkeys, hams, and pies were donated. Without our partners in the community, we could never do all the things we do to help those in the greatest of need. The above volunteers and supporters are just a few of our great friends who give of their time and finances to help the homeless through our Centers. To learn more about volunteering or getting involved, visit our websites. Our Supporters are the greatest people in the world! 6 Remember the Miami Rescue Mission Broward Outreach Centers in your will or estate.

Tune in Sunday Mornings at 8 AM on 610 WIOD AM for our Mission Possible Program - It s all good news Outreach Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends Housing Luncheon Great Thanksgiving in March 2013 Outreach On Friday, March 29th, our centers will have a special outreach to the homeless and needy. This outreach is also to bring about awareness that homelessness is a year round problem. Visit out websites to find out how to donate or volunteer. Nearly 2,500 men, women, and children will be served. Visit our websites for more information. Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends Providing Safe and Affordable Housing Reintegrating back into the world is a time consuming and often costly measure for women who have completed the Center for Women and Children s residential program. Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends goal is to establish safe and affordable housing for these women. The first multiplex housing unit is expected to be opened this year. You can be a Girlfriend by pledging $50 a year or $5 per month. YOU will receive a GIRLFRIENDS 4 GIRLFRIENDS pink wristband. To find out more, go to or contact Marilyn Brummitt at marilynb@caringplace.org or call Michael Capponi (Capponi Construction) with Marilyn Brummitt (MRM Development Director) Expansion Project Nearing Completion to Serve More Homeless A press conference was held last November to fully announce the new Miami Center for Men Annex that will expand the ability to serve more homeless. It s located at 2031 NW 1st Court - directly behind the original building which can be seen in the background. The above picture is how the building will look when completed. This new building will allow us to provide an additional 78 residential beds for men who are enrolled in the Regeneration Program as well as provide meeting rooms, offices, and general assembly areas. There are more younger homeless and in the last few years, more people have come for services due to the economy, lack of work, evictions, and other factors. We are thankful for funding from a grant award we received from FHLBank Atlanta s Affordable Housing Program and from very special donors to get this needed expansion off the ground. Capponi Construction has been a great partner in other projects and is spearheading the expansion. There is a great need of additional funding. The expected opening will be in late of March or early April. You are invited to come and see this great project in person - call or info@caringplace.org. You will be invited to the Grand Opening as soon as we set the date. visit our websites: or 7

Volunteer and Help Change Lives - visit miamirescuemission.com or browardoutreachcenter.com to learn more A Thankful Supporter We are so thankful to all of our donors and supporters. Angela became a supporter by her involvement with her company. She became a volunteer and began to support helping the homeless financially. She never thought that she would have a family member become homeless and need help. I called about my uncle and made arrangements to get him into the long term program. What a relief to my family. He completed the program and everyone is very proud of him. My uncle is very grateful for all the help he received. I knew that I was helping others and am very happy that my small donations are making such a difference. Your Support helps so many hurting and homeless men, women, and children. Don t forget to check out our great Auto Auction where you can find amazing cars, motorcycles and even boats on the first Saturday of every month. Inspection begins at 8 AM and the auction starts at 10 AM. We accept donations of cars, boats, recreational vehicles, cycles, and most things with wheels. We just need to have a valid title. Some vehicles are used in our Centers. For donations and more information, call or visit our websites. Receipts for tax purposes are provided for your life-saving donations. Help us feed the hungry, care for the poor and change lives each and every day! Gifts of personal property that are in good condition may be what the Mission could use in our various centers, or it may be something that could be sold/used to finance our emergency and residential programs. Remember, your donations are tax deductible!
