1 In this Issue ANFP 2008/2016 Diamond Chapter Fall 2017 President's Message p.1 Presidentelect's Message p.2 Important Dates p. 3 Legislative Report p. 4 Ways & Means Report p. 4 Board Minutes pgs 4 & 5 Treasurer's Report p. 5 Executive Committee p. 6 Educational Opportunity p. 7 Happy Fall! I am looking forward to our meeting, October 5th and 6th, in Altoona. I am hoping to see many of you in attendance! Our Chapter goals are to continue providing support in getting CDMs in our Iowa healthcare communities, promoting wellness, and supporting educational opportunities and scholarships. Our chapter has been working in collaborative efforts with the healthcare associations, DMACC's culinary students and of course with our rock star CDM students! Watch the IANFP Facebook page for job postings, educational & scholarship opportunities and our blast s. Please remember to let Sharon Vermeer know if you change addresses so you don't miss out! As always we need volunteers to help keep our chapter running strong. Look for opportunities noted later in this newsletter. See you next month in Altoona! Chris Rehmer, CDM, CFPP IANFP President Partnership Award p. 7 Vision & Mission p. 8 The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership. Harvey S. Firestone 1
2 Hello Everyone! The weather is cooling down a bit and some of the leaves are beginning to change. Your Education Committee has worked very hard to present a good program for you this fall. The workshop will be held October 5th & 6th at Prairie Meadows in Altoona. The agenda includes 2 1/2 CEUs for sanitation. This is higher than usual because the required CEUs for sanitation was increased by the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers. The agenda also includes speakers on ethics, hiring, QAPI, F-tags, CMS Regulations and DIA updates, malnutrition and humor in the workplace. We will once again be having a blood drive and chair massages as part of our community outreach and wellness efforts this year. This is a well-rounded workshop that has something for everyone. I hope to see many of you there! Pam Carberry, CDM, CFPP IANFP President-elect Don't Worry - Be Happy! Have you ever noticed that the very last song you hear gets stuck in your brain? That can be good - or bad. Some songs make you feel good, while others make you feel down. Some songs remind you of happy times, while others remind you of not-so-good times. Songs can have a powerful effect on our mood. So, use it to your benefit and find yourself a "theme song" - something that will help keep you relieve stress and keep your attitude positive. Then have a Zippity-do-dah day! DATES TO REMEMBER: 1. Credentialing Exam is now offered on a demand basis 2. Iowa ANFP Fall Meeting/Workshop Prairie Meadows - October 5 &,6, Pride in Foodservice Week - February 5-9, Membership Appreciation Week - April 2-6, Hunger Week - April 9-13, Annual Conference and Expo (ACE) June 1-4, 2018 Orlando, FL 2
3 IOWA PRIDE!!! Barbara Thomsen IANFP Spokesperson New Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds, was installed this summer. At this time, we are not sure what her direction will be regarding healthcare reform. It is hoped that she will support Medicaid expansion for elderly services. Sandra Frahm, RD, with Iowa DIA, will be presenting on CMS Phase II regulations at our fall meeting. Clarification has been requested on how Iowa will interpret the November 2017 deadline requirement for CDMs to be employed in all Medicare/Medicaid LTC facilities. It is questioned whether citations will occur if the food service director is not a CDM but is actively enrolled in a CDM program. CMS has yet to release the Scope and Severity ratings for the Surveyors New Survey Interpretive Guidelines. There is no legislative activity on the national level of ANFP at this time. Barbara Thomsen, CDM, CFPP barbaraleethomsen@mchsi.com By Julie Stork CDM, CFPP-IANFP Ways & Means Chair On behalf of IANFP, I would like to express my gratitude for all the generosity from members bringing in fun and creative baskets, donations to add to baskets, and silent auction items. As a result of your generosity and participation, $760 was raised during our one-day meeting! For the fall meeting we plan to raffle off $100 the first day. Members may want to purchase their tickets early this year to get in on that. The second day, we will raffle off a $100 gift card. Tickets for these drawings are $2 or 3/$5. All tickets not drawn on the first day will remain in the basket, so yes, it is possible to win both of these unless you only attend the first day. We will also have some silent auction items to bid on and one of these items will be some LuLaRoe leggings in the new larger size. If you have a silent auction item to donate, let me know what the starting bid should be when you bring it in. As always, general basket raffle tickets are $1 or 6/$5. Thanks for all your support for IANFP! Julie Stork, CDM, CFPP 3
