1 Service-To-Go Fleece Scarves United Way of Larimer County invites you to help Homeless Gear of Fort Collins in their mission to provide homeless men, women and children with the supplies that they need to survive on the streets and the support and companionship that they need to navigate the path from homelessness to self-sufficiency by creating a Fleece Scarf. These scarves do much more than just provide Homeless Gear clients with warmth in winter; they are a reminder of how much the Larimer County community cares. Photo curtsey of: mysanantonio.com

2 What is the Impact? Homeless Gear Homeless Gear is a non-profit agency that primarily serves homeless families and adults in the Fort Collins area. Homeless Gear collects outdoor gear, outdoor basic clothing, non-perishable or readily consumable food and hygiene items and redistributes them to the homeless. They strive to make the days more bearable and the nights survivable for homeless men, women, youth, and children as they struggle to regain self sufficiency. These scarves will assist Homeless gear in achieving that goal by helping the homeless in Larimer county stay warm throughout the cold Colorado winter. United Way of Larimer County United Way of Larimer County is a non-profit organization that leads the community to meet the needs of those in need through partnering with agencies like the Larimer Humane Society, businesses, schools, local government and people like you, to change the lives in our community. Together we know we can make a difference - we can LIVE UNITED. We are focused on creating opportunities for a better life for all in Larimer County. We believe that Education, Income, and Health are the building blocks for a good quality life. With the collective impact of all of us working together, we will have far-reaching, long-lasting results that broaden the path of opportunity and build a more vibrant community. And, You! Larimer County is ranked 5 th nationally in similar sized counties for its rate of volunteerism because of people like you. Thank you for believing in our vision of good life for all in Larimer County..

3 Fleece Scarves Details Purpose The purpose of this project is to create fleece scarves for Homeless Gear to distribute to the men, women, and children living without a home in Larimer county. These fleece scarves are a simple way to say Thinking of you. Don t fret about matching a template or making the perfect scarf, this is a project that encourages your creativity and is a way to show how much you care. Materials Medium-weight polar fleece (any color ) Scissors Ruler/ tape measurer Instructions 1. Using sharp scissors cut a piece of medium-weight polar fleece to 9 by 60 inches (60 inches is the standard width of most fleece fabrics). Cut the fabric across its width so that it stretches when you pull on the ends of the scarf. *Be sure to trim off the edge binding on the ends 2. Cut fringes along the 9 inch end. Make them 3 inches long and ½ inch thick. 3. Curl each fringe around your finger and pull sharply. 4. Then release for a curled fringe.

4 Next Steps Once you have created your Fleece Scarves, please contact us to verify arrangements before dropping off all completed materials (including reflection page below) at the United Way of Larimer County Office. If you are unable to make it to the office, please contact us to make alternative arrangements. Our office location and contact is below. United Way of Larimer County 424 Pine Street, Suite 102 Fort Collins, CO : Thank you for participating in Service-To-Go!
