2 Chapter s Current Activities 1) The Chapter president Markus Schomaker attended the SPIE Leadership Workshop in San Diego. Furthermore, he presented a poster during the Optics&Photonics conference. 2) We set up a homepage for our SPIE Chapter which is accessible under 3) Shortly after the foundation of our chapter, we visited the Christmas market in Hanover as a social kickoff- meeting. 4) Within the Visiting Lecturer Program, Mr. Jean-Luc Doumont visited our chapter to give a workshop on Structuring your research paper followed by a lecture on Making the most of your presentation. Afterwards, we conducted a lab tour for Mr. Doumont in our institute. 5) Student members introduced junior high school students to the research field of biomedical optics at the so-called Future day. 6) Chapter members visited the Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH company in Goettingen, Germany to learn about career requirements and opportunities and to attend a guided tour through the production facilities. 7) The chapter carried out a summer barbecue for its members to talk about the achievements during the past year and future activities in a more casual environment. Furthermore, new student members were recruited. 8) We started an interesting, funded project called Living Laser which is sought to combine fundamental knowledge of both biology and optics. It serves as a student project and is planned to be a part of next year s Optics Outreach Olympics. Chapter s Future Activities 1) Meet the Berlin Optik Student Chapter to carry out a workshop on possible joined activities in the near future. 2) Visit the Olympus GmbH company in Hamburg, Germany. 3) Set up optics experiments as an eye-catcher for high school students to trigger their interest for optical technologies as possible future career paths. 4) Chapter Vice President Anja Hansen is going to attend the SPIE Leadership Workshop 2011 in San Diego.
