5 Chapter activities Opening meeting On May 2015, We invited Prof. Jianping Yao (Fellow of IEEE and OSA, member of SPIE) from University of Ottawa to participate this meeting and give us academic lectures. Prof. Yao also gave us some valuable suggestions. Member meeting On 15 Jun. 2014, we organized the first member meeting, during which we discussed the work plan of the first year. 4

6 Outdoor activity On 2 Oct. 2014, we organized a BBQ in Gulin Park, Nanjing. All the members in our chapter took part in this activity to enjoy the delicious food. Invited Lecture On 12 Nov. 2014, we invited Dr. Guoqing Chang from the Center for free electron laser (CFEL) at Hamburg (Germany) to give us a lecture entitled Fewcycle optics in laser frequency combs for precision metrology: astro-combs and beyond. Dr. Chang presented some key ultrafast laser technologies in implementing broadband visible-wavelength frequency combs with multi-ghz comb spacing and shown a prefect application enabled by such frequency combs to support the search for earth-sized rocky exoplanets ( astro-combs ). 5

7 Attending International Conference Photonics West 2015, San Francisco, CA, USA On 6 Feb. 2015, Zhenzhou Tang, president of our chapter, attended the 2015 Photonics West and SPIE Student Chapter Leadership Workshop in San Francisco under the support of the Officer Travel Grant of SPIE International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP2014) During Oct. 2014, Zhenzhou Tang and Jianbin Fu, members of our chapter, attended the 2014 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP2014) with our advisor in Sapporo, Japan. Our chapter supported a small part of the cost. 6

8 2014 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP2014) During Nov. 2014, Menghao Huang, Yamei Zhang and Xingwei Ye, three members of our chapter, went to Shanghai to attend the 2014 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP2014), a SPIE sponsored conference. Our chapter supported the travelling cost from Nanjing to Shanghai. 7

9 Other activities Factory tour On 1 Nov. 2014, we attended a factory tour to JiangSu Zhongtian Technology Co., Ltd and Hengtong Optic-electric Co., Ltd. We also attended an academic forum about the submarine optical communication. The 2015 Optical Forum of International Year of Light in USTC On 11 Jan. 2015, the 2015 Optical Forum of International Year of Light was held in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Anhui. Three members of our chapter were invited to attend this forum. We also presented a poster to introduce our chapter. 8

10 WeChat promotion To promote our chapter, we applied a WeChat account (one of the most popular online communication platform in China) to release and share the news to the members. 9

11 Future activities Attend OSA/SPIE Annual Conference and Innovation of Chinese Student and Entrepreneurship Achievement Contest Conference in Wuhan, on 15 Jun Attend International OSA Network of Students (IONS) Nanjing 2015 in Nanjing University on 10 Jul Attend the 2015 International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN2015) in Nanjing on 4 Jul All our chapter members will be the volunteers. Organize more outdoor activities, such as the badminton game, to enhance the relationship between our members. Apply the Visiting Lecturer Grant to invite some famous experts and professors to give lectures. Try to support more chapter members to attend the international conference. 10
