Learn more about our programs, leadership opportunities, fundraising, and much more. Talk to a council member and watch your for details to follow.
The latest news and updates President's Message by Swede Salo Alumni, hope this note finds everyone in good health and spirits. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that helped with the many needs at the State Convention this past March. Another example of Alumni doing what Alumni does best. support, we are the worker bee s! School is almost out for the summer, graduation, livestock shows, fairs, hay season, baseball and the state fair will fill the next several months. Congratulations to the seniors and their families for reaching this important milestone and good luck with all your future plans. The State Alumni Team plans to be out and about at many of these summer activities and we hope to have a chance to visit and share ideas. We recently had our annual State planning retreat in Sisters and have a busy year planned out. Our VP s are working hard to visit with every local Alumni Chapter. We will be participating in meetings with the Foundation and OATA. We will be working on our latest initiative for a superior local Alumni Chapter for recognition at next years State Convention and hopefully for National recognition. Please ask any of the VP s for details and watch information on our Facebook page. It is a honor and pleasure to be associated with all the Alumni folks around the state, our State Alumni Team and everyone that is involved with this program a great family. As always, I end with this thought: The Alumni s job is to support our Ag Teachers, the Ag programs, the schools, administration and share in the success of the young adults that make up the largest student lead program that we call the FFA the future of Agriculture. Please contact any of us anytime, we are always available.
State President, Swede Salo Canby, Oregon and the Canby Alumni Chapter Ag programs in our high schools are one of the few places we can expose young people to the world of production agriculture. The FFA programs help develop the leadership skills, CDE programs, SAE experiences and many more opportunities to help shape the future agriculturists. We need strong support for these young adults that s why we do what we do. State President Elect, Tom Rutledge Sandy, Oregon and the Sandy Alumni Chapter Like lots of others I have been able to experience what FFA is all about. As a past member and parent of three past members. I have seen what this organization can do for its members. Not only how it benefits them during their time as an FFA member but for the rest of their lives. I want to help keep the program growing and strong in Oregon. So we can better help the students and their supporters in FFA.
State Past President, Robert Schmidig Scio, Oregon and the Scio Alumni Chapter FFA and Agricultural Education has played a significant role in my life. I met my wife, Margie, who was an Ag teacher through FFA. My brother is an Ag Teacher as well as my niece. I decided to serve on the council to help Agricultural Education programs understand the support alumni could give them. I also enjoy cooking chicken with fellow alumni. State Treasurer, Kristy Hartsell Turner, Oregon and the Cascade Alumni Chapter The FFA impacted me by opening my eyes to many different opportunities and allowing me to gain new leadership skills. I want to be able to stay in touch with the FFA and serve the students that don t always have opportunities to grow and learn. I encourage members to take every opportunity, even if they don t think they will like it, as it just might open a new door for them or surprise them as that may be their best untapped potential.
It is time to give back. I believe all interested students should have the opportunity to explore what FFA has to offer. The FFA Alumni helps chapters remove barriers for those interested students. State Secretary, Debbie Price Oakland, Oregon and the Sutherlin Alumni Chapter I did not "FFA" growing up. I have watched my children go through the program and witnessed the way done right, FFA benefits students of all shapes and grows leaders and character. That is something I am happy to support. I decided to serve on the council to help Agricultural Education programs understand the support alumni could give them. Even if it is simply cooking chicken, I am glad to help FFA members. State Reporter, Emily Battilega Canby, Oregon The FFA taught me the importance of agriculture. Beyond receiving that knowledge, I learned life skills that allowed me to succeed in school, a career, and life. FFA allowed me to pursue all of my passions..
State Regional Vice President, Caitlyn Kautz Salem, Oregon and the Central FFA Chapter I'm going to school to become an Ag Teacher and I'm a professional wedding photographer. FFA was a huge part of me when I was in high-school, it gave me confidence and the leadership skills needed to succeed in life. I love being able to serve and help FFA students thrive. I am a huge part of my home chapter and I wanted to be able to help and impact more in the FFA which is why I decided to serve on the council. State Regional Vice President, Jennifer Oppenlander Madras, Oregon and the Madras Alumni Chapter The FFA impacted me by giving my children amazing skills, confidence and leadership abilities to help them throughout their life. Along with many connections through out Oregon and beyond. I wanted to give back to the organization that gave so much to my family. I love working with students and this another way to be involved.
State Regional Vice President, Karie Kelly Cove, Oregon FFA was a huge part of my life growing up, I taught Agriculture at Gervais for 5 years. I know the importance of a good alumni and how much support they can offer a program. Alumni s can make or break FFA chapters. They are so important to have for the success of chapters State Regional Vice President, Erik Karn Cornelius, Oregon and the Hillsboro Alumni Chapter FFA and Alumni have helped me to realize the value in the statement Live to serve and that if we have the ability we have the responsibility to teach, mentor, advocate and volunteer to promote student success through Agricultural Education. I wanted to be a part of a great organization doing great things for students. As a young person I didn t have the opportunity to be a part of FFA. My kids introduced me to FFA when they were in high school and I was nominated to chaperone at Oregon FFA state convention in Hermiston in I was so impressed by the work ethic, camaraderie and achievements these students from all over the state showed I just had to learn more about this Organization. I am happy to say, I have continued to learn and I m ever more impressed by Oregon FFA and its supporters, FFA Foundation and Alumni.
She s a former FFA member from the Scio chapter who enjoyed the marketing plan and milk quality CDEs. Brooke is a seventh generation agriculturalist who grew up on a blackberry farm. In college, she served as the OSU collegiate FFA president and as an ag ambassador for OSU College of Ag. Brooke notes that, promoting agriculture has always been a priority to me. I am excited to work for an organization with such a proud history. State Regional Vice President, Myles Ralston Scio, Oregon Myles has been involved in the state council for the past couple of years. He loves helping out new affiliates gain traction in their communities. Myles is always one of the first to volunteer for any opportunity to help FFA members from meetings to cooking meals and anything in between. State Administrative Assistant, Brooke Broadbent Brooke Broadbent joined existing state executive secretary, Lee Letsch in the Oregon FFA Office as the new administrative assistant full time September of Brooke is an Oregon State University graduate with a degree in Agricultural Sciences.
Meet your State FFA Staff State Executive Secretary, Lee Letsch Dallas, Oregon FFA impacted me, not only as a member, but as an employee. I get the opportunity to work with amazing students, advisors and stakeholders each and every day. I get to watch state officers impact members in the classroom and watch those members go on to impact others. The impact that FFA and the Ag industry has on the next generation to become leaders, decision makers, and policy holders is so important, to be able to watch that everyday and assist in a small part of it, is simply amazing. Why to Become Involved: Get involved. These students and chapter advisors need our support. Even if you can't make monthly meetings and your schedule is hectic, check in with your local Ag teacher and see if they need help. It may be reading manuscripts, helping a student develop interview skills or simply picking up something from the store. Just get involved, no matter how small.
