2 MEETING REPORT: ATTENDANCE. President Peter opened the meeting with perfect punctuality and welcomed thirty-four (34) members (79%) to the meeting. Guests including Nathon Irvin and Mehwish Adnan (our Key-Note Speakers), members guests, Peter Murray (Alok Sharma), Gail Smith (Ellen Brasier), Syed Hussein & Nosrut Jahan (Alan Lean) were introduced and welcomed. And Valentine s Day was noted. Ten apologies were recorded, they being: - Bill Prest, Bruce Barber, Bryan Short, Gerry Page, Karel Bijker, Mike Murray, Neil Hilpern, Paul Galloway, Rob Sharkie & Tony Hutchinson. ADMINISTRATION MATTERS. President Peter reported that: Nepal Ghosh was present and is now recovered. Board members are reminded that the next Board Meeting is Wednesday 20th February 5-45 PM to 7-15 PM. Rotary Peace Ceremony is at 6.00 PM on Sunday 24th February in the Victory Memorial Gardens, all members are encouraged to attend 'decked out in' their Club Polo Shirts. Please note that our meeting on 28th February will be a very special night. The program is a bit of a secret you will need to be there to ascertain the details. PP Ellen will have tickets next week for the Polio Plus Movie Night. Swimming With Men. It is to be screened at the local cinema on Friday 1st March cost $20-00 per person (so bring your money along next week). Alok is travelling to India on 15th March for a Darkness to Light screening camp. Members are invited to to accompany him on this project and will be most welcome. PP Elaine reinforced the invitation for all to attend District Conference in Griffith 29th to 31st March. The focus is on women and Rotary a very strong program. Register online. PP Ellen reminds about renewals of Working With Children checks please forward confirmations to Ellen when completed. PE David reported that the Public Image Seminar he attended with Ellen in Young last Sunday was very worthwhile. The Rotary Brand Centre website is accessible to all members and is a very useful resource. Consistent images/fonts in all media publications are crucial to Rotary s future. FINES-MASTER SESSION. Or should that be Fines-Mistress. Vida is a rapid learner of the fine art of extracting financial tribute, all were cleaned out for birthdays, anniversaries, Valentines (whether actual or not). She noted Valentine day s origins; did you know that 3% of pet owners give a Valentine s to their pet? She concluded on a literary note with a poem. A fine job, well done - and that microphone is looking very comfortable. SHORT & SWEET. Alok was uncharacteristically short but very sweet; a message of love and kindness narrated by Alok. A favour given and a favour returned. A fee for services paid in full with one glass of milk. RAFFLE WINNER. A kind welcome back for our erstwhile Treasurer Nepal Ghosh who collected a bottle of red to share with Dipa.

3 . KEY-NOTE SPEAKER. Alan Lean very happily introduced Nathon Irvin who outlined his role with TAFE and also the Leadership Award that our Rotary Club provides for a local TAFE student. Nathon is originally a Mangoplah boy, with AFL and broad sporting experience. He has worked in local TV management for some years, and is now with TAFE as the Service Co-Ordinator for numerous campuses throughout the region. TAFE continues to adapt to the changing needs of skills development, with staff living in the local towns and also often still working in their trades. Nathan provided images of the new major focus connected learning centres which are set up with advanced technological facilities to enable remote learning, and even virtual reality i.e. simulated training, with applications so far in welding and in logging skills. Lots of flexible learning responsive to the needs of local employers. Trades courses are in high demand, with emphasis currently on heavy vehicles, agricultural equipment, allied health services, hair and beauty services, and more recently cybersecurity has become popular. Our Leadership Award last year was given to Mehwish Adnan, for her latest qualification in Hair & Beauty (In Wagga 60 students graduate each year). Mehwish was accompanied tonight by her proud husband and mother. Mehwish with her family came to Australia from Pakistan, and spent time in Darwin and Tumut before settling in Wagga. She already had a Science Degree (Pakistan) and a Teaching Diploma (Toronto) and spoke very passionately about her life and learning, she has a great hunger to improve herself and so is inclined to volunteer for everything! We can be proud that our award will go to good use. Nathon and Mehwish were sincerely thanked by Lyndal Seymour, and presented with a Certificate acknowledging our contribution to polio vaccination on their behalf. NEXT MEETING: Next week sees us again at the Wagga Country Club where we will welcome Ross Tyson as our Key-Note Speaker. Ross is the editor of the Wagga Daily Advertiser and will provide a rundown on the current problems and opportunities being experienced by regional newspapers especially in light of the recent change in ownership rules recently introduced by our government. I believe that Ross is keen to address questions from the floor so do your homework. In these days of constant change, this is sure to be an enlightening presentation and will, no doubt appeal to guests. If you have a guest/s please ensure that you notify numbers for catering. We are indeed very fortunate in being able to enjoy high quality Key-Note Speakers and we express our gratitude to the Programmes Committee headed by David Cannon. If you have any suggestions for future speakers please discuss them with David. FEBRUARY IS ROTARY PEACE & CONFLICT PREVENTION/RESOLUTION MONTH: Did you know that each year, Rotary International awards up to 100 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the fellows into experienced and effective catalysts for peace. In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,200 fellows. Many of them now serve as leaders at international organizations or have started their own foundations.

4 CENTURION CLUB: Make the Rotary Foundation your Charity of Choice Become a Centurion. The Centurion Club was the brainchild of our own Club member, Peter Walsh PDG who saw the need to establish a programme similar to "Every Rotarian EveryYear". District 9700 has taken over this project following Peter's untimely death. Centurions pledge $(AUD) each year to the Rotary Foundation (Your donation can be directed to PolioPlus if you wish). How to become a Centurion You can become a Centurion by making a tax deductable contribution of $ (AUD) (or more) per annum whilst ever you are in a position to do so. Your contribution supports the work of the Rotary Foundation. Fifty percent of the donated money comes back to the District after three years and is used in developing our Foundation projects. This is a very easy way of getting into the habit of making a personal contribution to The Rotary Foundation our own Charity. Why should you support this charity: 1. All of the funds (100%) are used for Areas of Focus projects both locally and internationally there is no deduction for administration etc. 2. The money is paid into the Australian Rotary Trust Fund making your contribution tax deductible. 3. All contributions from Rotarians count towards your Club s annual giving total. 4. Your donation is picked up as part of our the District s contribution resulting in 50% of the contribution coming back to our District to use as support funds for the programs we want to support. 5. Half of your donation comes back to our District in three years time to support District Grants, Global Grants, Vocation Training Teams, Areas of Focus Scholarships 6. Donations count towards Paul Harris Fellow recognition to be awarded by our Club. To support this project, simply print out and complete the form attached to this Bulletin then return it to Philip Cross (Centurion Coordinator for Wagga Rotary Club) either with your remittance (payable to The Australian Rotary Foundation Trust) - or alternatively arrange for periodic deductions from your nominated bank account. Partners of Rotarians as well as private individuals (family/friends etc.) can also participate in the program and their support is most welcome. Please provide prospective donors with a copy of the attached form. RETRACTION: Occasionaly your Bulletin Editor inserts an intentional error, just to see who actually reads this 'award-winning' periodical. Congratulations to President Peter and Alan Lean who both picked up the error in last weeks edition relating to the meeting scheduled for the 14th March. The venue has, in fact, been constructed to accommodate Harness Racing - not greyhounds as reported.
