Call All-Hands: Charity Event LORI s CORNER: A Message from our President Dear Chapter Members and Friends, As I begin the board year as the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) President, Montgomery County Chapter, I am filled with anticipation and hope for a year of Giving Back to our Community. The Montgomery County Chapter has always been recognized as one that hosts top-notch programs for our members to learn, grow and network; knocks it out of the park with a yearly training and development forum; and hits a grand slam with charity drives. I m very excited to be joining this year s board members. The board is a mixture of those with many years of IPMA-HR experience and new members both to the board and to the IPMA-HR organization. What an amazing opportunity this gives us to share our past experiences and lessons learned with those who do not share those same experiences yet come with their own new ideas. Board members include: Gib Johnson, Jennifer Wood, Rhonda Edwards, Shekila Cole, Rodrigo Martinez, Viktoria Zelenak Berendt, Darla Hayes, Lynne Dupree Kartsakalis, Michael Moody, Kathryn Singhaus, and Lucy Wang. This year s theme of Giving Back to our Community will create hope for those in our community who can benefit from what our organization provides. By adopting those in need we are able to not only provide them with basic necessities, but we can also show them what our organization can provide through teaching and mentoring. We will continue our efforts to partner with local, state, and federal agencies to expand our membership. What a great way to incorporate new ways of doing business in the Human Resources arena! There are so many great ideas and lessons learned that we can be harnessing instead of reinventing the wheel. For those who are not familiar with the purpose of our local IPMA-HR chapter, our chapter goals are to (a) to sponsor forums, conferences and related educational programs in the field of human resources management and public administration; (b) to implement the objectives and programs of the IPMA-HR within the Chapter area; (c) to explain and interpret the objectives and methods of human resources management to the general public, civic groups, government officials and employees; and (d) to encourage and facilitate cooperative action among public jurisdictions and private employees within the Chapter area human resource matters of mutual concern. The next year will also bring the excitement of hosting the 2018 Eastern Region Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. What an amazing opportunity to show off what our great city of Baltimore has to offer! If you aren t already an IPMA-HR member, please consider joining! I am a Senior Associate with PwC Public Sector. I am chairing the Finance Committee for the 2018 Eastern Region Conference in Baltimore. I live in Downtown Frederick with Pippa (Dog) and Henry (cat), and I love being an aunit to my niece, Georgia. I am also an avid reader and attempt at being an avid runner. Rhonda Edwards: I am on the board of the International Public Management Association for HR, where I serve as the secre- tary for the calendar years. I am also a member of Women of CDER where I serve as the secretary for the Membership/Recruitment Committee. A fun fact about me is I love to play pool and bake treats for family and friends. Shekila Cole: I am this years treasurer. I plan to get involved in the 2018 IPMA-HR Eastern Region Conference and our new brand ambassador program Something unique about me is that I attended three different schools in three different countries during my high school year, Ivory Coast, Haiti, and the United States. Rodrigo Martinez I am the treasurer elect for next year s executive board. I am a full time employee and a part time student

MEET YOUR EXECUTIVE BOARD Viktoria Zelenak Berendt: Member at Large Darla Hayes: Member at Large Lynne Dupree Kartsakalis: Member at Large Michael Moody: I am a member-at-large with a two year team ( ) in the IPMA-MCC Executive Board. Currently, I serve as a Co-Chair in the Program Committee. In my downtime (when I get one) I love to cook, travel, spend quality time with friends and family, and of course taking naps. Kathryn Singhaus: I am a member-at-large for this years Executive Board. Currently, my roles are publicity for our chapter. I also serve as Publicity Committee Chair for IPMA s 2018 Eastern Region Conference. In my spare time I love to ride horses competitively, bake, attend concerts, and hang out with family/friends. Lucy Wang: I am passionate about giving back to the community and would like to become more active with IPMA-HR MCC Charity committee as well as serve as an active member in upcoming 2018 Eastern Region Conference. Something unique about me is that I like to train for and participate in high intensity obstacle races. I recently completed the Spartan Sprint, a 3+ miles course with about 23 obstacles. I'm working on getting a group of friends to do the next one, which is the Spartan Super. This one has about 25+ obstacles over 8+ miles. My ultimate goal is to be able to achieve the Spartan Trifecta, finishing all 3 of the Spartan races, Sprint, Super, and Beast (12+ miles, 30+ obstacles) in one calendar year! Enhance the image of human resource professionals by recognizing their contributions to the public service Foster fairness and equity by promoting application of merit principles and equal opportunity for all Encourage research and development in human resource management Promote communication and sharing of information among human resource professionals

5 PAGE 5 : VOLUME 1: ISSUE 1 CALLING ALL HANDS: HELP HURRICANE VICTIMS TODAY! IPMA-HR MCC wants to make a difference in not only our organization but by also giving back to our community. You can make a donation to the American Red Cross through the link provided to help people affected by Hurricane Harvey. Every dollar counts, so please show your support to the victims of Harvey. hurricane-harvey-relief-information.html 2018 CHARITY SPOTLIGHT! IPMA-HR MCC has decided to make a difference in our community this year through multiple charity projects. Our focus this year will be with Stepping Stones Shelter which is why we have decided to host a December Charity event (more details to come soon). Below is some information about the shelter and a variety of ways our chapter can assist their mission. Stepping Stones Mission: Provides a continuum of services emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing and post-shelter support) to homeless families with children in order to move the from crisis to a stable home environment How Can we make a Difference? Cook/Meal Provider: Provide a well-balanced meal for people drop off by 5:30 pm or sooner One-time meal donation or recurring Work with Career Counselors: Resume Writing/ Interview Skills Provide donations: Back to basics - paper towels, laundry detergent, welcome basket to new families, bathroom kit, clothes for success
