1 S P R I N G LLOYDMINSTER INTERVAL HOME In this issue Board Announcement Ceo Message Salute to Volunteers Social Enterprise Donations to 'For the Interval' Store Community Builders Moving LIH to a New Level On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to advise you that the recruitment for our new CEO has been completed, and it is a pleasure to announce that Angela Rooks-Trotzuk has accepted the position effective February 26, Angela joined the Lloydminster Interval Home in 2010 as the Assistant Executive Director, and was promoted to the position she most recently held, of Executive Director in Angela holds a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology with Distinction degree and is currently working towards completing the Master s Certificate in Organizational Leadership. We are extremely excited to continue working with Angela, in this elevated capacity, to take our dynamic leading-edge organization to the next level. We are confident in Angela s proven leadership of the organization, financial management, business development, and community relations. 2 CEO Message I am honored to be able to continue to lead this amazing organization into the next phase of our evolution. I am so proud to be alongside all our dedicated staff and volunteers working to empower children, youth, women and the communities we serve to see a life without violence and abuse as something they can not only aspire to but achieve. We do meaningful work every single day that makes a difference in the lives of the people we serve. As I embark on this new role, I am humbled by the opportunity before me. The Lloydminster Interval Home has evolved into leading edge and comprehensive human services agency with a Mission to provide safety, support and education by empowering the children, youth, adults and communities we serve. It is a very big yet rewarding responsibility to ensure that our organization continues in the way it began. Of course, without all the wonderful and generous individuals and organizations supporting us with their time, expertise, ideas and financial contributions we would not be able to do the work we do with individuals impacted by violence, abuse and homelessness. It has become more important than ever to ensure that our organization has the financial and human capital required for the vitally important responsibility of supporting others in crisis. This is a responsibility that I, nor any of our staff, volunteers and Board of Directors take lightly. I am very proud of our mission and would welcome communication with members of our community and region so I invite you to come visit, send an , or call us if you would like to learn more about LIH and LCYC or about how you can support us. 3 VOLUNTEERS! WE SALUTE YOU! BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING We asked our volunteers why they choose LIH to volunteer... To spend time with great people To help a great organization To get out of the house I know I am helping make a difference I have the freedom to come when I want to and stay as long as I want to "I had a tour of the store about 10 years ago and decided if I ever moved to Lloydminster, I would make an effort to help here. When we moved to the city, I did just that! I have a family member who experienced an abusive relationship. I think we all know someone, It was easy for me to choose to volunteer at 'For the Interval Store." Volunteer - 7 years OPPORTUNITIES Play Program activities Youth Programming at LCYC Board of Directors HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER? Call and set up a time to meet - a quick 10 minute chat and a form to fill out and you are well on your way! Attention Businesses and Groups: We have opportunities for you to help us as well! It was a bright spot in my day when I could go help put a little more fun into the children s time at Play Program. -Former Volunteer with Play Program THANK YOU!!! Our volunteers are dedicated, passionate, caring and so very valuable to our organization! Everything they do enriches what our organization is able to provide to those we serve. We will celebrate our volunteers throughout the month of April for Volunteer appreciation month!

4 SOCIAL ENTERPRISE 'FOR THE INTERVAL' STORE "Did you know? We do a complete seasonal stock change over every Spring and Fall is our organization's biggest fundraiser which supports programs, our transitional housing program and so much more We accept donations 7 days/week We have monthly silent auction for our most unique items Our New Manager: Tara joined the Society in November as the new Social Enterprise Manager of the For the Interval Store. After a decade in other parts of the world, she returned to Alberta to be closer to her extended family. She has an 18 month old daughter. She s a foodie at heart, so when she s not at the Store, she s working in her garden or caring for her bees. " What I found most amazing in my short time at the store is the sheer number of volunteer hours it takes to keep the store open. From serving customers at the till to stocking the shelves, our volunteers are the heart of Store operations. Without our volunteers, the store wouldn t exist! -Tara Lawrence, Social Enterprise Manager STORE STATS client start up kits 2,563 outfits free of charge 16,760 Volunteer hours recorded! What is in a start up kit? For clients and community members fleeing domestic violence or other life crisis and who are needing support with their new beginning, we provide a start up kit of essentials to help alleviate the daunting expense of some necessities. These are provided through donations received at our store. Clothing, kitchen items, small appliances, bedding, towels, furniture items, matresses and so much more. 6 Community Builders A LASTING LEGACY Long Term Partnerships This has been a long time coming, but we are excited to share that the new signage at the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre has arrived! Partnership with both Lloydminster Rotary Clubs deserves recognition for their long term funding support of the LCYC programs and the newly renovated facility located at Ave. Thank you for all of your contributions to support the youth we serve in our community! It continues to make an impact, and will for years to come! RYPEN The Rotary Club of Lloydminster and The Border City Rotary Club have generously sponsored 10 youth who are affiliated with LCYC and LIH organization. Without their support, an experience like this wouldn't be possible for these youth. RYPEN is a 4 day weekend experience in May at The Jasper Palisades Centre, where they will participate in activities and workshops focused on personal development.
