3 Qualities of a GOOD Riverside FFA Member 1. Approved Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) with completed recorded books (it will be for a grade). 2. Maintain good grades in agriculture class & have a strong work ethic. 3. Attend 95% of all regularly schedule chapter meetings & Committee Meetings 4. Attend Banquet. 5. Have FFA Dues paid by SEPTEMBER 1 st ($20.00). 6. All Fruit Sales money collected before Christmas Break. 7. Participate in various chapter, district, & state activities. 8. Be courteous, respectful, to all members and guest. 9. Promote the FFA and the local chapter positively 3

4 Riverside FFA Chapter Goals 1. To become a Top 25-rated Chapter in the State of Ohio. 2. To have 100% of all FFA members in attendance for monthly FFA Meetings and Activities. 3. To improve CDE awards & conduct no less than 2 practice sessions for each Career Development Event. 4. To have $27,000 in total Gross Sales in the Fruit, Peanut, and Smoked Turkey Sale. 5. Sell at least $500 by each person 6. Have More Member Involvement in activities. 7. Conduct at least 1 community service project a year. 8. To sell at least 100 worth of strawberry s by each Person. 9. Have at least 10 articles in the newspaper & have 4 monthly chapter newsletters. 10. To promote and have a successful plant sale/ chicken dinner sale. 4

5 There are 3 parts to a SUCCESSFUL Agriculture Education program, Classroom Instruction, - SAE, & FFA FFA The FFA is a REQUIRED part of the curriculum and the students will learn leadership skills and cooperation and have a chance to meet FFA members and develop leadership skills across the state. Activities include judging contests, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, and field trips both locally and to other points of interest such as Washington D.C. Leadership Conference, Colt Conference National FFA Convention to Indianapolis, Indiana, the State FFA Convention in Columbus, Ohio, FFA camp, Made for Excellence Conference, plus many more. The activities & events that FFA must participate in are: All FFA Meetings, the FFA Banquet and 1 FFA activities above the chapter level per semester FFA Meetings, FFA Contest, Activities, & FFA Banquet is for a grade. Students will need to participate in at least one contest or leadership activity a semester grading period. (this is separate from FFA meetings) Just like in sports, band, or anything else in life you get out what you put in. Nothing is just handed to you!! Without your input & participation the chapter will not succeed. Supervise Agriculture Experience (SAE) Each student is Required to have an SAE. SAE are projects that students must keep records of animal enterprise books, plant enterprise book, or job placement. Also students are required to have a home improvement project each year with a minimum of 30hrs. The purpose is to help students understand basic time management, responsibility, budgeting, cash flow, and shows the importance of record keeping. 5

8 Community Service General Purpose: To build and maintain relations between the FFA and the community that supports it. Goal 1). The Chapter will conduct activities to maintain and involve the FFA Alumni & young farmers. Ways and Means A). Assist the Alumni by organizing and helping to run the annual Golf Outing B). To support the alumni by helping at the FFA Alumni Brunch held at. C). Invite Alumni Members to serve as chaperones on field trips and other FFA activities D). Secure help in training FFA teams for contests 2). The chapter will conduct activities that will directly involve and benefit the Community. A). Participate in seasonal community activities. B). Coordinate activities to benefit the community within the FFA. C). Organize activities to benefit the youth in the community, like the Food For America Program and the Community Safety Program. D.) Promote & implement Conservation Practices 8

9 Recreation General Purpose: To provide members with the opportunity to interact with members of their own chapter, as well as members of other local, state and national chapters. Goal Ways and Means 1). Will provide the chapter with no less than three organized recreational activities that will allow all members a chance to interact. A). Basketball B). Canoeing C). Volleyball D). Trap /Sporting Clay Shoot E.) Bowling D.) Paint Ball 2). Chapter will participate in three activities above the chapter level. A). FFA Softball Tournament B). Trap Shoot Tournament C). 10 Public Relations General Purpose: To inform the public of FFA activities in the area, to encourage public support of the program, and to involve the community in the chapter s accomplishments. Goal 1). Chapter will conduct activities that will make the public aware of its activities in the area. Ways and Means A). Newspaper articles B). Monthly newsletter updates C). Contacting local radio stations during large projects (Food for America) 2). Chapter will encourage public support of the FFA Program. A). Set up Booth for Logan Co Fair B). Midmark Petting Zoo C). Blood Drives D). Other community service-type activities that the public will favor. 3). Chapter will continue to improve public support by participating in additional public relations activities. A). Entering projects for display at the Logan County Fair B). Making use of news media during activities. C). Publicize FFA Week activities. 10

11 Earnings and Savings General Purpose: To develop our financial standings through savings and investments. Goals Ways and Means 1). Chapter will earn money throughout the course of the year to support its activities. A). Sell fruit, peanuts and smoked turkeys in the fall. B.) Strawberry and peanut sale in spring C.) Plant sale in spring 2). Chapter will conduct activities that encourage savings and stimulate investments among members. A). Prepare annual budget with school treasure and FFA Advisor B). Maintain Treasurer s Book C). Encourage members to invest and save money earned during their SAE wisely. 3). Chapter will conduct activities concerning earnings, savings, and investments. A). Donate money or food to a local food pantry B). Donate money and/or food products To Crop, & Childrens Hospital. C). To provide a money-maker to support officer training sessions. 11

12 Conduct of Meetings General Purpose: To encourage members to take an active role in the monthly meetings conducted by the FFA, in order to keep all members better informed of the FFA and its annual activities. Goals Ways and Means 1). Chapter will conduct no less than three activities to aquaint members with agricultural careers, occupations, and opportunities. A). Members attend Farm Science Review & Power Show B). Keep magazine subscriptions up to date. C). Present 4 scholarship awards at annual Parent-Member Banquet D.) To promote FFA cookouts E.) To Host Harvest for America 2). Chapter will provide members with access to career opportunities by having various career clusters represented at monthly meetings and in the classroom. A). Invite college and university representatives into the classroom. B). Coordinate guest speakers to come and present the Chapter with new information concerning that particular career cluster 12

13 State and National General Purpose: To meet the challenges of state and national activities. Goals Ways and Means 1). Chapter will conduct three activities to increase membership and participation. A). Ag Day B). Activities scheduled for when 8 th grade prospects visit for a day. C). Inviting new members to annual summer cookout. 2). Chapter will improve contest participation by its members. A). Encourage members to actively participate in various career development events. B). Encourage Alumni members to help train various judging teams. C). Finance judging teams by coordinating with chapter Treasurer and Earnings and Savings Committee. 3). Chapter will coordinate activities during FFA Week. A). Teacher Appreciation Breakfast B). Tractor Day C). Guest Speaker for school assembly D). Ag Olympics during class E). Purchase promotional supplies F). Working with Public Relations Committee to create a newspaper supplement. 13

14 Executive General Purpose: To oversee all other committees; to see that members become good leaders who are able to assume leadership roles in future years; and to ensure the operations of the FFA program are carried out smoothly. Goals Ways and Means 1). Chapter will take part in training activities for its members. 2). Chapter will participate in at least three training activities for officers. A). Provide Parliamentary Procedure training for all members. B). Provide Public Speaking training for all its members. C). Encourage committees to achieve all established goals. D). Provide training in Sales and Customer Service through annual fruit sales. A). Leadership Conference in the fall B). Leadership Conference in the spring C). Officer training session in the summer D). Washington Leadership Conference and/or FFA Camp E). Officers should attend State FFA Convention 3). Chapter will continue to its reputation of leadership for high school students by providing additional leadership activities for its members. A). Encourage participation in National FFA Convention B). Participate in National Chapter Awards Program. C). Conduct Parent-Member FFA Banquet D). Demonstrate Parliamentary Procedure to civic organizations, school board, and other school clubs. 14

15 Banquet General Purpose: To plan, organize, coordinate, and implement the annual FFA Banquet in the spring. Goals Ways and Means 1). The members will be responsible for setting up and cleaning up the Banquet A). Assigning set up and clean up committees B). Overseeing all committees and participating in the efforts C). Staying until the process is completed 2). Organizing the Banquet Program A). Assigning each speaking part to members of the Junior Class B). Implementing the Year in Review Slide Show C). Deciding on Banquet Menu D). Decorations for the Banquet 3). Deciding on Guest Speaker for the Banquet A). Research, contact, and possibly interview the speaker 4). Administering the Banquet A). 16 Farm Committee General Purpose: To efficiently plan, plant, harvest, and market crops from the school farm. Goals Ways and Means. 1.) Students will completely plan the farming operation. A.) Students will plan pre-planting, as well as planting, and harvesting. B.) Students will provide all the labor they can make the farm a success 2.) Students will sell the school crop based on market. A.) Students will learn marketing strategies in class that will be to market crop. B.) Students will use forward contracts, options, and hedging to market crops. 3.) Students will use the most modern techniques to produce a quality crop. A.) Students will use GPS to more efficiently produce a crop. B.) Students will use strip cropping and strip tillage to help prevent erosion. C.) Students will learn to use no till practices to increase profits. D.) Promote & implement Conservation Practices 16
