2 Mad Science not in session Thursday, Nov. 1 Jumpstart 2:30-4:30 Halloween Festivities Pumpkin Carving Contest We will be having our annual pumpkin carving contest again this year. Students can bring their jack o'lanterns to the gym on the morning of October 31st. Prizes will be given out for best carving, best carving with a stencil and for showing MRT Spirit. Please make sure each jack o'lantern has your child's name on it as well as an LED tea light inside. Halloween Parade Students will be encouraged to wear costumes on Oct. 31. Please no weapons or scary masks. We will be having a costume parade in the gym at 10:30. All parents are welcome to attend. WE Scare Hunger Our leadership team is organizing WE Scare Hunger from now until Nov. 2. Please bring in nonperishable food for the food bank. We re especially interested in baby formula, canned meats and canned soup, but all donations are appreciated. The class that brings in the most number of donations will get an extra 15 minutes of recess. PAC News Next meeting will be held on October 30th at 6:45 pm in the school library. Every Parent at McLeod Traditional School is a member of the PAC (Parents' Advisory Council). You are all welcome to attend the monthly PAC meetings. 3 April 18, 2019 May 16, 2019 June 13, 2019 (PAC Election) PAC Uniform Check On Thursday, October 25th, the PAC conducted a random uniform check in each of our classrooms. They found a number of students who were not in proper uniform. Please be reminded that sweatpants, graduation hoodies, white shirts with no logos and black tights are not acceptable attire. If you need to order uniform clothing for your child, please see our website for information on both Bravo Apparel and A3H uniform company. District Halloween Initiative Dear Neighbour, Re: Safe Schools Halloween Initiative As you know, Halloween is approaching. I am writing to request whatever assistance you can provide to help us keep our schools and neighbourhood from being vandalized. In the last school year, the Surrey School District took close to $372, out of its budget (our taxes) to repair acts of vandalism. This money could have supported our students in many different ways. The Surrey School Board remains focused on reducing this expense. While we do our best to educate young people to convince them of the senselessness of vandalism, we are also looking for other ways to deter vandalism on our schools and in the area. One approach is to enlist our neighbours' help to watch for anyone "hanging around" our schools, particularly after dark on Halloween. For many years, the school district has organized patrols of district staff (including trustees) in which small groups take shifts of an hour or two to walk around the grounds of the school. This small effort does a great deal to deter youth from even approaching our schools. Please help us out by keeping your eyes and ears open to any activity at our schools and don't hesitate to notify us if you notice people milling about. If there is obvious, active vandalism taking place, please immediately notify police by calling We also welcome your call to a special Surrey School District phone number set-up for Halloween at to report any suspicious activity so a security patrol can be dispatched.

4 School vandalism affects our entire neighbourhood. Defaced walls or damaged property can be seen by everyone. News reports about such activity generate a public perception about our neighbourhood. Vandals allowed to congregate at a school typically spread their activities to neighbouring homes and vehicles. Vandals frequently choose to return and congregate where they have not encountered any deterrents in the past. Please join us as we demonstrate to vandals that they are not welcome at our schools, or in our neighbourhood! Thank you for your help. 7 School Cash Online Thanks to all the parents who have signed up for School Cash Online. Most parents have had no trouble signing up and making payments, but there are a few who have run into some difficulties. If you are having problems, please visit the office so we can help you. As well, just a reminder that there are several outstanding payments for school planners and field trips. Please pay for these as soon as possible. Return-it Recycling Program This is just a friendly reminder that families can take their recyclables directly to the Panorama Village Depot to help with MRT s fundraising efforts. It s easy to do, simply drop off your bag(s) and the money will be automatically credited to McLeod Road Traditional. Our customer # is E for reference.
