Vision Statement The Lupus Foundation of America envisions a world without lupus. The organization will advance the science and medicine of lupus to find a cure and improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus. 2

3 Dear Lupus Community, May was quite a year for the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana chapter. Our chapter has been on a growth trend for the past 3 years and things really came together in The year started with our annual strategic planning session in January where our board reiterated and rededicated themselves to our 3 foundational goals: 1. Increase and Diversify Revenue: The board recognizes that without sustainable financial support, we cannot fulfill our mission of lupus awareness, education and patient support. Our priority was focused on increasing and diversifying revenue. We increased our state wide fundraising efforts to cover geographic areas not previously reached; we increased corporate funding by acquiring two new corporate sponsors, Roche and Eli Lilly. We are continuing to work on increasing individual contributions by collecting information and strategies on individual giving and submission of appropriate grants. 2. Increase Public Awareness of Lupus and of the Foundation: Because we were able to increase our financial resources, we were able to expand our education programs. We created a network of volunteerspokespersons, without whom we could not advance our message. New volunteers were recruited and trained to help manage with our fundraising and education events. We hosted 3 very well attended Living with Lupus symposiums across the state as well as partnered with Minority Health coalition to foster Advanced Advocacy Programs. We hired a public relations firm, Pickett and Associates, to help us assess and maintain a year round public media campaign. 3. Capacity building across our organization: As we continue to grow, we judiciously added resources we needed. We added a part time volunteer coordinator, a part time grant writer and optimized our use of interns. The intern opportunity not only provided extra resources for the foundation but enabled the interns to acquire real life work experience. These individuals took part of the work from the rest of the staff therefore helping the office run smoother and giving the staff time to develop tools that helped us be more productive, such as dashboard reporting. In addition to achieving many of our strategic goals, we have other achievements to site. We have started a succession planning process to assure that when the time comes we will have a smooth transition for our staff and board. From a board perspective, we added board members who brought needed skills, such as legal and fundraising expertise. In fiscal 2013, we increased foundation net revenues by 9% and ended 2013 with rock solid net assets of $251,600, the highest in our history. During 2013, we increased our participation in the number of community forums, health fairs, and advisory councils.
