3 Programs Programs Description Long-Term Success *Referral and Information Services The Mental Health Association of Collier County assists individuals needing referrals to mental health services and/or other social services and provides information related to mental health issues. Each day MHACC receives 10 to 20 telephone calls and 2 to 7 drop-ins per day - people seeking help for themselves or loved ones. *Divorce Education The Mental Health Association of Collier County offers two education programs designed for families going through a divorce. Understanding the childrenss reactions to divorce and learning how to help them cope is the primary focus of both programs. Parents are encouraged to learn skills to effectively co-parent their children. Children are encouraged to share their feelings, and learn problem-solving skills in order to enhance adjustment to family changes. Classes are led by trained facilitators *One Child/Adult at a Time One Child at a Time, One Adult at a Time is a one-of-a-kind counseling program in Southwest Florida linking children and adults who are in need of mental health services and have no insurance or financial resources with mental health professionals who offer pro bono services *Speakers Bureau Brown Bag Luncheon Series/Speaker's Bureau consists of hour-long mental health workshops provided by MHACC members to local businesses and employers. Our mental health professionals address issues ranging from Cultural Diversity to Stress Management, helping employees strengthen communication skills, building successful working relationships and developing tools for conflict resolution. All materials are provided free of charge by the presenter. Multiple sessions can be scheduled to enhance the learning experience. *Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Teen Advisory Board, made up of 29 students from all Collier County high schools to identify problems and concerns, e. g. school violence, drugs and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy that students have in their lives. This board meets once a month during the school year to evaluate feedback from the student population. *Support Groups Anxiety, Depression, Bereavement and Gay/Lesbian Support Groups meet weekly and provide assistance to individuals suffering from conflicts in their lives. Some of our participants have been attending these support groups for more than ten years with positive results. These support groups are free of charge. *Publications The Guide to Mental Health Services is updated annually and provides for a quick reference guide to social services in the Collier County community. The Directory of Licensed Mental Health Professionals is updated annually and contains over 80 licensed mental health professionals. In addition, the directory has a list of other social service agencies in the community. Mental Health Matters, our quarterly newsletter, which keeps the community updated on important mental health issues and on what the Mental Health Association is doing. MHA wants people Southwest Florida to understand how to protect and improve their mental health and know when to seek help for themselves or someone close to them 2. Mha wants schools, businesses, healthcare systems and other settings in Southwest Florida to have the knowledge and re-sources to respond to respond to the mental health of their constituencies and achieve their missions 3. Mha wants everyone in Southwest Florida to have access to high quality, affordable and personalized preventive, early identification and treatment services, when and if the need arises 4. Mha wants persons with disabling mental illnesses to receive the support, treatment and services that they need to recover and live full lives in their communities. Strategies What are the major strategies you will do to accomplish your goals? 1.Educating the public about ways to preserve and strengthen its mental health 2. Fighting for access to effective care and an end to discrimination against people with mental and addictive disorders 3. Programs and services are assessed by survey, community feedback, website counts and testimonials. Monitoring program participation. Increase in individuals, groups, professional seeking information and help due to programs and education. Progress What have and haven t you accomplished so far? Programs: Maintain culturally sensitive/timely services Putting Children First: Keep fresh and ensure legal entities have updated forms. Schedule to meet community needs and cost effectiveness. Positive Aging: Hold presentations on positive aging, connect with senior living for partners presentations, work with the Senior Coalition to meet needs in the community. College Program: Continue to offer Stress and the College Student expand to all area colleges and universities. Work with schools/students on combined projects. Children s Program: Children s Mental Wellness Initiative Golle Gator Workshops promoting children s mental wellness to be held during the year. Collaboration of the arts and children, improv program. Continuing Education: Continue to offer CEU Presentations and partner with others for educational events. Veterans: Continue to hold Support Groups, research further programs and partner with other community members to fill the gaps. Workplace Wellness: Continue to market as benefit to business members/reinforce the value of the program, especially to small business owners. Directory: Make it the must have resource for the area. Increase professional listings to Lee County to have 4

5 a base source for referral. Moved to all digital format, reducing publishing costs and reaching a broader scope of the community. Use as tool for marketing and branding. Limited funding for mental health services especially in Florida which ranks 49th in mental health spending 5
